I’ve been coming to see Tammy for almost 10 years. My first experience with her was when she worked at Salon One on Park Street. I was 30 years old and always running late for things. Tammy waited at the salon for 30 minutes after closing time just to cut my hair at 8:30PM. I asked her to use scissors rather than a buzzer and she gave me one of the best haircuts a guy could ask for at half the cost of what I paid in SF. I am now almost 40 and I still come to see Tammy every few months along with my brother-in-law and a few old friends.

I went in for a chin wax… price is $ 7& up. I get waxed regularly– every two weeks– and while it is embarrasssing, it is still in control. Larry waxed me. I’ve seen first time wax techs do a better job than him! He was timid… only waxed a super small portion of my chin and then, when I asked him to get the hairs with wax, he took out tweezers! He charged me $ 10! Will never go back. The only good thing was the wax was nice and didn’t hurt. Sorry, Larry, for not tipping,(i always tip– unless i’m extremely unhappy) but I figured the overcharge would have been your tip money.

My 6 yr old absolutely loves getting his hair cut by larry! They always make a big deal about him when we walk in and he’s in heaven with all the attention. Great friendly staff!

Had gotten my haircut here a few months ago by a guy named Larry. Funny sense of humor, and prompt. I liked that he wettened my hair in order to cut it. I understand this is an extra step that I don’t see many other stylists do(I’m a $ 10 hair cut guy haha), and I saw how it could be useful, especially for gradually thinning hair like mine to allow for more fine-tuned cut. Cool. Good location for those bicycling on Alameda.

I’ve gone here twice and they remembered my name from the first visit, great customer service! He did a really good job on my eyebrows on both visits, and the massage during my pedicure was twice the time of other nail salons. Will definitely be back!

Not too bad! I came here on the suggestion of a coworker because I wanted quality at a decent price. I got a pretty good hot oil treatment and the long layers were done really well. Only downside(for now) is that the shampoo smells like cherry cough syrup.

I bought these beautiful auburn/burgandy extensions & I usually go to Tomos on Park Street w/Kelly but when I brought my extensions she said she didn‘t have the color I wanted so I went to Salon #1& Tammy took me right away was super nice & matched my red exactly like the extensions. So beautiful I loved it! I went once more after that to go red again & now I have an appt for this FRIDAY I‘m going blonde!

Do not get a pedicure from Tammy or Larry! They don’t know what they are doing. My nails are still messed up, a month after my first(and last) visit. I can’t wait for them to grow out so I can go back to my usual place — Love Nails on Piedmont Ave. in Oakland. Tammy said I had an ingrown toenail on a toe I’ve never had trouble with. I thought — wow, she must be better than anyone else I’ve ever seen to catch that — and stupidly trusted her opinion. Turns out she butchered my big toe nail and a month later, I discover that it is painfully growing out in a very odd shape. I think they know how to cut men’s hair, but don’t go there for nails.

Tammy and Larry do a great job of washing, blow drying and flat ironing my hair silky straight. They have Chi products available and will let you bring your own for them to use on you too. They are super fast and not expensive. They give a decent trim away of your dead ends. I highly recommend. The less than 4 star reviews must be for other services. I’ve gone to them twice for flat iron(wash, blow dry, trim) and have had no problem.

Cons: –Sloppy paint job –Overcut cuticles –MADEMEBLEEDONMULTIPLEFINGERS –Very aggressive while cutting cutiles. No seriously, that sh#t hurt and manicures are not supposed to hurt. –They reuse nail files and nail buffers –Huge early 90’s poster on the walls –manicure has bubbles –Boring selection of nail colors and limited brands Pros: –Friendly staff

This is a great salon for friendly, speedy and very affordable service. I’ve been twice now. Once for an eyebrow and lip wax, and the second time for a manicure and another eyebrow wax. They did a great job on my eyebrows both times, and were very understanding when I told them I only had an hour. Tammy did my nails while Larry worked on my eyebrows. It was super cool that they were willing to speed things up so I could get it all done on my lunch hour. Tammy is really nice and remembered me from the last time I was there. I can tell she cares about the salon and services she provides. I highly suggest that you call and make an appointment in order to ensure you get Tammy(she’s really great). I’ve walked in both times and still had no problem, but I definitely plan to call in the future because she’s just that good. The manicure was an awesome deal at $ 12 and the eyebrow wax was $ 11. Just to be clear, this is an economy salon. I mean that as a compliment. They get you in and out fast, have great prices, and do a good job.

I went because I didn’t have cash for the other place around the corner. The people were really cute and nice so I was like, ok, gimme a Pedi. Sophia is on maternity leave and her replacement is just not good. Cut the hell out of my cuticles. Super burned when they then doused my toes with some chemical. Used the wrong color polish and the floral decals look kinda trashy, not worth $ 5. Filed my nails way too short so it hurt to wear closed toed shoes. Very nice people so I may return for another chance with Sophia is back.

Ok so I have long hair down to my butt. I told the ladies(it was two Asian ladies working there) to straighten and TRIM it. I guess they don’t understand what TRIM is. One of the lady just kept cutting my hair shorter and shorter until it reached my f**kin shoulders. After straightening my long hair for about 2 hours, she chopped it all off. What kind of sh*t is that. Never again will I ever go there.

I walked in for pedi and medi. Sophie is very nice and I like what she designed for me. However, I really hope that she could tell me about design fee before she offered the nail design. After I’ve done my pedi and medi, Sophie trimmed my hair too. I think it is a ok-quality for me since the price is reasonable too.

We love this place. Tammy is absolutely great. I do my hair there, and so my wife(you know, the picky Italian young lady). 8 years in the bay area, and finally we find someone who can make us consistently happy. I(another picky one), my wife and even our 2 years old little girl. Her first cut happened there. Tammy was so wonderful, professional and capable of pulling out a cut that our parents and friend from Italy still talk admire(mostly through pictures). We also exchange recipes(vietnamese and italian ones, what a mix). Thank you Salon 1, and thank you Tammy!

I raced into Salon #1 on a Saturday afternoon. Kelly was gracious enough to remove my unwanted facial hair without me having an appointment. I spent twenty-four dollars for an eyebrow, upper lip and chin waxing. I didn’t even look around the salon. I heard someone mumble about purchasing a flat iron. I’m guessing Salon #1 also sells beauty products. Kelly’s business card suggests this salon also does hair, nails and facials. Cool. Updated to add: Salon #1 becomes a «one stop» shop whenever I need a haircut, manicure, pedicure and waxing. Two stylists will blow dry or flat iron my hair at once, with one stylist on one side, and another stylist on the other. They really understand my drier, curly/kinky hair texture too. Prices are also reasonable.
