I happened to come here on a trivia night, which is totally cool but I was eyed down by everyone in the bar and even the workers… it was weird. Anyways I continued to the front and ordered a beer, and the bartender was really short with me. So at this point I reallt just didn’t feel like I was supposed to be there. We went out to the patio to get a $ 2 taco, which was provided by people unaffiliated with the brewery, if you can call it that. Albuquerque does this thing where they find a warehouse for sale, and the. just slap«brewery» on a sign and throw some stools in there. Thats exactly what this place felt like. Trivia night was good for the rest of the 30 – 40 year olds there at the time though, I’m sure. I won’t be returning. Get your stuff together, get a better set up for your food vendors if you arent going to provide food yourself. There are TONS of breweries in Albuquerque, I recommend looking elsewhere for your night on the town

All the brews are good but dr stranglehops was delicious. Tacos Tuesday makes it a great place to relax and eat and drink. Waitresses were very prompt and attentive. The double barrel porter was also a lucky find.

These folks are new to the scene, but the beers show a refinement that speaks of experience. The offer a solid line up that will have you trying them all. The vibe is funky industrial and it fits well with the downtown scene. It also has a great little outdoor area to chill in.

I have been hearing rumors of this brewery and how amazing it is. Well as said by Billy Bob in varsity blues: «I give it a ten.» Not only are the beers smooth but the bartenders are even more smooth, the pours are so incredibly sexy they will get you real hot and bothered. Don’t get me started on the one they call«The Cobra,» his pours are mean, he is lean and he’s a sex… With that being said come out to Boese and experience the best of the south west… or maybe of the world.

Great brewery in downtown ABQ. They have 6 beers on tap that all have a story. I love the Porter, my favorite of the bunch. Cozy and comfortable atmosphere for drinking a nice beer made on location. The Boese Brothers brew all the beer in the back of the brewery, ask for a quick tour. They have a long bar, plenty of seating and a side patio with tables. If you want something to eat, they have a food menu on the table for Gold Street Café a few blocks down. Call in your order and they will bike it down to the brewery for you. We recently had a Brewery event with customers and they were so accommodating to us. We used the back room for our presentation, brought in our own customer tasting mats for all of their beers and order apps from Gold Street. Give them a call for a networking function or event. Must see in downtown ABQ.

I went to this brewpub on one of the worst nights I could possibly have picked. I was doing a cleanse so I could not drink or eat. But that was the night everybody planned to go so I went. Nevertheless I thought it was a great place. My friends all seemed to enjoy it starting with the flights and then choosing their favorites. The food looked delicious! And smelled delicious! The food came from the neighboring Gold St. Café. The ambience is very nice and conducive to good conversation. I of course plan to come back under better circumstances so I can enjoy the beer and food also

At the end of the day, this place is the shit. These guys got it going on and they got the hot chicks to prove it. Beyond that, the beer is the best in town, hands down. I’m pretty sure they are the only brewery that is humble enough to name a beer after the great city we live in, the Duke City Lager. The service is impeccable and the ambiance of the taproom is second to none. I was actually in there the other day and I saw Burt Reynolds take home a whole bachelorette party, just based off the ‘vibe of the building’. You want to drink that Boese Bros beer again? «Aw yea, again and again!» — Wu Tang Clan

Updating my review because I’ve been back many times since August and feel they deserve more than 3 stars! Some great improvements have been made since opening night. For one, they definitely took the criticism about the noise level to heart and improved the acoustics. I really like the mellow vibe of Boese and that you can have a beer and play foosball with friends, read or work on your laptop. You’ll find all types here! Also I like that the bartenders made an effort to get to know my name, that personal touch means a lot. Plus their happy hour and growler prices can’t be beat!

The beer here is pretty good. And… The glasses are really clean. I had about three beers and got some dies with chile, cheese and bacon from Gold Street Café takeout service. The beer is very decently priced and they are making pretty good brews for being new. I would say check it out if you’re wanting a mellow environment away from the main strip of Abq downtown.

Downtowner here supporting Downtown businesses… I think the beer is good, refreshing, and cold. While I can understand why it’s loud on the inside(voices) I CANNOT understand why in the middle of the day they play OBSCENE Rap type music LOUDLY on the outdoor patio. I’m no prude by any means but I find it offensive and I’m sure passerbys would too. It sends the wrong message about the«type» of business this is… in my opinion.

The beer is lovely, and the staff is very friendly. The white beer was definitely my favorite, light and refreshing. It’s a nice place for an office happy hour, with plenty of room for a good sized group. Once they increase the beer selection, and maybe get some happy hour music going, I think it’ll be a five star kind of place.

Great location and I love what they did with old garage. The Scottish Ale is fantastic, and the Gold Street Café menu is diverse, affordable, and the food is delivered via bike or skateboard. I only give this three stars for service. Sometimes the server/bartender is on top of it, but at least three times there has been an employee that comes around to pick up glasses and ask if everything is alright, but when you ask a question or order another beer, they go back behind the bar and don’t relay the message. I mean… nothing. It’s like you just made a request that disappeared straight into thin air. There’s also not a lot of smiles, and once someone seemed really ticked that our guest, who was visiting for the first time, needed a couple more minutes to order. The owners seem to be working really hard, and they are doing a great job on the beer. I just worry, with all the craft beer competition in ABQ, and some really great staffs, that a few not-so-helpful/bummed employees could put this place in jeopardy. That being said, I’m still going back for a happy hour Scottish Ale(or maybe the new Imperial Pumpkin Ale) and some shuffleboard. Cheers!

Had a guest from out of town who wanted to check out a microbrew and knew the place had recently opened and suggested it. I have to say it’s a fun place. Now I’m not a big beer person but have to say I found the beer to be good and they may just convert me to drinking beer.

Two stars for potential only. So this place could be cool, but it needs some serious attention. My first problem relates to the service. I’ve been there twice now and the first time I went, it was their first(maaaybe second) week open. There were about eight customers and I counted five staff members. I sat at a table which had a menu, thinking that the menu combined with the number of servers indicated I could order at my table, and this rather rude blonde waitress came by and said something like, «We’re promoting bar service here so we aren’t serving tables but I *guess* since you just sat down and I’m talking to you I’ll just take your order but the next one you have to go get at the bar.» Ummm… Then I told her I still needed to pick and she said she would come right back. Then she proceeded to prance all around at the establishment, not being that busy given the practical 1:1 server to customer ratio, looked directly at me several times, and never took my order. This went on for ten minutes and finally I ordered at the bar. Oh, she was real nice when I went to pay though – surprise! The second time I went in I saw that same waitress handle herself fairly poorly, but I made other observations about the place. Namely, that it is too damn loud and too damn bright; the place just has no ambiance. I went in with a fairly large crowd, maybe 15, and I think everyone felt about the same way. The interior is just hard and not cozy, and has tile floors, brick walls, enormous ceilings, and some giant slab of rock for the bar which makes it very very loud. The place would do well with strategic carpeting and some sound barriers hung from the ceiling and bottom sides of tables so that a five person conversation doesn’t cause the same cacophony as a marching band. Also, it was bright as heaven in there. It felt like being in a grade school cafeteria. The space has these enormous windows which are great, but they need shades drawn during the day in order to get the right kind of vibe. The place doesn’t need to be pitch black but this is just too much. Also, the seating really sucked. Our large group was trying to sit together and the space was filled with a bunch of two-person circular tables which did not accommodate re-configuring to different shapes to accommodate even a modest group of 5 – 6. Common sense, folks: square tables. Beer: drinkable. TLDR; terrible atmosphere, could be awesome with a few mods, not the worst beer.

Cool atmosphere. Pretty good brews. Not a wide variety but none I would turn down. The steampunk lager is awesome and so is the Scotch ale. Small establishment so it fills up fast. Parking is horrible but that is normal for downtown.

Let me start off by saying that this place has heaping helpings of potential! They have a great little spot in downtown,(northwest corner of 6th& Gold) friendly staff, and games(an arcade game and a shuffle board!). They have a limited selection of beers right now, which is to be expected since they’re so new. One thing that caught me off guard was that they do not serve flights. I’m hoping this will change in the near future. Another not so great thing here is the acoustics. I saw that a few other reviewers mentioned this and I thought it couldn’t be that bad… It is. I went on Monday in the late afternoon(just in time for happy hour). There were maybe 10 – 15 people in the building and I had a very difficult time hearing my friend who was sitting right next to me. It’s like when you get a new house and there’s nothing in there, so much echoing! So, two downsides: no flights and it’s hard to hear. However, these are both pretty easy fixes, and from there they can really do well. UPDATE: They have flights now!

No flights. whaaat? That’s okay. The XPA is great… bitter…potent…tasty. The room is great, wide open, nice bar, comfy bar seats. No kitchen, but they have a menu for Gold Street Café who delivers to the bar. This place is pretty A-Okay in my book. I’ll give it another go for sure.

My friend knows some of the guys who opened Boese so he invited us to happy hour. Keep in mind that they have been open for only one week so take everything I say with a grain of salt. On that note, they have potential… They just have to realize it! The most important thing is, obviously, the beer. On that front I was petty impressed. Between me and my wife, we tried 4 of their of 5. All were good. I liked the XPA(think IPA) and the wheat. The Scottish ale was good but seemed very off style. Where they really need improvement is the atmosphere. First of all, they desperately need some sound dampening for the tap room. It was so loud and echoey. It would also behoove them to get more chairs. Again, it’s not without potential, but the place felt like a cafeteria. I largely base my ratings on my desire to return. If they had been open for a long time, I’d give a lower rating. But for a place working out the kinks, I’d go back. Maybe even soon(ish) so they get 4⁄5 for now. I’ll reevaluate at my next visit.

Trying out Boese Bros. Brewing for the first time. They’ve been open for a week so I’ll revisit the review in a few months. First, it’s a brewery: so how about the beer?! I had the La Onza White Ale(5.4% ABV). it was light and fluffy with just enough head, balanced, and I guesstimate about 25 IBUs(just a guess). Overall, a great crisp/tarty white ale. $ 4 Other beers on offer: Patriot Porter(6% ABV) Old Shonie Scottish Ale(4.5% ABV)…My buddy really digs this one Dr. Strangehop XPA(6.5% ABV) Steampunk Lager – a seasonal(5%ABV) They also offer up a cider and wine of the blended red and white variety. Food: they have an abbreviated menu from Gold Street Caffe(three blocks away) that delivers right to your table. That said, you’ll have to order from outside… Which is less noisy than inside(even in Downtown ABQ!) I tried the Mole Chicken Tacos($ 6) which came in a pair. They were pretty good, though my buddy had a reaction to them and had to bail :( Ms. Pac-Man full cabinet… Yes! Environment: Way too loud-acousticly speaking. You can hardly here the person right in front of you. Loud rumble of everyone talking and having to shout over each other. Flat walls, ceiling, and tile floors with nothing breaking it up; So a large reverb chamber. They could fix this by hanging acoustic panels from the ceiling(like nearby Sister Bar) and placing drapes on the windows. The floor is open and tiled, with about 8 four-top tables and a small Shuffleboard table. It is surrounded on the periphery by 2 booths for two and another 5 four-person booths. Rounding it out is a bar that seats about 10 folks. Theme: This one is hard to nail down… they have a big 48-star American flag on the wall, tons of Edison hipster lightbulbs free-hanging, beautiful brick walls and ~100 year old transom-like windows. Also the aforementioned Ms. Pac-Man. When I was there, the crowd was mixed: older, younger, fitness nuts, fatasses, so nobody left out. There were quite a few folks from the local Air Force base. The music playing when I walked in was Van-Halen’s ‘Jump!’ taking us back to 80s hair metal… So yeah, make of it what you will. Overall, not bad; though due to the exceptionally loud noise level(acoustics, not music)…I’ll probably wait a while before returning in hopes they get sound to a manageable level.
