Roman Amphitheatre

The amphitheatre is preserved very well and with the sea behind it, the whole experience was just absolutely beautiful! Out of the Roman ruins I’ve seen so far in Tarragona, the amphitheatre surpasses the Tarraco walls or cathedral anyday!
Be sure to pack sunblock in the summer though, its blazing hot and there are barely any shaded areas!

Con el mar al fondo, los días que el cielo está despejado es una maravilla. Y es que seguramente lo mejor del Anfiteatro de Tarraco es su ubicación. (Sin ganas de desmerecer el sitio, que es muy bonito).
Está claro que podría estar mejor conservado, pero teniendo en cuenta que se construyó en el s. II d. C., toda la historia que ha vivido y que está a merced de la humedad del mar, creo que está muy bien. Una de las visitas imprescindibles en Tarragona, de esas para hacer con la cámara de fotos en la mano y sin prisas.

Tremenda historia, merece la pena visitarlo con alguien que lo conozca bien y empaparse de la cultura, dice la historia que lo llenaban de agua para simular batallas marinas. Recomendable por supuesto.

es un sitio precioso, se ve yegando con el tren. lastima que esta tan viejo, en italia estan mejres. visita obligadisima para todo turista que seasome a la ciudad

Wahnsinns Kulisse, wenn man oben auf dem Aphittheater steht und über diese uralten Steinmauern auf’s Meer blickt. Ein Ort, an dem sich Geschichte und Gegenwart treffen in Form von Konzerten. Leider ist es dadurch auch nicht immer zu 100% sauber bzw. aufgeräumt aber ein wahre Must wenn man gerade in Tarragona ist.

Ein wunderschöner Ort. Hier haben einst die Römer das spanische Festland geentert. Das Amphitheater liegt etwas oberhalb jedoch unweit der Küste am östlichen Ende des Einkaufboulevards und ist der Anziehungspunkt für Geschichtsinteressierte.

Lastima que el estado no sea del todo bueno, aun asi se puede contemplar con unas vistas maravillosas i observar la grandeza de la estructura

Comparándolo con otros teatros romanos en los que he estado, Amman, Jerash, Mérida su estado y conservación deja bastante que desear. Aunque los días de cielo azul está precioso, y siempre es agradable sentarse en sus asientos y dejarse llevar.

Tarragona’s well-​preserved Roman Amphitheatre occupies a dramatic hillside site, above the main railway line, with impressive views of the sea.
130m long by 102m wide, this was a mainstay of Roman entertainment, featuring spectacles such as gladiator fights, contests between exotic wild animals and, of course, Christians being put to death in various unpleasant ways.
On one side, the rows of seats were cut into the hillside rock itself, but the best preserved part is that facing the sea, which is still a dozen rows high. A unique and important feature historically is the church built within the remains: a Christian basilica was erected in the remains during the 6^th century to commemorate the Christian martyrs, and later a Romanesque church was erected in the 12^th century. The walls of this church still remain to their full height, and the burials ground in the cemetery built on the south side can also be seen clearly.
