After getting dumped by my girlfriend around January while recuperating from my quadriceps tendon rupture, I’ve decided to sign up at this gym so I could channel my anger in a positive direction. Best decision I made thus far this year. In spite of my injury, I’ve been motivated and just now starting to see positive results. This gym has been around for a long time now. It’s very big with plenty of amenities and exercise equipment. The equipment to me seems to be maintained well. In the event that a particular exercise machine is out of order, maintenance will place a work order and expected due date that the machine will be operating properly again. As far as treadmills are concerned, this gym has a variety of brands. Plenty of treadmills to go about using so wait times are never really much of a concern except during peak hours. Due to the extent of my injury, I’m not capable of running anymore so I now primarily use the stationary bike and elliptical for my cardiovascular needs. The bikes are good, but unfortunately all of the ellipticals are of the Precor brand. I wish that this gym had the Life Fitness brand as well. I prefer Life Fitness ellipticals because it has better hand placement in relation to my body. Obviously I can’t speak on the women’s locker room, but the men’s is generally clean. Through the locker room you can access the sauna, steam room, and a little whirlpool area. The sauna and steam rooms are a little small but still sufficient. There used to be a pool access but they have now closed it down for good in favor of additional exercising space(which I feel is unnecessary). This is a good gym. At only $ 30.00 per month(not including tanning) you’ll get your money’s worth. The only thing that I don’t really like about this gym are the rather inconsistent and confusing hours. Mon-Thu it is open from 4:30 a.m.-11:00 p.m., Fridays: 4:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Saturdays: 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., and Sundays from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Now get your butt off of that couch and start lifting :)

The only reason I am giving this place two stars instead of one is because they have a pool and that is something that you wont find in many locally-owned gyms in general, so at least they are trying… that is, if having a pool indicates you are trying. I drove around to area gyms during my lunch breaks to find the right one for me. Many folks recommended I check out Tony’s gym and told me it was the best. After looking at Anytime Fitness, and seeing their brand new equipment, I drove over to Tony’s Westside Athletic Club & Personal Training. I wanted to see what all the hype was about and see why their commercial says that the gym is «more safer» lol. The receptionist reluctantly provided me a tour of the property after I asked for one. I’m sorry but handing someone a rate sheet is not marketing. I asked how old the machines were because from a distance, seeing the equipment reminded me of my high school’s old football training gym. I got a snobby look and a reply«he updates the equipment about once a year». My tour consisted of walking down the hallway between the bathrooms and the equipment room, a point to the free weights area to know where it was located and«did you want to see the pool too?» with a «are you going to make me show it to you glance». I got a brief view of the pool. Everything about the gym looked trashy, run-down, unmaintained. The desk area looked like plywood slapped around a few old cabinets, the machines were all different colors and uncoordinated, surrounded by floor to ceiling mirrors that havent seen a windex bottle in some time. The pool water was foggy, the floor of the pool looked dirty to me. The cushions on many of the machines had holes in them. I didnt get a good look at the free weights room but it didn’t look much better. The receptionists lackadaisical attitude mixed with the scene of a 1980’s high school gym having exploded all around me just didnt motivate me to get a good look at it. Also, for what its worth, the menz in the gym looked pretty ratchet :(- might have been a bad time of day, but then again the menz on their website photos also look pretty scary. The outside of the gym looks really nice though. I guess you get what you pay for with $ 20 a month.
