Alhambra School Of Music

Great location in the heart of Alhambra (on Main Street) with plenty of other shops around, and they have a variety of different music programs for both kids and adults. One cool thing also is if your child (or you) are getting started on an orchestra or band instrument they offer rentals for a very reasonable rate. It’s really hard to find a violin rental for only $ 15.00/month! I also like the fact that there are options for either group or private lessons available. Highly recommended!

Kids Singing Workshop– My two daughters were enrolled for this workshop and I never got to see what they were learning. The last day of class, the instructor did not show up. The sub was there and did not know anything about a recital or certificate of completion. I am really disappointed about this workshop and the instructor. I don’t expect my daughters to be singers after 10 weeks session, but at least show parents something that the kids learned. I wouldn’t recommend.

5 stars for voice instructor Candace Coles. Not only an extremely talented artist in her own right, she also supports and encourages her students to challenge themselves both in and outside of the studio.
Also, props to the front desk who keep things humming, including proactively calling to reschedule appointments.
They may specialize in teaching children, but I can confidently recommend adults take lessons here, too, as the rates are very reasonable.

Lessons for a great deal… all ages… polite and courteous staff… everyone is pleasant to look at aswell. Love it and definitely recommend this school

I was really disappointed to go into the studio for my lesson with Nadine to find a substitute. With a sub, you need to explain your goals again and your song. I wish I had a heads up because I had all my material with Nadine already. I could had been much more prepared.
Although the sub was extremely talented and knew her stuff, she didn’t know me as a singer and I felt like I was starting over again.
I told her my goals and the song we had been working on and althoughi was a little sick, I let her know I was able to sing a bit. but with this lesson, I did not get to sing at all. The instructor was recommending songs for me that were jazz and short but I’ve never heard of some and the instructor spent most of the lesson singing it to meand going over songs I knew nothing about.
I showed her the song I had chosen and worked on with Nadine and the sub stated it may be too much to sing for my purpose. But honestly, I’ve been working on this ong for weeks. So I was extremely upset that it was dismissed. I know the substitute was very qualified and she had an amazing voice. I know she’s talented and knows what she’s talking about… But I don’t know these jazz songs and it’s fine she recommended them, but it took the whole 30 min and I did not get o have my voice critique at all. The whole purpose for me in lessons is to have someone help me with my voice — pitch, technique, etc.
I emailed the director with my disappointment in the lesson. He recently called me to get my point of view of the lesson bc they never received a complaint before. I respect the fact he called me but I was also told of their policy that they have the most qualified subs — which I don’t contest at all at her abilities– she was impressive in singing. I loved her voice, but I’m paying for myself to improve. He told me next time I register for Nadine to put a note for them to call me if she was not going to be present. And I will next time.
I do enjoy this school mainly bc I am learning a lot from Nadine, but I do not like the fact I was not alerted for the change and my previous lesson.
I love Nadine’s lessons.

Great place to send your kids (or your adults! :) for lessons. Easy payment system and good choice of teachers who are both knowledgeable and skilled, patient and great working with kids. Prices are definitely reasonable. Nice facility in a good area with lots of stuff around — movie theater, grocery store, etc. so you can drop your child off and get some shopping in!
Also great because they have special workshops for adults and programs for the young ones, preschool age. Would definitely recommend.
Side note: One reviewer mentioned the hassle of the prepayment system. I understand how this could be frustrating, but the reason this is done is so the teachers get paid on time, don’t have people skipping out on lessons or payments, etc. It’s a more professional system, therefore brings in more professional teachers, and you get quality lessons. It’s like any other school — you pay ahead and have your class/​lesson scheduled for that day every week. You can’t expect to get your money back if you miss a class because you have something else to do. I’ve never had a problem rescheduling a lesson for another day, and they try to accommodate you as much as they can. Sorry the reviewer had a bad experience, but this hasn’t been my experience at all! I’ve chatted with a couple parents/​students in the waiting room and they’ve enjoyed their time here as well, so take that for what it’s worth.

Alhambra School of Music is great! They offer lessons for so many different instruments and the prices are reasonable. I have taken lessons at other schools in the past and have had problems with being taken off the schedule, prices increasing drastically, or teachers not showing up without a warning. This school has not given me any problems and even tries to accommodate me when I’m going to miss a lesson. Their waiting room actually has a t.v. and the rooms aren’t cramped or smelly which definitely matters when you’re inside a room for half an hour straight. The teachers all have experience there and you can tell they haven’t just been picked up off the street to teach. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for music lessons.
