I can’t believe in all the time I’ve been eating at Mario’s that I haven’t written a review. Time to remedy that. I’ve never had a bad meal here. 95% of the time I get the 10″ American cold sub. The bread is always fresh and it comes with ham, bologna, salami, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. That’s the way I have mine, but they are more than willing to accommodate your sandwich to your likings.(No tomatoes for the wife). Other dishes my wife and I have enjoyed are the Joey sub, the roast beef sub, meatloaf, and grilled chicken panini. The portions are always generous and most of the Old Girl can’t finish hers. Lunch the next day becomes a battle as I try to wolf it down before her.

Best sub sandwich in the entire Chicago area. Maybe the world! Moto Buene ! Also the Chicken parm is simply amazing. Bring you appetite. Portions are huge. Sometimes on Saturdays, the have chicken cacittiore. It is heavenly! Mario is wonderful, his wife and sister too! Keep doing what your doing. Gracia

No frills, but all flavor! Italian sub with hot peppers is the way to go! Don’t let the simplicity change your pallet. And get ready for a lot of decisions!

An Addison staple. I always try to stop in when I’m in town. The sub sandwiches are outstanding. Always fresh, and never skimpy. The meatball sub is one of my favorites with the Italian a close second. The other food(pastas, Italian dishes, etc) are a great option if you don’t feel like cooking dinner. I have never been disappointed with the service or prices.

I am so glad to see that Mario’s doesn’t have a review under 3 stars. I love this place. I will be honest I’ve had some of their other menu items like chicken parm or pasta and wasn’t impressed. But I hands down have never had an Italian sub better than theirs. It is by far the most amazing sand which I’ve ever eaten. That is basically the gist of my review. Go their and get the Italian sub. You will not be disappointed.

They have VERY good Italian Sandwiches… don’t skip over The Joey, very good rare roast beef. They have a lot of traditional Italian dishes as well available, I have heard good things but have not tried. This is a no frills place but you can get in and out and it is a solid sandwich! You can’t compare them to Serino’s which is just up the road, it like comparing McDonald’s to Burger King… they are similar yet totally different. But, Serino’s can be a madhouse at lunch… but that can say a lot a place too.

Great Italian sandwiches and pasta dishes. I’m surprised but I was able to get a braciole here. You have la nonna taking your order and making your sandwiches. Old school feel and taste. Love it.

Best place ever. If you can’t find anything you love here than you have a problem. Family owned by the nicest people ever. The only problem you should ever have here is deciding what to chose for your meal.

My boyfriend has been going to Mario’s since he was a kid. We have been here many times together and I just feel like the quality of their food has been going down in the last year or so. Their italian sub only has like 3 pieces of meat on it and you have to ask for additions like tomato and onion on your sandwich. Very OK sandwiches. Save your money and go to Serino’s deli about a mile down Rohlwing in Addison. They have much better subs and awesome homemade pizza!

I used to come to Mario’s deli many years ago when I worked in Addison. Haven’t done that for a long time, came here today and wow, the chicken salad sandwich is just like mama used to make, incredible!!! I will certainly be back sooner to try out the Italian dinner/lunches they have, they all look so tempting. Keep it up!

I love this family owned business. Great food reminds me of MAMA kitchen. I really recommend Rigatoni with fresh mozzarella. Love it.

Stopped in at Marios which is a frequent lunch spot for me. This is a standard Italian style deli with a good selection of sandwiches and daily specials. Their sandwiches are big as I normally get a 6 inch. I had the ravioli and sausage lunch special today. Portions are generous. The interior of this place is a bit dated but the food more than compensates for this.

So to give you a few specifics… I grew up on Marios Deli II(the one located in Bensenville). I talked to the owner of this Mario Deli and they mentioned to me that its their Nephews who own the one in Bensenville. She also said that their menus(as well as pricing) are slightly different due to the fact that its different clients in this area. I ordered the 10 inch Italian, med drink, and med pasta salad. Total came out to being a little over 16 $. I guess its a bit pricey but its good food. The sandwich was great, but I prefer the one at Mario Deli II. But as mentioned, the ingredients and their menus are different then the one at Marios Deli II. I just felt it lacked meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and even seasoning. I only managed to get half of it down(So I had left overs the next day). But positives are you can taste the freshness and definitely isn’t a subway or jimmy john sandwich. This is a local sandwich which I recommend having if you never had it before. The Pasta Salad was ok. Nothing really to brag about. I didn’t think it was amazing but it was good(probably any normal pasta salad). But owners are very nice and could tell they care about their business. The overall feel of the place was like a usual deli. I would definitely recommend their sandwich but in my opinion, I prefer the one in Bensenville. They have a huge arrangement of sandwiches as well as sides so I would recommend trying it at least once in a while!

I would die for some Mario’s chicken salad. Seriously, it’s that good! I don’t know how they do it, but theirs is by far the best I’ve ever had. Get it on a croissant for the best taste! Also try the pasta salad, potato salad, homemade meatballs and fresh homemade Italian sausage. Whenever I’m in Chicago, I take orders from my family back east and bring back up to 10lbs of frozen sausage. I get some weird looks from TSA at O’Hare, but it’s totally worth it!

The subs are simply delicious. No chipotle, saian fusion, oven baked melt type of subs. The american is simple and so very delicious. Small little italian deli. plenty of pasta options and dessert. Lasagna didnt blow me away but its great to be able to order lasagna to go n get it in 5 min. Not bad either. I will definitely return.

As a regular customer of Bigby’s Pour House which shares the same building, I have been to Mario’s many times. I like Mario’s, but I don’t love it… well at least not everything. What I do love is that it is not Sub-Johns-nos. I like real old fashioned sub sandwiches. I also like that they have a variety of other dishes such as lasagna, chicken Vesuvio, meatloaf, eggplant parmesan, etc. The food is all«homemade» tasting which puts it above all those chains. Walking into Mario’s from either the outside entrance, or the hallway shared with Bigby’s you find yourself in a small, somewhat sterile environment with food cases on one side and plenty of tables and chairs on the other. Everything is clean and well kept which is great for a restaurant. It definitely has that deli feel to it that doesn’t really encourage you to hang out. I usually take my food over to Bigby’s to enjoy it with a beer. The counter is usually manned by Mario himself or his wife. They efficiently understand what I am ordering and get the ball rolling. The one area that I think leaves room for improvement is personality. Perhaps they have been doing this for so long that it doesn’t seem important anymore, but personality goes a long way. All the times I have been in Mario’s I have never felt that they appreciated my business. I don’t even care if they remember me personally, but just give some indication that you are happy to see me choose your restaurant. Once you order, you get to hang out while they make the sandwich fresh(or heat up your entrée which was precooked, but kept cold in the display case). Speaking of the hot entrees, they are served in styrofoam bowls/plates and there is only plastic utensils. I know that this is the way things are done these days, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. I often avoid those items if I think about it too much before ordering. I also find the sauce to be good, but a little on the salty side. Sometimes if the Bigby’s/Mario’s schedules overlap, I will get some dessert to go with my beer drinking.(I’m weird that way.) Mario’s has a nice selection of homemade desserts like cannoli, Napolean, tiramisu, cookies, brownies, and other things that I cannot remember. Anything that has cream in it and benefits from being chilled is delicious. Unfortunately, they keep the cookies and brownies in the same case and I didn’t like that they were served cold. They also have gelato(hidden off to the side by the napkins and utensils). I have only had the hazelnut and vanilla. The hazelnut gelato was very good. The vanilla must not be as popular because it was a little freezer burned. So overall I like Mario’s. I don’t know if I would go out of my way to eat here if it wasn’t next to Bigby’s, but it is definitely a nice break from the limited Bigby’s menu. Unfortunately Mario’s is usually a couple hours away from closing when Bigby’s is opening up, so the window of opportunity is small. Keep the fresh subs coming and I will be back… and looking for a little smile.

I’m not normally a religious person but… JesusT*ttyF*ckingChrist that’s one good veggie sub! Now, I’m generally not much of a sub fan. I might even hate them. Something about them reminds me of grade school lunches where the cheese would sit on your sammie unrefrigerated for hours to the point where it goes a big rubbery one and gets all melty and disintegrated. Yucko the Clown. Mario’s veggie sub has become my new Tuesday(or any time I’m in the area) tradition. Get the 10 incher(trust me– if you go with the 6 your life will only be full of regrett), no mayo, and ask for the spicy cheese– that ish is seriously spicy and oh-so GD delish. On occasion I’ll veer from exclusively getting one 10 inch sub and opt for a little variety… like maybe I’ll get two 10 inch subs, OR a 10 inch sub and ravioli, or a 10 inch veggie sub and the delish veggie rotolo… and I mustn’t forget a kolacki cookie and gelato. Everything is phenomenal. Truly. And there’s TONS of veggie options. On some days the super nice little woman behind the counter asks how many sets of silverware I need for all the food I’ve ordered… as if I’m order for multiple people. Just one, I say. In fact, I probably don’t even need the one bc everything is so good I just dig right in with my digits. Plasticware can’t hold this Bia back, yo. The environment inside is kinda sterile but it’s a deli– whadya expect? And I’ll admit that sometimes the worker bees can be kinda cold but I don’t care– that veggie sub still manages to warm the cockles of my heart and I’m giving them 5 stars for it. Viva La Veggie Sub + 10 inches or BUST!

‘My sub runneth over!’ Yes, the meat was literally popping out of the sides of my Italian sandwich. I was in sub heaven. The sumptuous meat and cheese was complimented by a few pieces of lettuce and tomatoes and topped with Mario’s Italian dressing on a very fresh sesame roll. The only thing missing was a few thin slices of onion. My wife ordered the veggie and a small cup of fruit salad and was quite happy. Yes, vegetarians, between the veggie sandwich, eggplant paninni, and pasta dishes you have many options. The only thing that I won’t do next time is order the 10″ sub. I guess I’m just not man enough! This was the first time in a long while that I haven’t been able to finish a sub. Next stop at Marios will require ordering one of their beautiful looking pasta dishes. I think I’ll plan an evening visit to Marios for dinner and wash it down with a couple of Two Brothers pints from my favorite bar next door, Bigby’s. Yeah, that’s the ticket…

It was cold. Bigby’s Pour House was about fifteen minutes from opening. And, I was hungry following a traffic-ridden drive from the city. It appeared that the fates had written me a prescription for an unshakable case of the hangriness. Ooooh, lookie — there’s a sandwich shop next door! Crisis averted. I was surprised to find a warm, cozy shop with a family feel once I walked through the doors. Turns out they’ve been around for years, and you can satiate your craving for all things Italian between their impressive offering of just about any pasta dish your carb-lovin’ heart desires and their standout sandwiches. I went with the deceptively simple yet all-out awesome roasted red pepper and fresh mozzarella sandwich. If you’re into salads and soup they make them too. But you must save room for the cannoli — it’s not a recommendation, that’s a rule. Thanks, Mario, for turning my frown upside down.
