I didn’t get a chance to try them, that blows! ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — What was thought to be a temporary closure at Nosh Jewish Deli is now considered permanent. Alisa Turtletaub-Young said a refrigeration breakdown forced her to halt operations at her Nob Hill delicatessen a few weeks ago. While she thought she might eventually reopen, the equipment hiccup instead prompted her to re-evaluate the situation and shut down for good. She cited ongoing health problems that have made it increasingly hard to run the business and said closing would allow her to better take care of herself. «As a single mom, I’ve got to take care of my health first and foremost so I can take care of my child and my life,» she told the Journal on Wednesday, noting that it was a «disheartening» situation. «It comes with a heavy heart that I have to do this.» Turtletaub-Young opened Nosh in the Nob Hill Shopping Center 2 ½ years ago, serving up the likes of lox, latkes and pastrami sandwiches. She said business had been«good» but acknowledged that she has encountered plenty of turbulence during her run. Nosh had been targeted by anti-Semitic graffiti and, she said, been burglarized twice. «It’s been a great ride, but it’s been a rough ride,» she said. Turtletaub-Young said she will continue doing some catering and manufacturing, churning out challah, matzo ball soup and some grain-free breads. She said some of her products are available now at Natural Grocers locations in Albuquerque.

Latkes latkes latkes! I wish I could say these are just like the ones my mom used to make back in NY, but she was a terrible cook!!! =p This is a place where nostalgia and flavor come together in all the right ways and if you aren’t familiar with east coast delis, go now and create some new memories!

I’ve eaten there a number of times now and won’t again any time soon. I have always found the staff pleasant and helpful(probably because I am polite and pleasant?). But the restaurant really need a better cook. The food is bland — and the potato salad is worse than bland. Everything is very fresh — it’s just pretty much tasteless(except for the pastrami). They are the only Jewish restaurant in NM. I hope SOMUCH that they succeed. But they really need a cook who knows what he/she is doing.

What a sweet little surprised to find this spot in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque(my old neighborhood). Walking in I was so upset that I had eaten breakfast. They offer an extensive selection of deli fare that smelled like the Brooklyn delis of my youth. I had an iced tea and babka. Yum! They found out that I use to live in the neighborhood and was leaving in a few hours to head back to Reno they gave me some free rugelach that was good not like mom’s but a good 2nd. Next time I’m in Albuquerque this is a must go to place. I want to try everything on the menu!

I was so genuinely excited to try this place but never got a chance. We walked in and stood for a few minutes, were given the once over by the young woman behind the counter who was chatting with a friend, I presume, and waited patiently to be greeted. She continued chatting while we stood and read the menu. Then we thought perhaps we were to seat ourselves. After giving it another five minutes with no acknowledgement, we got up to leave. It was as we were walking out that she called out after us and said, sorry! The entire experience was confusing for us and hurtful. Needless to say, I cannot in good faith support a business that does not value customers. I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.

Nosh is a hidden gem in Nob Hill located just behind The Co-Op and Gecko’s. They have breakfast and brunch. My favorite item on the menu has to be the Lox. The salmon and bagel are always fresh and the serving size is large. It is a privately owned little business and they really sticks to their roots when it comes to the menu. The kitchen has a huge window that they open so fresh air is always flowing. They have pastries for anyone with a sweet tooth and they also make Paleo cookies(hard to find) Parking is provided across the street or at a meter. If you are looking for some good, fresh food then this is the place to go.

This is one of the few places in ABQ that I’d go back to. The place was small but the staff was efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. The food was better than my bubbe’s or my mother’s. I am sure they will see this and become very angry about it but really, their latkes need work and Nosh’s doesn’t.

Delicious bagels for a good price, and the coffee is pretty good too! I also tried some of their house made granola, and it’s excellent. 10⁄10 would do again.

I can’t tell you how long I had been wanting to try Noodle Kugel. I bought all the ingredients to make it a home and I still never had time to make it. Walking into this eatery and seeing it on the eclectic menu of Jewish treats such as black & white cookies, bagels & lox & Matzo ball soup I just knew had to add it to my order along with the other items I was about to try. The kugel is packed with all sorts of deliciousness! I couldn’t have picked a better place to try it for the first time. I enjoyed it to the very last creamy flavorful bite. The creation being made reminiscent of a standard bread pudding –minus– the bread +add+ in egg noodles along side other simple ingredients like eggs, milk & spices, baked casserole style then each serving is individually deep-fried adding the perfect amount of crunchiness on its outer shell while topped with orange infused butter and powered sugar and still yet. drizzled in maple syrup Well done indeed! I also tried an order of bagel & lox and a coconut cream pie. I suspected all would be highly favorable and my instincts were correct! Give them a try… you will not be disappointed!

Loved the food. Excellent coffee. Cute décor. Would honestly give 5 stars but the AC was non existent and the ventilation in this place was pretty poor. In here now and I’m feeling for the staff, I really am. Hardcore summer heat in Abq and you need a hardcore cooling system to match!

Fantastic, friendly service with delicious breakfast, sandwiches, and my absolute favorite: the carrot cake! They serve Iconik(a Santa Fe company) coffee that goes so well with dessert. I highly recommend the challah french toast. I read some bad reviews and I think you need to cut them some slack for their first year-that’s how it is at any place usually. But in May of 2015 I can tell you their operation runs quite smoothly.

Excellent food all around but the dessert baked goods were beyond delicious. I had the Tempeh Reuben and the wife had the Tuna Salad sandwich. The breads, meats, veggies, were all very fresh and high quality. We also had the bombalinsky which I highly recommend trying. What a nice treat we have in Nob Hill! Be prepared to pay for such high quality.

First visit and we will be back. I ordered the Pastrami Reuben with Potato Salad and it was yummy! The sandwich was toasted perfectly and was dripping with sauce which is totally the correct way to make a Reuben. The potato salad was one of the best I’ve ever ate. Even the pickle was deliciously crisp and tasty. My hubby ate the Matzo Ball Soup and it was indeed a meal in a bowl. Full of fresh herbs and 2 huge balls! I do agree with other reviewers, the menu is a bit high for the sandwiches but the bowl of soup was a fair price. I can’t wait to bring friends and family here!

It would seem the bad reviews for Nosh are from people who don’t get Jewish style food. I knew right away as I walked in it would be good. I had the obligatory bagel and lox platter. Being that the bagels are from Long Island, it was all for the better. Quality ingredients made for a good sandwich, the homemade pickle was good as was the potato salad, but something seemed to missing in the potato salad, but good none the less. Don’t go anywhere else if you want this type of food… Soon to be legendary in Albuquerque, God knows ABQ needs this place!

As a Jew, I find it hard to find a decent bagel anywhere in the state. But here, the bagels(and the bialys!) are pretty darn good. I’m addicted to the lox, which are nice and rich and not overly salty, and the cream cheese that’s actually creamy and not pasty(I’m looking at you, Philadelphia tub). The veggie hash is another great choice, and I’d like to give a special shout out to the rye bread, which tastes like it came from New York, and the pickles. The coffee here is just ok, and it can get a bit crowded and service a bit slow. And it can be a little pricey. But whenever I need my Jew food fix, this place can’t be beat.

Bland! We were very disappointed with this place. There is no reason to have such bland and greasy food. The poor bread couldn’t hold up to all of the aioli and the grease drippings from the meat. The potato salad was really bland and seemed to be flavored with olive oil.

I learned about this place from my sister-in-law, who came in one morning shortly after the place opened. «Don’t get me wrong, the food was fabulous, but the best part about that experience? The tables were filled with Jewish ladies. All kinds of them. And I kid you not: they were holding hands and weeping. Tears of joy. Because for the first time in the history of Albuquerque, they now had somewhere to eat that wasn’t the JCC. I’m telling you, Howie, it was incredible to witness.» I’m certainly no expert on this fare. My family gave a seasonal nod to our Jewish heritage(one grandparent) by cooking up matzo ball soup and hiding the crackers for Passover, but that’s as involved as we ever were. We spun a few dreidels. I’ll leave it to the Devoted to validate whether the dishes here have street cred; for my part, the soup absolutely smoked the bland efforts of grandma. For $ 10.75 you can get a fat bowl of the stuff and half a sandwich(I chose pastrami: delish, thick, crazy salty, fatty, ungh…), which will absolutely fill you up. The matzo was hearty(can I say that?), with plenty of stringy chicken, noodles and carrot. I’ve also tried the Club, very good, but I prefer the soup/sammich combo. I know the purists aren’t interested in this note, but I wish they had green chile as an available addition. Chile goes so well with ethnic eats and matzo ball soup is no exception. What puts this place over-the-top for me are the baked goods. Admittedly, I’ve only noshed one, the chocolate babka, but it was so unbelievably dense and tasty that I returned to get another slice for my wife. That’s when I peered through the bakery cases and found goodies that will give neighboring Flying Star a run for their money: huge bagels, challah, black & white cookies, a 7 layer cake that cannot be comprehended, key lime pie, NY cheesecake, the list goes on. Also, if you know anything about my reviews, you know I look for places with personality. Like your favorite Jewish grandmother, this place has plenty to talk about, and it’s a breath of truly fresh air in the Duke City. From the photos of famous celebs on the walls to the smart, funny quotes on the shirts, this place has chutzpah. Here’s a big, warm hug for my main mensch, Nosh.
