This. Place. Is. Amazing. Their signature collagen soup is another level, and the main reason why people queue around the shopping centre just waiting for a table here. So… it’s busy, and as many have indicated, you will have to wait for a table… but don’t give up! It’s totally worth it. The collagen soup — Bijin Nabe — comes with the freshest of vegetables, some skewered prawns, and some mushrooms. After melting the pot for around 10 minutes, throw in your veggies for a few more and dish up. It’s an experience to remember. Wash the whole thing down with a sparkling sake, and you have a meal made in heaven. 5 stars, with a bullet.

A tasty, healthy, and reasonably priced($ 25++ per person) Japanese steamboat. How often do you get all three at the same time? The problem is that it’s just so hard to get a table here. Arrive later than 5:30pm, even on weekdays, and you’ll have to wait over 45 minutes to be seated. The main draw is the steamboat, which comes with a thick and hearty chicken collagen soup base. The accompanying ingredients are fresh and of quality. They only serve chicken ramen on weekday lunches, with the same delicious soup base. Their marketing claims the soup is made from nothing but organic Japanese chickens and salt. I can believe that — it’s rich but yet clean and refreshing. And tastes of chicken. And salt. They’ve got a cute customer loyalty programme where you get a name card describing you as their«assistant manager». You get promoted to «manager» and beyond as you visit. The rewards are decent — on the second visit, I was offered a choice of edamame or fries. They have high chairs for your toddlers, and mine just loves drinking the soup.

They don’t serve the collagen soup for lunch on week days, only for dinner. On weekends, you can order it for lunch and dinner. The broth is thick and wholesome with full smell and taste of chicken. In fact, we didn’t need to order anything else other than the soup and it’s accompaniment. The vegetable accompanying the soup is organic and you can taste their sweetness. Besides eating, for the ladies, they perceive that they are getting a collagen infusion(hopefully to the face and not tummy) whilst they are eating. Fantastic!

When I was first introduced to the idea of collagen pudding, I assumed it was some newfangled skin treatment that«all the Hollywood stars» were obsessing over. When I learned it came from jidori chickens, and that you were meant to enjoy it by eating it, I nearly lost my breakfast. That is, until I sipped my first spoonful of this rich, creamy, formerly-gelatinous gluttony. It was love at first slurp and I’ll never turn back. Known for its hotpot, Tsukada Nojo was pleasantly calm and quiet at lunchtime when they serve ramen using their same signature rich-as-all-get-out chicken collagen broth. And apparently in the same fashion as their hotpot ritual, when your soup comes out, all of the toppings are on the side and you are encouraged to taste the soup through each stage of its evolution, sampling different flavours as you drop in greens, cabbage, egg, chicken, seaweed, and yuzu rind. The organic jidori chicken was exceptionally flavourful and I could have eating about 10 more strips of it on its own… but I guess I’ll have to save that for my impending«beauty pot» experience.
