Bread & Chocolate

Went there today, and we tried the cherry chocolate tart to go. Very nice service from the young man at the register. Unfortunately the bottom layer was dry and the gelatin was sticky and bland. It was very pretty to look at but an overall disappointment. I will try the restaurant again hoping I just caught them on an off day.

This could be a really great place for cuppa in Alexandria, but it isn’t.
When you order hot tea, the expectation is that the tea will be, you know; hot. It should also taste like tea and not water that had been shown a picture of a tea bag. When you ask the waiter (who turned out to be some sort of manager) politely to correct this obvious deficiency, the waiter should fix the problem promptly and graciously.
They apparently have a different «policy» at Bread and Chocolate. Here, the waiter is rude, gets you another cup of tea grudgingly and then charges you for a second cup because that’s their «policy.» The «senior manager» (and I use the term only because of the irony in this case) then claims that he didn’t see what transpired between you and the waiter and washes his hands of it.
There are plenty of wonderful places to have coffee and pasties in Alexandria, and my advice is to go to one where the policy is to provide good quality tea and good service.

Stopped and had lunch. I had the ham and swiss crêpe and it was delicious. The honey mustard sauce served with it was perfect. A nice mix of spice and sweetness. Had a side of the fruit salad with Bavarian cream and it was awesome. The iced mocha latte was good as well. I can’t wait to go back.

I had a bite my friend’s Chocolate Croissant and it was pretty bad. Dry chocolate and non buttery croissant leaves us with, well, pretty much nothing. My tea was good, but how hard is that to prepare, right? I had a great time chilling here though but got confused occasionally because in the front was a cute café with a few tables but in the back was a… diner? Really?
Bought me a loaf of bread for the week for only 2 bucks! Mos definitely the best purchase from this place.

This is not the restaurant but rather the corporate offices, as the receptionist kindly informed me when I called to ask what time they stopped serving breakfast. A-​OK for being pleasant and helpful.
