I saw the great reviews an decided to go in. I was expecting Hawaiian as the name implies. I have been to Hawaii and they offer sweetened condensed milk, sweet bean paste and even ice cream in their snow cones. All this place offers is a plane old ordinary snow cone. All the flavored are just restaurant supply syrups, no doubt high fructose corn syrup sweetening. They try to get creative naming flavor combinations but in the end it is just a mix of the same old stuff. New Orleans has snowballs that have great ingredients and so does Hawaii. I personally could do with out the bean paste but they are interesting and very good. This place reminds me of the guy who drove the old milk truck through the neighborhood music blasting to call the kids. If that is all you want great you’ll love this place but, if your pallet has developed since the age of 10 you might be left a bit wanting

We love, love, LOVE this place! The staff is always so friendly and it’s inexpensive enough(shave ice starts at only $ 1) that you can go every day. Add a scoop of coconut ice cream to the bottom of your shave ice(real chunks of coconut!) and get the Sunset flavor, then drive up the street to Washington to walk around all the beautiful homes while eating your yummy shave ice.

Every time I come here, I usually forget to check into Unilocal. That is because I look forward to the yummy cold treat; moreover, the owner and I get talking a lot, and before I know it, my shave ice is done; I’m a content customer driving down the street onto my next errand. Then it isn’t until later where I realize I forgot to check in. That’s okay. I’ll take a picture of my loyalty cards to show you how many items I have purchased here. My usual order to get is a small shave ice with cream. Like clockwork, the owner knows that my older daughter will get a lime one with cream. My younger gal usually choses a different flavor and combination during each visit. Last time she ordered a Frog In The Blender(lime with cherry) with cream. As a really sweet super treat, when I definitely earned a cold one, I will add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to all of our orders. My children know this is really a nice thing, and I get those huge smiles that only the cold can bring. I have also on occasion ordered the food. I like the nachos; there is nothing special about them, but they are served by a special person, so that counts for everything out of the ordinary. I also really like the hot dogs at DaKine. You have to try one, or two, or a few. The owner [right now her name slips my mind] is super. She makes this locally owned jewel sparkle and shine. I love her laugh and smile. She is really a great person. I admire her. Visit her, so you can see her smile from her heart. If I could, I would give this place ten stars(and then some). Bravo DaKine Ice! You brought Hawaii to a desert that needs all the love and ice it can get!

Dude. Best shave ice in town, hands down! I’ve never been to Hawaii so I can’t speak to the level of authenticity, but I can tell you… On a hot summer’s day, NOTHING beats a sweet treat from here! Try some cream in your ice– it is uhmayzing! They have snacks as well, and are starting to have Hawaiian style food. It’s one of Albuquerque’s best kept secrets– give them a try!

Seems my daughter and I go about 3 – 4 times a week. Service is always friendly and we love the chairs outside. Use the punch card to get free shaved ice.

There are few things in life that make me as happy as Hawaiian shave ice. It’s like being a kid again, in the best way. It reminds me of my first trip to the islands, and makes me all giggly and happy inside. When I learned that ABQ had a shave ice store, I was giddy to my very core.(HEY — that rhymed!!!) We RUSHED down to get a taste as quick as we could — I was squirmy in the car the whole way there! I ran in to see what they had, not sure if it would be just some lame three flavor outfit, and then — AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!(Cue heavenly music here) Two surfboards full of flavor options! WOW!!! I ADORE this place! Not only that, but they also sell Hawaiian Host chocolates! And a bunch of other stuff from the islands — it’s like a mini(VERY mini) ABC store!(If you’ve spent any time on the islands, you know what that means…) We have been back a bunch of times, and will go back again and again.(With our frequent customer card!!!) Shave ice ROCKS!!! The only thing that could make it better is if they had more sugar-free flavors — shave ice gets a little calorie heavy with all that sugary syrup, and I could eat it a LOT more often if they had more sugar-free stuff. Especially grape! Grape is the best flavor EVER for shave ice! Okay, I admit it — Hello, my name is Kendall and I have a grape shave ice problem… Some day I will actually try other awesome sounding flavors. I guess. Maybe. Or maybe not — grape is just THEBEST!!! Anyway — go to DaKine and keep them in business — they are fantastic and you will love them, too! Mahalo!!!
