On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina

Great place to eat. Really nice atmosphere where they play Mexican music and don’t water things down. Plenty of free chips and a large menu. Great service too.

What a joke. We were told that there would be a 20 minute wait, then sat there for 45 while we watched tables sit empty. When I asked the hostess what the deal was, she said, «we didn’t expect there to be a dinner rush.» At 6:30pm on a Wednesday. Also known to most as dinner time. Then we were told that there were still three tables ahead of us, and three call ins. Interesting considering that we’ve been staring at 6 empty tables. All the while, patrons getting fed up and filtering out of the restaurant in anger, also given poor excuses by the hostess. Thanks for nothing On The Border. Next time I’ll be happier hitting the local Taco Bell.

We have been back here on a couple occasions since my last review and the service has been much better.

Went to eat. Had to wait 20 minutes for a seat. Didn’t make sense because there was a whole section behind the hostess that wasn’t being filled.

Well im just gonna start by saying this place is the worst of the worst first of all my waitress Linlin took about 20 minutes to seat our small group and a lot of tables were open… 20 minutes!!! Once we were seated Linlin didnt serve us drinks and went to her friends table to serve them… When she finally came we were already to order food… i got a burrito and it seemed like it was gonna be good… After we got our food i noticed my burrito was cold but something was warm inside and when i opened it up to look at it i saw a steaming piece of poop in there!!! i promptly told Linlin about it and she said she did it! Linlin completly ruined my on the border experience…

Excellent service and great food. The cleaner side of Mexican food. do you ever have that feeling after eating mexican food, that if you don’t unsnap your pants or undo your belt you might burst. not after eating from this joint. Very good food! Chips and salsa are great and served to the table once you’re seated. This is one of my favorite mexican restaurant in town.

LOVE the mango margaritas!!! Bill is the bomb and they hired Patrick back! Excellent service!

I work in the food industry and I have to say I received some of the worst service of my life here. Hosts were rude and threw down the menus and walked away. Our waiter would disappear for nearly an hour, then after I walk across the restaurant to ask him where the margaritas we ordered were, he retorted that he’d been trying to get MY attention this whole time to ask what kind I wanted, (though we all ordered 3 watermelons). Our waters were hardly ever refilled and lemon/​ketchup requests were ignored. I have never written a Unilocal review before, but this was outrageous. Who hires these people?

Been back several times since my last post. They are doing a better job with take-​out orders.

The food here is always hot and delish! I love how accommodating they are vegetarians. Unlike a lot of other Mexican restaurants OTB actually cares and ensures my entrée is meat free! It’s the little things like that, that keep me coming back! Plus I love all the alcoholic beverages they offer. So many flavors and unique drinks to choose from. Last time I dined here my server was Renne and she did a great job and was super friendly even when the restaurant was packed!

Service was good. It was like eating at a Mexican Chillis. So corporate and the meat tasted so processed. You get your choice of guacamole or cheese with you fajitas? Prices were quite high for the amount you received and the level of quality. I will be going to authentic Mexican restaurants from now on.

I come here for the atmosphere during the summer… I love spring outside next top Randall Road and eating the chips while enjoying a cocktail. The food is good… for American Mexican and the staff is GREAT!
While there are much better choices for Mexican food… On the border does a good job is what they do…

Poor service and bad food.
We asked to be seated outside, the very nice hostess said she would ask the manager. It was 80 degrees and sunny but the manager arrived and said there was rain in the forecast. I just checked the forecast and there was a 30 percent chance per weather bug but every restaurant we passed to get to this one had customers outside.
My daughter and I went shopping together and it was her wish to sit outside. She is such a great kid I hated to have her disappointed but she was fine with sitting inside. I asked the manager to wait while I confirmed my daughter still wanted to stay and he rudely walked away from our conversation.
Someone else arrived shortly and they sat us where they wanted us to sit.
After a few minutes I had to go find the wait staff to order. My food was terrible, the retried beans had a horrible aftertaste. My daughter said the fries were terrific and offered one to me, it was horribly freezer burnt but I didn’t say anything. We had a good time together and just came home.
Nobody at this restaurant asked me how my meal was which is fine because I would have just lied and said it was good.
FYI– the table and menu was sticky and booth needed a good cleaning. Real leadership and management problem at this restaurant…

Very good for a chain restaurant. Staff is attentive. Prices are a little high but the food was made well and I can’t remember our waiters name but he made a great margarita suggestion when I couldn’t decide which one I wanted.

After getting treated lousy by a bad waitress at Moretti’s, my friend and I came here. We sat at the bar and got great service, a really delicious Mexican Martini and I even got a ‘bonus’ Mango Margarita because the bartender had made too much. That’s what you call Good Service. We will be back. Also the food was great, the Beef Briskit Tacos are fabulous. This time I had a Combo and all 3 items were delicious.

GREAT service, waitress was hilarious and very attentive. Clean and quiet atmosphere. Food was good and came out quick.

Had a good time. .Our server was awesome. .He brought us more chips and salsa before we ran out and did the same with the drinks. The ultimate fajitas were good and the portion was over kill. The chips and salsa was off the chain. .But my favorite was the Strawberry Mango Marghiritta. .OMG the flavor was on point..

The food was good, service poor. Waited on tortillas for our fajitas seemed like forever.

Set your expectations low enough and you won’t be disappointed. The service staff is generally underage and not old enough to even bring you your bar drinks. The food is just chain food, probably frozen in bags and tossed in the oven. Nothing special here. Overpriced crap poor service. .
Outdoor dining is basically on the mall parking lot.
