A taqueria in Copenhagen?! This Californian had to try it after it was written-up in the NY Times, Bona Appetit, and owned by a former Noma pastry chef. Although a little pricey, they have tasty tacos(we had the lengua and carnitas), and the tortillas are one of the best I’ve had.

Foodies recommended this to me, and pointed me to the New York Times review to prove its trendiness/noteworthiness. I know what you’re thinking, because I was thinking the exact same thing? Why in the F would I want to try tacos while in Copenhagen when there are so many other amazing places? The answer? This place is run by a former pastry chef at Noma, and everything is FRESH. I got a veggie taco, a chicken taco, and a pork taco. They were all fantastic, and the shell was probably the freshest I’d ever had. I also got chips and salsa, which wasn’t quite like your typical salsa but was still good. The chips? They tasted like they were just baked. All in all, this place wasn’t cheap. Three tacos, one order of chips and a Jarritos cost the equivalent of $ 27. Let me repeat that. $ 27! American! But it was good. Be careful of your belongings if you choose to sit outside, as there are some vagrants that were passing through.

Im somewhere between loving it and A Okay. The food is great but it seems kind of expensive compared when lokking af the serving size. I ordered the three tortillas with different filling and all of them were delicious and exciting. The portion were snack sized and 100 dkr is kind of expensive for a snack on a paper plate with no service. The taste could easily drag me back but not for a serious meal

You know when you just feel that everything is perfect and you don’t miss anything in the flavours. That is what you get here when you order tacos. Super salsas with both heat and fruitiness. I will dream of these tacos until next time :)

Best tortillas in Copenhagen(pretty sure the whole of Denmark). On the menu is 3 different fillings. — Huevo Ranchero; fried egg, pork crackling, salsa, onion, and cilantro — Carnitas; slow cooked pork belly, onion, cilantro, and pasilla salsa — Melted cheese with avocado, cilantro, onion, and salsa 3 tortillas for DKK100, — or if you’d rather make your own filling, you can also buy freshly made tortillas to bring home with you. I tried 2 carnitas(pork belly) and 1 melted cheese. All of them is toppen with a bit of chili salsa, but if you need more just ask. The meat was nice and tender, with a citrus twist that made the tortillas nice and fresh. The melted cheese w/avocado(vegan) was good, but I preferable meat or fish on my tortilla. 2x thumbs up from me. At last I’ve found a place to get homemade, tasty tortillas.

Hija de Sánchez has by far the best tacos I have ever had. Having just moved to CPH from NYC, I have had my fair share of Mexican food at top restaurants. However, this place blows all of them away. I go here at least once a week and am always pleasantly surprised by the new lineup of tacos and the perfect execution each and every time. Yes, 100 dkk for 3 tacos sounds like a lot, but when you see(and taste!) the quality of ingredients and effort that goes into each taco, you won’t think twice about the price. Just come here and try the tacos. You will be so happy you did! AND the people who work at the stand are the absolute best — so friendly and easy to talk to. 5 star all around.

Amazing tacos. Clear understanding of how to use fresh ingredients to pull together flavours into little magical tacos. Worth going out of your way to enjoy. Would go any time I’m visiting Copenhagen.

Considering I heard about Hija in Texas, I had to go on my next trip to Copenhagen. So I did. I can fairly say this was the first time I had ever eaten tacos on a picnic table that was iced over. But that’s just Denmark for you. Oh, and the Al Pastor, better than any I’ve ever had… in Denmark, America, or Mexico.

Just like great pizza starts with a great crust, great tacos start with great tortillas. Hija de Sánchez’s tortillas are fantastic. They are rocking una maquina tortilladora de Lenin and using Oaxacan corn which basically means every other taquería in town is bringing a knife to the«authenticity» gun fight. The menu changes daily but at least one of the taco standards afficionados will recognize, carnitas, lengua, or pastor is ususally available. But it is their tacos that take you out of the comfort zone, hinting at the real diversity of Mexico’s flavors that make Hija de Sánchez great. Huevo and chicharrón. Quesillo(made from local organic milk) and chapulines – grasshoppers and cheese! Plus a CPH-ified beer cocktail, the Mikkelada and Mexican coke.

If you’re ever at Toverhallerne, you cannot miss this! I have been there enough times to try most of their tacos, as they serve 3 kinds a day, and my favorite so far are the pastor(pork) and carnitas(pork belly). Cooked to perfection with freshly made tortilla shell, top it up with some extra spicy habanero and you got yourself a kickass lunch.

I had an even longer review, with more detail, but Unilocal is limiting my character count. Message me, and I’ll send you my entire text. Here’s a quick summary: This place seems unassuming, but the chef and her staff do a fantastic job with everything on her menu. From the quality of the ingredients. To the preparation and care of the salsas(so smoky, that one with the quesadillas; don’t be afraid of the habenero one). To the skill in the cooking and preparation of each of the items(in an outdoor setting, nonetheless!), including all the desserts! Expensive for tacos, some may say. Maybe if at first glance, and if they were made like ordinary $ 1.25 tacos. But they aren’t, and so I’d say they’re worth it. So when you get here, just order one of everything, maybe 2 if you’re hungry. And if you’re a jaded Mexican food enthusiast, come here and have your eyes opened. If I make it back to Copenhagen, it will likely be because of this place. Better yet, she should open a spot in LA or SF. Please! – Some more detail: Let me preface by saying, I thought I knew all kinds of tacos well — from SF to LA to Dallas. I mention this because some of you may be of the same mindset. How good could this taco stand in Copenhagen be? Fantastic. My wife and I found ourselves in the Torvehallerne marketplace during vacation. On the menu: Lengua? Pretty standard. Huevo? In a taco? Ok… Cheese and avocado? Not that compelling. No carne asada, carnitas, pollo asado, Baja-style fish, etc. Maybe we’ll check out some of the open-faced sandwich shops inside. We’re in Denmark, we should save the Mexican food for back in California. We finish up inside, and walk by the stand again. My wife said she’s just going to get something, and I can try if I want. We get the quesadillas, and one of each of the tacos on the menu. The quesadillas. An order has 3 pieces. We have the salsa on the inside — it’s easier to pick up. They don’t look like much — pretty small in fact — but upon first bite, the smokiness of the salsa, and the quality of the cheese comes out. Very surprised, and eye opening. Delicious. The egg taco. Did we actually order an egg taco? Will this be some kind of scrambled egg taco, resembling something like a breakfast burrito-type thing. No, it’s a soft fried egg with a runny yolk, with salsa, etc. on top. Lots of fresh cilantro, and I don’t know what else, because I ate it so quickly. The best of the 3 that day. The cheese and avocado. Where did she get such big, fat, juicy, ripe avocados in Copenhagen? Great cheese. Nice garnish with the sliced radishes and cilantro. The lengua. Not boiled/stewed and diced, but chopped up and grilled on the griddle. Tasted great. I like this place… Next day. Go back to Hija de Sanchez? Ok! What’s on the menu? Cod skin, al pastor, grilled cheese. Let’s try one of each! The grilled Cheese. Was this going to be a taco with just some cheese? I pick up the taco. Looks like some grilled mushrooms and avocado. The tortilla feels and folds a little funny. What’s going on? I take a bite. Oh my god! It’s not a tortilla, she took some kind of a hard cheese(?) shredded, grilled it on the griddle, and it melts together like a tortilla, but it’s all cheese! And with the mushrooms, the avocado, the cilantro, it all comes together so well! So delicious! How come I’ve never had anything like this before? Is it common elsewhere? Where has it been all my life? The cod skin. Fried, with some light white sauce, and some salsa. Great flavor. Nice texture. Not too heavy. Great stuff. The al pastor. A little more traditional, with the chopped onions, light green sauce. Very good. They have churros? Sure, we’ll get an order. How cute, the pieces are so small! We take a bite. Fantastic! Fried perfectly, with just the right amount of crunch and chewiness. Some dried berries and some chocolate powder(?) lightly sprinkled over them, just melting a bit from the residual heat. These are great! My wife loved them so much, we ordered another. Okay, I loved them, too. Is the sweet avocado ice some kind of drink? No, a frozen dessert. Okay, we’ll try it. The chef prepares and finishes it, sprinkling the dried berries on top — so fancy and pretty! It’s a popsicle, but soft enough to bite into. Like a cold avocado cheesecake-tasting thing with light caramel sauce drizzled on top, and the dried berries. This is so good! I slowly savor this frozen treat, because I’m getting full, and I can’t order a 2nd one. One more grilled cheese taco, please, to finish off. It’s a shame I can’t get Mexican food like this in California. Really.

Hija de Sanchez is a Mexican-fusion taquería. They only serve three different tacos, changing every day. Some of the tacos are very close to traditional Mexican tacos like the taco with carnitas. However, the fusion comes in when you consider the taco with fried cod skin — something I’ve never seen before. The cod skin taco was interesting, but not great. I do prefer the more traditional tacos from Yuca Taco, but appreciate the effort to try and create something new and different. 100 kr. for three tacos is overpriced, but not different from the rest of the tacos spots in Copenhagen.

Delicious! Visiting from Southern California, I was very skeptical however that quickly changed. We ordered the egg taco with pork crackling and it was incredible. We then decided we must try the other two tacos of the day, the lengua(beef tongue) and avocado with fresh cheese. Both were also delicious. Quick and easy, I’d definitely recommend for a quick bite. The overall area is awesome too and full of other great places.

Best tacos I have tried in Copenhagen! So excited to see more places pop up in Copenhagen that serve Mexican food. When I saw Hija de Sánchez start popping up everywhere on my Instagram feed, I have to admit I was probably a little too excited. Having lived previously in California I really miss having access to so much Mexican food, especially tacos so my expectations for this place were very high and man did they not disappoint! I ordered their 3 taco combo which for this specific day were lengua, huevos rancheros, fresh cheese & avocado. Each were PHENOMENAL! I have nothing negative to say about any of them. They were all way too delicious, and now I already crave more. I did put some of their salsa from the bar onto my tacos without tasting it first and AHHH so spicy! So be careful. I have a pretty high tolerance to spice, but man it was spicy, at least the day I ate there. No sign warned me of it being spicy, so put it on your taco at your own risk: P

I was really sad when my favorite Mexican place Tacos Chilangos closed, but I can now call Hija de Sanchez my new home away from home. I had to go back twice in 1 day for the mole tacos, and I appreciate all the guest chefs she has. Although her menu isn’t big, with al the guest chefs and constantly changing menu, she gives you more than enough reason to stop by a few times a week.

Are you kidding me? I had to laugh when I saw the tiny amount of actual food on the 3 tacos I ordered. 100DKK? I don’t mind paying for good food, but this is as unreasonable as it gets. I was surprised by the dry tortilla, but even more surprised by the bland filling it contained. Although maybe I never got a chance to taste it properly as the 10 grams of meat seemed to evaporate in open space before my brain had a chance to register what was happening in my mouth. Seriously, the tortilla is big, why not fill it up some more? To make things somewhat positive, being a fan of anything crispy, I did enjoy the fish skin taco. I would have preferred it served on the side, though, as a snack and not in a tortilla, since things get a little too dry otherwise. My recommendation is to back away five steps from this truck and get juicy, flavorful tacos from Yuca Taco or walk all the way to Barburrito for best tacos in town.

For any foodie visiting Copenhagen, attempting to get into Noma is probably the first thing on their checklist. Although we weren’t able to get a seat, checking out Hija de Sanchez was as close as we could get — and boy, was it worth it. You may ask yourself, «What could be so special about a taco stand?», but let me assure you, this is no ordinary taco stand. It’s already special because its location in the Torvehallerne food hall is any foodie’s dream(so many delicious food stalls!!), but having Noma’s ex-pastry chef at the helm means tacos of the highest pedigree. I loved watching her and her team prep — they were smiling and laughing the whole time. You could tell they really loved their jobs. We were lucky to visit on a day with guest chef Matt Orlando, who is also ex-Noma(and current head chef of Amass, another highly recommended restaurant in Copenhagen), who served up the best fish taco I’ve ever had. The fish was perfectly fried, and despite a somewhat runny salsa, the tortilla didn’t break! The tortilla is also great for another reason — it’s made totally in-house, and they even sell the masa for you to take home. The price was a tad high(75kr for 2 tacos), but these tacos are WORTHIT. Overall a great experience — definitely worth a visit if you are at Torvehallerne. It’s situated outside and in between the two food halls. Get there early to avoid the line that inevitably forms once they open!

I like the small food stand very much. They are friendly and their tacos are awesome. You will almost always find a queue in front of the booth. Not because they are slow, but because the tacos are so great that everybody wants a taste.

Solid(but expensive) taco stand. We stopped by on an afternoon and had the breakfast tacos, which included an avocado taco, egg taco, and cheese quesadilla. The tortilla soft shells were really soft and moist, and the sauce that accompanied the ingredients had a nice kick. It was unfortunate that on the Sunday we went, this was the only item they had on the menu, and it’s a bit pricey. I think for non-Scandinavian food in the area, it would be hard for you to go wrong by eating the food here and the high quality ingredients.

Well. The universe has finally answered my prayers. I’m pretty sure Hija de Sánchez has the most authentic tacos in Copenhagen. And maybe also outside of Mexico, but I’m not really prepared to start that argument and follow it up with any sort of substantial proof. The price is a bit steep for tacos, not gonna lie. But I got the 3 for 100kr special and all three were absolutely divine in their own special way(complete with the part where bits and pieces can’t be contained by the perfect taco ‘shell’ — it’s soft, unlike the hard stale tacos Danes thought were the Real Deal — and fall out, to be retrieved, and savored, later), so I don’t exactly regret spending the money. They get pretty regular visits from Noma chefs to guest dress tacos also, so this is kind of like the best matchmaking foodgasm that could possibly exist in my world.

Finally, a taco stand in Torvehallen. Copenhagen, you’re almost completing your transformation! I wouldn’t have dreamt about this when I moved here in 2006 where the restaurants were mostly kebabs and pizzeria managed by people other than real Italians and where supermarkets closed at 6pm and the weekends. I love Hija de Sanchez’ taco. It’s a different kind from the ones Yuca Taco sells. Posh, perhaps? Whatever, it’s good. The carnitas ones are divine while the others are also amazing. It’s definitely worth the queue(to be fair if it was Mina K who was queueing, while I was just waiting for the food: P) but it was worth it. Now Torvehallen excites me even more — the perfect hangout place for foodies in Copenhagen

This place is the real deal. Forget the fact that the woman who runs this place used to work at noma; you can watch her work in this stall and see that she pays close attention to every aspect of the meal from rolling out and grilling tortillas to plating the tacos. It is easy to see that Rosio cares deeply for this food and puts her heart into it. Even though there is always a line and everybody in there is busy, she is always smiling and ready to chat with someone while working hard. As for the food, so far I have tried the chicken mole, fried cod skin, carnitas, and avocado cheese tacos and they have all been flawless. My favourite is probably carnitas but I am happy to taste whatever comes out of this kitchen. They also have Cholula, Tapatio, and Valentina hot sauces at your disposal, as well as some nice pickles. Don’t forget to grab plenty of napkins! P. S. You can buy corn tortillas here!

Believe the hype. Really. Even before Hija de Sánchez opened in Torvehallerne, it was already inundated with hype. Being the former pastry chef to one of the most famous restaurants in the world, Noma, will do that. I planned on being very critical due to all of the attention but Hija de Sánchez definitely lives up to the high expectations. I tried the 3 tacos they had for the day. The avocado cheese, cod skin chicharon, and the carnitas. All three were bursting with flavor but the carnitas was amazing. I absolutely love carnitas, I usually get it whenever I see it on the menu at any Mexican place but Rosio’s were out of this world, truly. Took me directly back to some of the best carnitas I’ve had in Southern California, but these even trumped those! How can you not love Oaxacan corn tortillas made fresh on the SPOT and they even had my all time favorite hot sauce, Tapatío, to top off your tacos with some extra spiciness. Just go. Wait in the long line and eat your heart out.

The dearth of awesome Mexican in Copenhagen has ended. Rosio Sanchez formerly of Noma has with the support of said former employer has moved out to provide her Mexican goodness. Mole, Carnitas and Crispy fish skin tacos with handmade tortillas are excellent. Horchata and boozy paletas also make for great taco partners. If Torvehallerne wasnt awesome already, it’s even better now…
