Yong’s Teochew Kueh

Old timer kueh shop in the heart of Katong. It’s seen so many other shops open to fanfare and close in disappointment through the years. The choices here are fairly simple: soon kueh, peng kueh, ku chye kueh and the other usual suspects. I usually try to eat in; though there are only two tables and no ambience to speak of, it saves me from the temptation of buying loads more home.
Peng kueh and ku chye kueh are my usual picks. They’re ok, not great, not terrible. Just comfort food that one goes to out of habit. The peng kueh skin is a little thicker than I like, while the ku chye is chopped more coarsely than I prefer. Aside from that, it makes a nice old school pick me up treat when one feels a little nostalgic. Plus, the kuehs are kind on the pocket.
Don’t bother parking here, it’s impossible. Just stop by the road, grab your stash and drive off.
