University at Buffalo, New York SIM

I was at first really apprehensive about pursuing my degree at UB via SIM. Apart from the social stigma of a ‘private university’, it just seemed a little uncertain if I would suit the American style of education or not. And in the end, I’d say that I am a proud graduate who thoroughly enjoyed my course of study.
There’s a good mix of local and overseas professors which I thought is a good exposure. You have the kind of teaching style that you’ve be accustomed for over the years of education at local schools, and you have overseas professors bringing in their perspectives on issues and news. I like that you get to negotiate with profs and you can speak your honest thoughts to most of them. They are willing to listen and make changes during the semester if it benefits everyone and make it an overall more enriching experience. The modules albeit limited as compared to University at Buffalo back at Buffalo, are quite diversified.
Last but not least, you’re not going to have long holidays as compared to peers studying at local university, as it’s a hectic 3 semesters per year thing. But that, in my humble opinion, builds you character and capacity along the way. I’m glad that I chose this route for my further education.

Been studying in this school for a couple of years and over the years — have grown to really appreciate the love the way things are conducted here. I like that we have a mix of local and foreign professors, a very diverse student body, and the style of education was very flexible and I found it very nurturing and supportive.
What I Love: It’s an American University in Singapore — so you get an American style education, in terms of presentation style, grading, etc., and you don’t need to spend as much; compared to living and studying in the US. You actually pay only ¹⁄₃ to ¼ of the fees (as it’s lodging that’s pricey, and expenses that add up), and you get great professors — and at the end of the day — you get a degree from the University of Buffalo. It’s easy to do student exchanges with UC Berkeley and Buffalo itself — you could also independently apply to do a semester or exchange with any other American University you wanna study at. So, it really works.
What I Don’t Love: Absolutely nothing! Don’t regret studying here and love it. After experiencing the British/​Singaporean style of education — it’s nice to have a change and experience a different way of learning.
