The selection at Village Wools can’t be beat. They have pretty much everything and anything you can think related to the fiber arts. Not only do they carry knitting and crocheting items but they also carry spinning, weaving and felting items. The staff can be a little cool at times, the first few times I went in I was a little put off by them. Then I decided I didn’t care and went anyways. These days I prefer to be left alone as I peruse the yarns.

Is there such a thing as «yarn porn»? Every time I go into this store I spend hours running my fingers through the delicious fibers and fantasizing about how it would feel to have them slide across a smooth bamboo needle. It’s so bad that halfway through a trip I start itching for my knitting needles and it takes a great deal of restraint not to just sit down in the middle of the store and start casting on. They have every kind of yarn that you could possibly imagine: bamboo, cashmere, merino, alpaca, hemp, cotton, and yards and yards of good old fashioned lamb’s wool. They also carry every possible size of needle in existence, you want some no. 1 DPNs? Done. Don’t go into this place expecting to find anything with the words ‘super saver’ in the name — these are top end luxury products for people who take their projects seriously and would never think of making booties out of ‘baby-melting’ acrylic. The staff can be kind of aloof but they know their stuff and they’re always willing to help if you ask them. If you go on the right day you’ll even be greeted by the store’s white standard poodle — which looks so much like a lamb that it’s positively fitting of such a cool place. If you knit or crochet or weave or do anything with yarn I suggest that you check this place out, but be forewarned, they do not call themselves the«fiber addiction specialists» for nothing. You will go back for another hit, again and again.

Mixed review for me. The selection is *amazing* but the staff is definitely not friendly. My boyfriend and I were totally ignored; I don’t mind being left to my own devices and have no problem asking for help, but I do find it odd when I make eye contact with employees and they look right through me. I expect they’ve quite knowledgable but can’t say for sure as I wasn’t really inspired to go asking any questions.

I have been to this shop several times, and found that either 1) I am ignored and can’t find a single person willing to help me, OR I am treated terribly by rude employees. On one visit as I was walking through the shop looking at yarn I was yelled at to «get off my yarn» and looked down to see an employee completely unraveling a project in the middle of the aisle. Another time I asked for a certain weight of yarn and where it would be in the shop and a very rude employee started lecturing me on yarn weights and how stupid I was to rely on labels. I will try to NEVER shop at this store again. In this case 5 strikes and you are out!

This is a destination shop, and by that I mean, make a trip. A gorgeous yarn shop that features hundreds of different kinds of yarn, patterns, needles, bags, buttons, and STUFF! I can spend all day in this shop.
