Visually it’s a rather impressive building, BUT it’s also quite an eyesore with that giant flat roof. It seemed like there was the opportunity here to make an impressive modern structure and then it was taken too far with the roof…

Went to the Opera with an official function. We saw La Traviata. Had the opportunity to tour the opera before dinner and performance. The ambience is impressive and the sound is perfect. This is a wonderful venue. We got their by boat(cold in October) but took a taxi home. The location is across from Amalienborg and on the line to the marble church. The location is impressive. The quality of the built is — nothing spared. The restaurant was OK, but the show was fantastic.

I have just been at Operaen for the first time. This is my thoughts about about the venue and the facilities. Operaen has just turned 10 years, and unfortunately it shows. It looks a bit worn out. This place should be a magical luxury palace for music, dance, entertainment. The feeling of magic and luxury evaporate, when e.g. seat covers are ready to be changed, tiles at especially staircases have pieces missing, and the cleaning is less than perfect. The artists make a big effort to put up a spectacular performance, but the surroundings but them down. Their is not a attention to details. Tables are but forward to put your empty glass after finishing your drink. How about table cloths at those tables? How about containers for your trash(you can buy sandwiches, which are served in a box). The entrance hall had piles of sandwich boxes all over the place. At the restrooms the bins were packed with paper towels. Operaen have a great potential. It is situated at that special place in the harbour just a the seaside with a look at Amaliehaven, Amalienborg and the wonderful Marmorkirke. It is spacious, and you can avoid to get cramped, if you just go to 2nd or the 3rd floor. Even with a full house. It looks like the artists have all the equipment and room to put of a show. Come early before a show(two hours I will say), because you have a lot to do. At ground level both to the left and right you can lay your coat for a small fee. Below level you can hang you coat for free, but their is no security. At every level you find bars with a small but very fine selection of beverages(avoid queues in the breaks and preorder), sandwiches, and snacks. Enjoy yourself, the other guests, the expectation, the views and so on. 30 minutes before the show they give a short introduction at 1st level to the left in the entrance hall. You can also eat dinner at the Operaen.

Well, from outside the architecture is a bit painful mostly because of the highest part of the building and a desperate need of bragging about something that you don’t really get. give a second chance to the first pompous impression you’ll get and go inside. much nicer than one would expect. went to that opera couple of times. definitely not the best opera singers of Europe. nothing special(you’re not in Berlin, Milan nor Paris) but then again if you buy the cheap places you spend a nice evening. the view from the roof is really beautiful. the building is the night is much more elegant and you will probably reach it taking a boat. what is sad is that you can’t really walk there without having to go through a dodgy road. Forget about the nice post opera walk. you’ll have to take the last boat/bus to go back to the centre. careful about one thing when you buy your tickets(the cheap ones) you’ll get the right to get inside the chamber, but not to sit down. Imagine spending the 4 hours of a Wagner opera standing up. it kind of ruins it. if you don’t pay in Copenhagen you won’t get much. If opera is your cup of tea, go to Berlin, for twice less(from 12 euros) you’ll be a sit and an incredibly good time.

Nestled along the shipyards with a spectacular view of the Amalienborg palace and the Marble Church, this is one of the most modern opera houses in the world. The complex is quite large, with a beautiful lobby and a black box theatre. The main hall seats at least 1500 and it seems that there is not a bad seat in the house. Tickets start for as little as about EUR20 and there are day-of tix held on reserve.
