Dean Asami Pro Shop

My wife and I decided to start bowling again after a number of years away from the sport and we wanted to get new bowling balls and shoes. We are relatively new to the area and didn’t know the location of any pro shops.
Then we came upon Deans shop. He made us feel at home and was very helpful with picking a ball and shoes for each of us. He also didn’t try to push any add on equipment even though I asked about it. He recommended just trying the ball and shoes then deciding on any extras if we felt we needed them. He seems very experienced and knowledgeable about all aspects of bowling and truly seems to enjoy helping customers.
When we first went in to select our equipment there was a nice couple there who were friends of Deans and they were also very friendly and helpful. All and all a nice atmosphere.

If you’re into bowling then you need a place to meet your equipment needs. From buying new equipment, to modifying existing equipment, Dean Asami is the man to visit. I needed someone I could visit and talk to about what I have, what I wanted, and how I planned to bowl.
I visited several shops in the area and just didn’t get that feeling that I was being listened to. I’m not technical enough to know my PAP, PSA, and all of the other bowling jargon associated with drilling layouts. When I spoke to Dean and told him what I wanted he immediately knew what to do.
I’ve owned several balls in the past, all drilled by different people. The ball Dean drilled for me feels so much more comfortable in my hand than any of my other equipment. It’s the only ball I want to throw now. My previous equipment hurt my fingers, mainly my thumb. Other shops said it was fine, but Dean made some adjustments and I am throwing the ball better than ever because it’s comfortable.
Besides knowing the technical side of things, Dean is also a very friendly and personable guy. He happily discussed a variety of topics and was overall very pleasant. I’ve gone back several times for all of my equipment needs and I am always pleased with the results.
It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner bowler looking to buy your first ball, or an avid bowler that has specific needs in mind, Dean is the man to visit. You will not find a better pro shop in the Bay Area.

A lot people hand out easy 4 and 5 star Unilocal reviews. Just so you know, I don’t. Dean earned it.
I’ve been to several pro shops looking to buy a ball and even bought a ball somewhere else (that I was not happy with) before talking to Dean. I’ve since bought one from him and it’s just what I asked for. I love it. I wanted hook and I got it.
He understands custom drilling layouts, balance holes, and he can drill at angles. The man knows what he is doing. Some other pro shop people do not.
He also doesn’t play the pro shop game of trying to walk you through purchasing several balls while you learn to bowl. The way that works is they talk you down to a lower level ball knowing you’ll be back in a year to get the one you wanted originally… the rational being ‘its above your level’. I’ve never bought it and when I asked Dean if there was a reason for me to not buy a pro level ball (that I wanted) even though I’m only a moderate level player, he replied ‘just price’. So, I bought the high end ball I wanted and it’s great.
[You maybe should use two levels of balls to learn to bowl. Starter should be drilled to go straight, so you can learn to aim, and then another with the potential to hook… thing is other shops try to draw this out to 3 or 4 levels…]

I’ve been bowling for awhile now (purely for fun)…i’m not really any good tho, but finally decided to get my own ball so that I could be more consistent.
I bought my bowling ball from Dean. His shop is always full — a good sign that poeple like him! He’s a great guy and knows his bowling! He taught me a couple techniques and they seem to work (when i remember to use them :)) If i ever need any additional bowling gear, I’m coming to him!

Dean is the Man. Just a good dude who is tells you whats up. I’m so glad he is on Unilocal so i can give him the 5 stars he deserves. If you buy bowling supplies, look no further

I bought a ball and got it drilled by my friends uncle (Dean Asami). After bowling with it the first time I asked myself why I got it drilled by Dean, but after a few games I got used to the ball and have been throwing 150+ average with the ball.
