I’ve eaten barbecue from Texarkana to the border of Mexico. I can absolutely say with 100% certainty that this is the worst barbecue that I have ever had in Texas. The Brisket was tough, flavor was nowhere to be found, the sides looked bad in the warmer while the flies were buzzing in and out of the holding area. And it was recommended to me from a bartender at a bar. I went back to her and had to ask her if she had taste buds?!

Customer service is subpar to say the least. The food is average at best. Brisket is decent, fajita is consistently dry & tough and the chicken depending on the time of day is usually under cooked. This is the RGV after all so mediocrity is the norm.

Today was my second visit to this location and I was reminded why I didn’t want to return in the first place. The people working the cafeteria service line will break the restaurant rules if they smile. Maybe it’s because they know they are serving subpar BBQ? I ordered sliced fajita and sliced brisket. Both were so dry that a dousing of their translucent, sticky sweet BBQ sauce didn’t stop it from continuously sticking to my throat. A feeling so unbearable, I couldn’t force it down. My mama raised me not to waste food and I’ve been known to finish my plate despite an undesirable meal. My mama would have agreed on leaving behind this $ 13.00 plate. I ate pickles. Which were ruined with stowaway molasses? My guess is it rubbed shoulders with something in the cafeteria line? I arrived at 11:45. It shouldn’t have been a case of it sitting too long if I had arrived 2−5pm(which still shouldn’t be an excuse for jerky-like BBQ). Looking around, most people had the baked potato, chopped sandwich and nice big helpings of sides. Maybe, their forte is not in BBQ but in BBQ friendly accoutrements? My advice? Keep going North on 281 to Nolana– Rudy’s. Yes, it’s a chain, but with good service and moist BBQ there’s a reason they’re good enough to be a chain. Or iv you want local, you could head east to Border BBQ in Weslaco. Next time, I will.

not bad! tender meat, juicy brisket, tasty ribs, but the one thing was un– expectingly good was the fried catfish, it was the Friday special, the catfish fillet was fricky, tasty, crispy and just right! I will go back again.

Willie B’s is the best BBQ in the RGV and one of he best I’ve had period. Pork Ribs, Brisket, Fajitas and their smoked turkey is great. There sauce is also great. I Highly recommend it. It is also better(and a better value) than it’s cousin in Edinburg.

This is the OG Willie B’s. It’s pecan-smoked BBQ which is kinda rare since most peeps use mesquite down here. Typical BBQ fare, and stuffed potatos which are huge. The BBQ sauce is the best around…
