Helped organize Fashion Week earlier this year and saw the runway show for Reckless Erika and it put a smile on my dour lack-of-sleep face. Models were sent strutting down a grass-carpeted runway in asymmetrically cut gingham pieces with the audience cheering them on — a good dose of stylish fun. Checked out the shop after the event and I really like the direction they are going in. They do have collections in monochrome palettes but their choice of prints are a nice touch to any wardrobe. The pieces are also affordably priced for the quality and cut. All I can say is… go local!

If you like formless, asymmetrical and baggy clothes, Reckless Erika is perfect. Think of it as a more up class and edgy version on m) phosis, which started off somewhat like Reckless but ended up being very mass market. It’s exactly that sort of dressed and pants that draws me in. A sexy woman is one who is exudes beauty and confidence and it’s hard to do that when you are squeeze into an itsy bitsy outfit threatening to explode or expose any moment. The material is very comfortable, most of which are made of thick cotton jersey. It’s great for our weather. It’s not too casual in fact. Somehow the design and how it falls on the body makes it look more upmarket. All you need are a few accessories and you are ready to rock the party. Their dresses has taken me from indie cafes to the beach and then to a fine dining restaurant. This is one of the few shops that I visit in Orchard Central. Definitely worth a stop, especially if you want to avoid looking like all the rest who shops at Editors Market.

The Reckless Shop, perhaps better known by the brand name Reckless Ericka, is one of the more interesting local designer shops that I like to check out. Their clothes tend towards bold solid colours or clean graphic prints, so while they are simple, they’re always cut interestingly and tend towards a more edgy look. Reckless Ericka is made up of its more expensive designer main line which has both men’s and women’s wear, but it also has a cheaper diffusion line ODDS by Reckless Ericka, it’s more casual streetwear sister line for ladies with prices ranging from $ 39 — $ 89. Most of the ODDS pieces are made of jersey, which can be a bit clingy but the material is very, very comfortable to wear. The main thing I love about the ODDS range is how multi-functional the pieces are — dresses can be long/short/skirts, tops can have long/short sleeves… do give the shop assistants(always hovering nearby) a chance to demonstrate the various ways you can wear a piece of clothing! The shop is hidden in the corner of the 2nd floor of Orchard Central(in the end that’s closer to Killiney Road), alongside other great local brands Black Market and Sabrina Goh, so if you love your indie or local brands, do pop down to this corner to check it out.
