My search for the perfect gluten free burger brought me to one of Copenhagen’s nicest — Halifax in Larsbjørnsstræde. My mum and I arrived here at 8 pm, and the place was of course filled up with lots of happy people enjoying their burgers. The waitress, who was super nice and name was also Therese(that’s something isn’t it?) offered us a 20 minute wait for a table. We ended up accepting is and went for a little walk in the meantime. About 20 minutes later Therese called me and had our table ready. We were so hungry and excited! The menus arrived and the deal is simple — first choose a destination(burger style), then choose a bun, a patty, some sides and sauce, and extra toppings if you want. Some for an extra price, but overall very much was included in the original deal. I really liked it! Normally when I ask for something extra or different about a meal, I feel stupid and annoying. At Halifax this is the normal. Love it! They don’t have gluten free buns at Halifax, but for me that doesn’t matter as long as you can order a burger with a salad bun. I actually think that’s even better sometimes. Our burgers arrived after maybe 10 minutes and was so delicious. This is truly one of the best burgers I’ve had, and I fear that I will be dreaming of it way too often than i have the money to to go back there from Norway. The meat was super tender and perfectly salted, the sweet potato fries crispy and soft inside(ergo really fresh), and the aioli was just to die for. I tasted the coleslaw my mum ordered as well and it was super. The burger places in Oslo really needs to learn from this place! I will be back. Sooner than later probably.

Totally okay burger joint. Right in the center of the hipster neighbourhood but don’t let that turn you away.

I love the Halifax burger chain in Copenhagen. I reckon this was probably my 4th visit to this. Particular branch so i cannot explain why I haven’t reviewed it before. First the service — Our waiter was excellent and went above and beyond to keep us happy, including giving us the option, which we took, to move to a nicer table after we had ordered. My burger was even better than i remembered their burgers being. I went for the one with the Mexican name, being a sucker for the jalapenos. I really like the new brown buns that are now an option when building your burger. I would recommend the chipotle sauce. They have their own beers which i seem to remember from previous visits are ok, but didn’t especially grab my taste buds by the papillae! The AZ Ale No.16 was more forceful with me and is definitely a positive addition. The cartoon worm eating its way out of a ‘living’ cartoon cow’s’ head(in a chefs hat!) While proclaiming. ‘Yum’ has always fascinated me.

It’s like I stepped right out of Williamsburg and into this amazing burger joint. While the burgers are obviously American-inspired, this is a Danish creation from start to finish. The little touches are what make Halifax unique and fun; the logo and noir wall art, the Wes Anderson quotes and the actual menu itself. Some fantastic creativity at work here. But how are the burgers? SOGOOD. Although they default to well done, bless them for searing a rare thing of beauty. The Nakskov, with cheddar, bacon, fried onions, crispy fried pickles and remoulade damn near killed me. It’s huge, but so so good. The thick cut fries ain’t no joke either; with a side dipping sauce they’re maddeningly tasty. The only problem? How anyone finishes anything here without walking out in imminent danger of birthing an afternoon-ending food baby. I couldn’t eat the rest of the day. Burgers are 120−140kr($ 17 – 20USD) which would be crazy expensive in the states, but is just about normal for Copenhagen. I’ve seen other burger joints with ~100kr burgers, but I can’t attest to their quality. Danish hipsters rule.

Fantastic service. The waiters in this place are unbelievable and awesome. He served beer and wine to the customers while waiting outside across the street for a table. We will go back for sure.

Burgers were okay but not very special. Fries were very greasy and overall impression was that the food was too oily. Both me and my significant other experienced some discomfort later on in the evening. Not a fan.

I’m writing this from a tourist perspective :) For a start, know that the staff is really super nice. First thing I noticed was the smiles and the joyfulness. We had to wait a little because the restaurant was full, and they offered to wait there or to call us when a place would be available. It took five minutes before we could have a seat. They are also fully bilingual, and they take time to explain how the menu works. So it works in five steps, you first chose the style of burger you want(mainly, what you want in it). Then you choose your bun, your meat(or non meat, there are vegan options), then your fries(or salad) and finally the dip for the fries. I had the Palermo burger with beef and fries. The meal was ready in a few minutes, very quick service. The burger was awesome and quite big. Fries were good. Honestly I was quite satisfied with the meal, it’s exactly what I wanted /needed. It’s a little pricy, but as is almost everything in Copenhagen. It’s still totally worth it. And you won’t have this kind of service elsewhere. I recommend this place to any tourist who craves a real good burger.

I went here after my boyfriend had been talking about this place, his favourite burger place in Copenhagen. And we do love burgers :-) I was a bit disappointed whenwe entered the restaurant as I had expected something else than a worn down post-sportsbar with sticky tables. The service was however really good and our waitress attended us frequently although she was alone in the restaurant the entire time we were there. Therer were a lot of burgers to choose from and I went for the normal burger with fries while my friends had the one with goat cheese. The burgers were really good, not fantastic but really good. If it wasn’t for the interior I would give the place 4 stars but I hope they’ll spruce up the place in due time.

There’s something to be said for one’s first dining experience in a new city after hopping off a plane: Halifax, it turns out, was an excellent choice. I mean, sure, I could have gone straight for some local specialties, but it’d been at least 3 hours since breakfast, so burgers it was. The restaurant isn’t huge with a bunch of seating booths and smaller tables. It’s super relaxed though and I immediately felt like I’d chosen wisely in coming here. I usually only mention staff in passing, but my waiter was exceptionally warm and friendly and helped me overcome my reticent awkward Englishness pretty much straight away — simply put, really really nice people. The menu here is pretty straightforward: a selection of around 10 different burger types, a choice of bun, dips, and sides. I went for a Palermo(blue cheese, aioli, bacon, tomato) with chips and the chipotle mayo. Also, bear in mind that the standard cooking is well-done, but you can specify less-well if you’d like. This is a pretty good burger — it’s not a world beater, but pretty tasty and satisfying. Mine had a rye bun(you get to choose between that and original) which had a nice bite to it — as much as I like a good brioche bun, this one was good. I thought the chipotle mayo needed a little more kick, but the chips were excellent, thick cut but crunchy and not too greasy. Noms. Overall, a very solid burger which I’d be happy to have again. In all, it was around DKK155 which, from my other meals, seemed reasonably in line with my other meals. Oh, and the wonderful staff also prevented me from accidentally paying twice(tourist derp), so all the bonus stars.

New Yorkers, if you love decadent burgers with sensible sourcing of ingredients and fantastic vegan/vegetarian options — e.g. you swear by Bareburger, Halifax is a must do. How it works: a five-step menu lets you compose 1) burger style 2) patty 3) bun 4) side-dish 5) sauce. Drinks are separate. I enjoyed the Zurich style burger which mixed pickles and mushrooms over cooked onion. The vegetarian chickpea patty was fantastic-moist and hearty. Now, the bun was really quite something. There are two choices, traditional seed bun or the one you should go for. A darker bread with an interesting bun top. It was almost a bread, potato, pasta mix, lightly fried, crispy — amazing. Worked very well with the patty. Wife ordered the original with a beef patty and cheese. For sides we tried the potato wedges and the salad. Both were seasoned perfectly and were delicious. Portions are large by anyone’s standard. Atmosphere — hip, boutique diner. Good music, fun deco. Price-wise Copenhagen is expensive — so expect to pay DKK120−150 per person or min $ 20/person. Was worth it for us — stuffed and satisfied. CreditCards — swipe cards requiring signature are accepted. Tip on tipping — it is customary to round up the nearest DKK10 — e.g. if your bill was 243 kroen, you can ask the waitress to charge 250.

We were looking for a good place to eat in copenhagen and saw the reviews for Halifax and decided to give it a shot… we definitely made the right decision. The food is outstanding and the service is very good as well. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very casual and I highly recommend this place for everyone!

I can only agree with the other Scottish reviews. This place is great and the staff are truly super nice. The place was full and we were starving, the waiter offered to phone us to our UK mobiles no problem so we went to the next door bar(The living room) to wait. Half an hour later we were back and the burgers were ordered. Great options, they had two types of veggie burgers! They were so tasty, I did feel like I couldn’t move afterwards so yes, the portions are big. Good prices too.

Burgers R Us! It’s not just Glasgow Burger joints popping up everywhere it’s Copenhagen too! After a tough choice we decided to try here. Small and jumping a pure panic when we looked through the window so see how busy it was but we managed to nab the last table. I was right at the front door I was a bit worried it was going to be chilli but the über friendly staff hurried late comers in to keep the heat in so it wasn’t a problem. Speaking better English than I do the waitress helped us through the menu! I went for a smokey type burger with bacon and BBQ sauce. Then you choose your side — one big massive pot of mash potato, with a thin crispy layer over the top light fluffy and creamy in the middle. On the side an extra chunk of garlic butter to melt in. On top of all of that I choose the chipotle sauce! Worth the visit!

Burgers… Burgers… Burgers!!! Sometimes I think I eat nothing else with the amount of burger joints springing up in Glasgow these days. Still that did not stop me eating them in Copenhagen as well when I was there. Halifax is brilliant. The staff are the friendliest, most welcoming people I can literally ever remember serving me in a restaurant. They helped with the menu, they let me taste the beer before ordering and they generally looked after us really really well. The burger menu is great. It’s a build your burger type of place. You choose every part of it. From the style that includes toppings, to the bread, to the dip and the sides. I had a BBQ based lone star with mash and mayo. It’s all very reasonably priced and the food is top notch.

Hands down the best burgers in Copenhagen. I have eaten there many times and tried many different combinations, and I’ve never been disappointed. My personal favorite is the Mexican one with the unpronouncable name with the pea patty, but the Tokyo with chicken is a close second. Highly recommended!

Halifax is easily my default Go To for burgers in CPH. Admittedly, I have only ever tried The Liverpool(despite being lured in by other menu items, it’s difficult for me to deny bacon AND eggs on my burger patty), but my friends tell me the other burgers here are all fabs. Fries are killer, and if you’re opting for a low carb option, they do not skimp on the salad(read: it’s huge) Consistently reliable quality at all the Halifax restaurants(have been to Frederiksberg, Østerbro, and Centrum restaurants) and haven’t been disappointed yet. Sometimes there is a wait on weekend nights after about 7pm and they don’t take reservations, so plan accordingly.
