Casa Luciano

Nada recomendable. Estuvimos tomando una cerveza y una pepsi y nos gastamos 8,45 €. La carta nos pareció muy cara por lo que decidimos no cenar allí. Por lo que vimos en otras mesas la gente no parecía muy contenta con lo que comía. Claramente una trampa para turistas aprovechando su buena ubicación.
I don’t recommend this restaurant. It’s a tourist tramp, the price is high and poor quality.

There are few times in life when service it this bad. Our waiter made eye contact several times but refused to come over. The fish dishes are very fishy. We sat outside and the view was nice.

Un domingo por la noche nos apetecía salir a cenar de raciones por el barrio. Eran las 23:00 y los dos locales «de toda la vida» que conocíamos estaban cerrados, así que terminamos en este establecimiento que linda con la Glorieta de Atocha. Preguntamos si la cocina estaba abierta y, como la respuesta fue afirmativa, nos sentamos en la barra. De los tres platos que pedimos, lo primero en llegar fueron los pinchos morunos. Exquisitos: recién hechos, con la carne tierna y bien especiada. No habría tanta suerte con los dos posteriores. En segundo lugar, las patatas bravas (ya que tenemos la idea de ir probándolas en todos los locales que podamos o nos recomienden a través de Unilocal). Diría que están entre las 2 o 3 PEORES que he probado en mi vida. Las patatas daban la impresión de estar más cocidas que fritas, y la salsa era absolutamente insípida: daba la sensación de que hubieran añadido mucho tabasco (porque sí, picaba con ganas) a un tomate triturado de bote. Horribles. Y en cuanto al tercero, las croquetas (de jamón, aunque no se especifique), simplemente aceptables. Caseras, sí, pero de tamaño reducido y sin gran sabor. Además, el agua de la lechuga que las acompañaba mojaba uno de los lados de las croquetas, algo que no es determinante, pero que se puede evitar fácilmente. Por otro lado, ignoramos si fue por la hora, pero el trato dispensado no fue el mejor: muy seco y distante. Creo que es la primera vez que puntúo un establecimiento sólo con dos estrellas, pero el trato y la comida (salvo el pincho moruno) de Casa Luciano no merecen más, y desde luego no tenemos ninguna intención de volver para comprobar si cualquier otro día ambos aspectos mejoran.

I tried this place coming out of Museum Reina Sofia. We had stopped at another place about 2 stores down. But the server before we sat down said to my Sister in law. The drink here starts at 5 euro… I tough that was rude.
At Casa Luciano as soon as we approach we got a very nice gentle men who was nothing but courteous and attentive.
The food was quite good, I had chicken paella and so did my sister in law. While My husband had a thin steak with french fries (he always keeps it save)
The bill came up to $ 60.78 (that is in dollars) and truly for madrid for 4 people (counting the 4 year old) It is very good.

Trampa para guiris despistados. Ayer, una caña y un granizado de limón: 9,15 €. Estafa total, además de una tapa con 2 croquetas congeladas.
Un sitio para no volver jamás. Además, la amabilidad de los camareros es nula.

Es muy caro para la calidad que ofrecen, es un bar-​restaurante de batalla con mucha fotografía de platos típicos españoles para llamar la atención de los turistas.
Luego te sirven una comida que pagas a precio de oro para lo que es.

Qué queréis que os diga, me pasé ayer a ver a unos amigos que estaban tomándose una cerveza y:
— Cuando fui a coger una silla el camarero me atajó, me preguntó si me iba a sentar con ese grupo, y entonces me dijo que no cogiese esa silla, que cogiese otra exactamente igual de más lejos. (Prometo que no tuvo ningún sentido y aún me pregunto si el tío estaba 100% cuerdo)
— Pedí 3 cañas, el vaso debía ser de 20cl, mahou. La gracia salió por 7,5 €.
— Cuando fuimos a pagar nos dijeron que nada de pagar cada uno lo suyo, que hiciésemos el cálculo entre todos, y que lo diésemos junto.
— A veces te ponían tapas y a veces no. Cuando las ponían, las tapas eran aceitunas de bote (vale, en una ocasión sacaron trocitos de tortilla que no estaban mal)
Al final acabamos preguntándonos quién (y por qué) había elegido ese sitio para quedar, y terminamos hasta cabreados. El servicio fue espantoso, salí muy descontento, nunca mais.

Luciano’s is located just a short walk (across a very busy street) from the main train station. While in the area was starting to feel hungry so went inside and everything on the menu, including over there bar where you can see pictures of what you order, looked like a big portion and filling. So i just settled for some eggs and fries. My daughter went for an omelet. They were both OK; nothing to write home about however. The 2 plates of eggs were just over 6 Euro each and since they lacked a bit of salad and stuff, I thought they were over priced. A half liter of water was 2.50 and a beer 2.45.
If you’re in the area and hungry, check it out but there are several other options around as well.

One day, I was in Madrid. On a tour bus. Hungry.
I was really goddamned hungry, and my hungriness was only exacerbated by that stupid tour bus that I couldn’t seem to convince my stepmother to leave behind. It took all of two hours (actually, it took more than two hours) to find a restaurant that was listed in her guide book.
The guide book was another bad thing altogether. So, we finally find the restaurant, and, I must say, the clowns who wrote that book must be laughing their a***s off. (Are we allowed to write out profanities on Unilocal?)
The restaurant was disgusting. Never have I seen so much grimy looking food spilled on the floor in my life. Supposedly they had the best tapas in Madrid — as if that’s something you can really say in a city with a tapas place on every block.
Well, we didn’t eat there.
Instead we went to Casa Luciano. I think my vision may have been blurred by the two-​hour bus ride in search of the «best» tapas bar in Madrid venture that failed, and I randomly pointed this gem out and said, «We should eat there.»
We had the vegetable paella, mushroom risotto, pizza, and my sister, hilariously, ended up with a big plate of fried sardines.
They had a slight taste of flour and nothing else. There was a lemon wedge provided, so they ended up tasting like lemon juice with flour.
They were crunchy.
They were bland.
And they were piled on a plate looking absolutely unappetizing to any normal living person.
The mushroom risotto wasn’t risotto. It was rice and mushrooms with a slight cheese flavor. And the rice wasn’t cooked well.
The vegetable paella was bland and uninteresting. The lima beans looked like they had been cooked multiple times, and, of course, my dad had to start making reused food jokes.
His pizza was okay. Even bad pizza is generally okay though, and I didn’t try it. He was the only person at the table to finish his meal.
The service was horrible at best — they brought the food out at all different times. I don’t really care about service though — especially when I’m traveling in Europe.
They also had a huge TV on the wall playing pop music videos. It was a little bit odd.
Every time I think of this restaurant, I think of my Dad’s face when they brought out those sardines. Obvious held-​back laughter, slight grimace, followed by a bowed head to hide a huge grin.

We walked by this place after we tried churros and chocolate at a café and saw theirs in the window and knew we were stopping the next morning for our Spanish breakfast of champions. Plus we thought since they have been in business so long it would be delicious however, the churros were cold, tasted a bit oily and the breakfast sandwich I ordered was made with an over cooked egg. The other thing was the waiter… a real friendly guy, NOT. Miserable, did us a big favor by taking our order and an even bigger favor by bringing us the food we ordered. Skip this place.

Convenient location, but felt like a tourist trap: the fries & eggs are too greasy, and the paella was so-​so (i.e., I’ve had better in North America). My gazpacho was refreshing, but quite expensive at almost 6 Euros for a small bowl. The pizza was pretty good. A hit-​or-​miss spot I suppose.

After a day of museum hopping we were looking for a quick casual dinner. Seeing «Desde 1904» (
) we thought Casa Luciano would be a safe bet despite the catering to tourists large picture menu on the wall.
I went with one of the many combo plates while the g/​f ordered a paella and we shared an order of patatas bravas.
The patatas bravas (
) were really soft and needed some more fry time to crisp up the outside a bit.
The combo plate (
) of ham, croquettes, tortilla espanola, sausage & fries was fine and satisfied my hunger.
It was a disgusting paella (
). It was dry and bland. If you look at the picture, you can see a plastic plate inside the metal paella pan. Yep, microwaved paella at the 100 year old restaurant.
To add insult to injury she found a small stone in it. They did apologize and comp the dish.
Paella: 1 star, even without the stone
Combo Plate: 3 stars
Patatas Bravas: 2 stars

Un menú del día por poco más de 10 euros y unos bocadillos, en general, muy buenos y con pan crujiente. ¿Qué más se puede pedir? Una terraza, por ejemplo. También la tienen, y muy amplia, así que seguro que encuentras sitio para sentarte.
Otro punto a favor es el horario, porque abren a las 7 de la mañana conocedores del hambre insaciable de los borrachos. Qué pillines.

Casa Luciano, a un minuto del Reina Sofía y la discoteca Kapital y a tres de la zona de Huertas y la estación de Atocha, juega claramente dos bazas: son baratos y abren muchas horas.
Por eso se han convertido en el sitio donde vamos mis amigos y yo cuando las discotecas de la zona nos han echado el cierre. Os aseguro que los señores de Casa Luciano a las 7 ya están preparados para servirte lo que les pidas. A casi todos sus platos puede añadírsele la coletilla «grasiento», pero de empalmada todo sabe a gloria (menos los controles de alcoholemia, claro).
Por el día allí se congregan turistas y abuelos de la zona que buscan un bocata decente por pocos euros. A primer ahora el cuadro lo conforman los empalmadores, los que van a viajar desde Atocha y los servicios públicos, como ambulancias y policías (si tienes que inventarte una excusa para no ir a currar al día siguiente… ¿quién puede aconsejarte mejor que uno del SAMUR?

El otro día al pasar por Atocha me apeteció un bocadillo pero no quería comerme uno de los del Brillante así que decidí preguntar a un chico que pasaba por allí que si conocía algún otro bar que vendiera bocadillos ricos y a buen precio.
Me dijo que había uno a unos cinco minutos, que se llamaba Casa Luciano y que tenía unos bocadillos que sobre todo cuando vuelves de fiesta sientan de maravilla.
Así que allí me fui y la verdad es que el sitio me gustó. La tortilla del bocata estaba jugosa y el pan muy rico y crujiente. Además el sitio está bien, es amplio y tiene terraza. Fisgoneé un poquito el menú del día y no tenía mala pinta, tenían cuatro primeros y cuatro segundos para elegir, con su postre, su pan y su bebida, que por 10.50 euros para la zona en la que estamos, no está nada mal.
