This salon is a little gem. I have been cutting my hair here since I was in Middle School. I have loved every treatment, haircut, and hair dye job here.
Service is excellent. I am always satisfied with the results. The waiting area is spacious and the salon is surrounded by restaurants and bank which makes it very convenient in case you forgot your cash or feeling hungry.

Ling is one of the best! My Auntie showed me this place when I was 18 and this is the only place that I feel comfortable with getting my haircut.
When I walked in for my appointment, Ling took me in right away and washed my hair. And after, I showed her some pictures of how I wanted my hair and she was very patient with me and asking me whether the length will be good for me.
She took her time in cutting my hair and I am very happy with the results! Definitely will be coming back to this place!

I used to come here for my own haircut and coloring even before they moved here from Oakland Chinatown, from San Pablo but wasn’t completely satisfied after a few visits so I found someone closer to home.
However, my teenage son only would let Eddie cut his hair. My preteen daughter is the same way about Ling.
To be honest, they do take their time with my kids and I appreciate it. It’s just for some reason it stopped working for me.

Found this salon on Unilocal and so glad I did! I haven’t had a professional cut that I loved in years but after recently giving birth to my son, my hair was super long, shaggy, and in need of some expert care. I called as soon as they opened and they were able to take me that day.
I showed up 30 minutes prior to my appointment time and asked if he could take me early, and lucky me, he was just finishing up another client! I didn’t really know what I wanted but looked at a few of the pictures on Unilocal,showed Eddie what I liked, described my need for something easy to maintain, something soft, not sharp, and about my need to clean up all the split ends.
Eddie spent over an hour cutting my hair. He was very thorough and clearly knew what he was doing. Even before he was done, I could tell i was going to love the cut. He spent lots of time perfecting my new look and checked in with me about the length before starting. We chatted the entire time, but I felt very comfortable in silence watching him work. The 25 years of experience I read about was very evident.
$ 45 for a cut of this caliber was a great price, but even better, i love what he did. I’ve gotten so many compliments and it hasn’t even been 24 hours. I spent a lot of money at expensive salons in San Diego and am thrilled I found such a great salon just walking distance from my new home.

Ling gives excellent haircuts for all ages. The salon is calm, clean, and beautiful. Prices are reasonable.

My experience here was fantastic. I enjoyed that the stations were spacious and not cramped together so it was a nice feeling not being in someone else’s haircut space on either side. Extremely inviting and calm setting… at least at the time I went during the week. I recently moved to the Bay Area and needed a cut for work. Eddie had given me my haircut and was very precise on everything he did. He basically listened to my idea and took over from there. I highly suggest coming to this joint if you’re looking for a great cut and to meet some genuinely nice people.

Always get my haircuts here from Ling and Eddie. They do a great job whether it be a cut, color, or style for special events. They always do their best to give me what I want. Their salon is super nice, spacious and clean. Easy parking and great location with lots of restaurants around.

Eddie is a hair-​psychic– he knows what I want before I do. He’s been cutting my hair and my kids’ hair for years. He gets that my son wants his hair long and manages to make it neat/​clean and hip/​shaggy all at once. He really takes his time and makes sure you are happy. Ling does a great job on my daughter’s hair and treats her sweetly. Prices are higher than when they were in Chinatown back in the day, but a good deal for the quality.

I feel bad since I never write a bad review and owner is very nice! BUT… This is probably the worst coloring job I ever had! Uneven messy huge spots of bleach! Told her to check foil since my hair takes color really fast… But ignored! Now I have partial white hair!!! It looks way worse in reality!
Have to give this a big FAIL! Do not recommend, at least not for color

I call Melanie Brown Hairstylist of New Image Beauty Salon as my fairy god mother. She has the magic touch for people who have daily «bad hair days» (like me). Her passion on what she does makes a huge difference. Perfection is her style. Love her!!! I’ll follow her wherever she goes.

It is evident hairstyling/​coloring to Melanie is not just a profession, it’s a passion and a purpose. And you’ll know what I’m talking about once you experience her. All of my friends have thanked me for ending their life long search for THE hairstylist when I introduced them to Mel. When Mel moved to San Diego some years ago, one friend even planned on a road trip to SD to get styled. Yes, she’s that good. And you’ll know you’ve got a great cut after a few months, until you get the chance to go back… whereas other cuts would be unruly by then, Melanie’s cut will still be manageable long after your cut is due. She’ll also give you valuable tips on how to style your hair so you’ll always look salon-​styled. If I sound like a fan, that’s because I am. Go see her, and she’ll make a fan out of you too :)

I just realize I never post this! Ling is really great. She listen to my list of like and don’t but she also explain everything she doing while cutting my hair. I made the biggest mistake going to Salon 1500 to have my bang cut. I had to walk out of that salon and drove here. Ling was able to fix and reshape my hair. She also explain how to take care of it after so i can keep this look. She save my image.

I decided to try out this salon because of the positive reviews on Unilocal.I needed an updo for prom, so I booked it about a week before. I was blown away, Ling did an amazing job. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and replicated it. She took her time and worked efficiently. I am definitely going back for every special event I have. Especially that it was only $ 40. My hair lasted all night.

Hair cut was mediocre
Hair highlights were the worst I have ever had. I asked for a light honey blonde highlights and what I received was orange ugliness. Highlights were not consistent in color either.
My portion of highlighted hair is fryed
They still charged me full price
They said if I want to come back they’d fix my poor excuse of a highlight job. But I mean come on if they try and «fix» the disaster they created it’d probably be another disaster. I’ll never be back or recommend them to anyone.

I’ve been a client for almost 10 years. I can truly say this place is the best salon because I never walk out disappointed. Ling and Eddie is very accommodating with booking appointment and have honest recommendations regarding with haircut and dyeing hair. This is also a reason for me to keep coming back.

My one and only hair salon! I’ve been coming here with my family for my haircuts and straightening for 10 years now. Even now that I’m not in the bay for most of the year, I still wait until breaks to come back and get my hair services here. Ling and Eddie are very welcoming all the time and never fail to give just the right cut. Along with their affordable prices (~$ 30) and beautiful new salon in Alameda, I always look forward to be back.

I went in there for a hair cut couple weeks ago. I would never wanna go back to this place again. If I can give a zero star I wouldn’t give it one. Because we both knew how terrible I looked! I was super shocked and speechless and walked home hoping I wouldn’t see anyone I knew on the street!!!
Did I mention that guy told me he has 20 something years hair cut experience?

Nice folks, very affordable ($ 35 for a cut!), clean place, even if it is completely devoid of character… I don’t know how long the salon has been open but it still doesn’t seem to have a personality. And I really wanted to like this place BUT no matter how sweet the people are, it still comes down to the haircut. If you like the fobby look with the very short layers on top and the kinda stringy ratty looking «tails» coming out the bottom, you might be happy coming here. But I am definitely not a fan of the fobby look, and even though I tried to give him every instruction to make it look the way I wanted – short of saying «DON’T MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A FOB!!!” – I left the salon with a cut that looked decidedly fobby. Sigh. I will never come here again :(
