Ok, things are different in Europe. Of the 2 buildings on these grounds stay in the Barajas. If you don’t simple amenities like eating and getting ice require you to trek from one building to the next, get this, the front desk person didn’t know if the would give me a bucket or glass(my stay here has taught me to leave nothing for granted) so the specter of mystery and anxiety accompanied me to the«other side». It seems of the 2 hotels I stayed in here in Madrid, there is a shortage of hand towels, soap and toilet paper. I guess I’m just too regular and hygienic… lol. The Wi-Fi did not work and had to trek to the front desk to get some antiquated ethernet cables. Oh, and you need a hearing aid to hear the T.V. as they have regulated them to inhibit the occasional high volume freak. The restaurant is a little pricey and the food is ok and bland. Make a right out of the hotel walk on the right hand side of the sidewalk to the traffic light and make another right and walk to the dead end which is where the mall is with a variety of shops and eateries. The property is a stones throw from the airport. The shuttle is nice and clean(Mercedes Benz super van!). The property is nice and clean. I love the smell of these Euro hotels! The rooms are functional with a huge shower. Pleasantly appointed interior and hallway areas add to a feeling of calm. Good value for a nights stay and catching that flight in the morning.

Not a terrible place to stay. We stayed at Axor during the last leg of our Santiago de Compostela journey. We couldn’t leave Spain without visiting Madrid so we booked here. Maybe it was us(since we walked the Compostela and were slightly jaded with our judgement on comfortable beds) but the beds at this hotel were pretty darn comfortable. The hotel was very contemporary and the amenities were not too shabby. The downside: 1) whatever air freshener they use in the hallway has got to sprayed by someone who has desensitized his/her smell. It was awfully overwhelming. Think getting stuck in a car with a whole bunch of those pine cone air fresheners with no way out. Yeah, it was bad. 2) the location. If you have to take a taxi to get in and out of the city, good luck because it’ll cost ya. Axor is a ways away from Madrid and cost of taxi adds up. Upside: 1) comfy beds 2) nicely tiled, clean and functional bathrooms 3) close to Barajas and 4) close to a rather large mall that has a supermarket and theatre.

Cheap, clean and new with nice bathrooms. Friendly and efficient service. But VERY thin walls, like comically thin… so try to get a room at the end of the corridor, unless you are the noisy one! Breakfast and restaurant leave a lot to be desired, but there’s a huge shopping centre about 10mins walk with plenty to eat. Free shuttle to airport but about 1hr by bus to the centre, but that’s not why you’re staying here, right?

For a hotel next to the Madrid Barajas airport, Axor Feria does the trick. There are good and bad points, but for what it is, you can’t really complain. The décor was all very modern and design-centric — almost to the point of gaudiness. The shower faucets had some problems with a weak water flow, but I guess for the price it could be worse. On the flip side, their complimentary airport shuttle, WiFi, and English-speaking staff prove to be extremely helpful. One thing about the shuttle, however. We reserved a seat on the airport shuttle when we checked in, only to be told that it was full when we tried to get on. Uh oh. Long story short, the staff were very helpful in getting another mode of transport relatively quickly. Only problem is that the driver was very disgruntled to have to drive to multiple terminals(apparently the terminals are far away from each other…). Oh, and it’s relatively far from the city center, so you’ll have to take a public bus and transfer to the subway if you want to get to Sol without taking an overpriced cab. Overall, it’s an affordable hotel that’s close to an airport. Wouldn’t really recommend staying here throughout your trip, since having to get to the city is quite the headache.
