This time back in Spore, I was looking to stay in Chinatown so it became a matter of which small place to pick! The Inn sort of stuck out so here I went. Located in a common row shophouse from the old days, this 3-story inn is a nice change for people, like myself, who are used to the more common modern facilities. Entering the front, you are greeted with a few classic furniture, vintage items(that phonograph…) and carpet runner. One thing I liked is the lighter overall color of the entry here. The stairs are a bit on tiny side for big feet. There are some old B&W shots from all over spread out upstairs. The entry side/former(?) hallway looks like temp storage and has vintage saloon style swing doors. I took a small room, which mainly face the street, and on the 3rdFL for me. The bed can be a bit firm for some folks but it wasn’t bad to me. The TV cable was decent; you can watch stuff like Chinese soaps, neat local shows and tennis. The ceiling AC unit was great; I split time between the AC and other fan settings. In the cabinet is the mini-fridge, coffee(owl?)/tea(lipton?) tray, a shelf, the safe and shirt closet with spare blanket. The safe wasn’t unlocked from past visitors… oh well. The fridge isn’t used alot; that or they(male gentleman) don’t clean it(the top door shelf had mold spots). The 2″ crack betwen the cabinet and wall is dusty with spider webs; ‘only saw 1 in 10 days and no bites. After a few days, I realized my phone wouldn’t dial local — or any other room the same side as me. Long story short, I declined to wait for this phone line repair and moved downstairs to a same room. This room felt like it was better tended to. The fridge was clean & chilled and the cabinet gap was clear. The daily housekeeping seems to be the shower items, bins and towels. If you’re quite fine with conserving(or naturally do so), then please inform housekeeping or front desk. There is no sign or placard as found in modern hotels that assist in resource conservation. —-TL:DR generally itemized — - Pros: –Great Chinatown location –One block from MRT entrance –One block from Chinatown Complex(good cheap eats & variety; 24hr laundromat next door) –Staff is mostly friendly & patient –Charming old vibe(main reason I booked here) –Free Wi-Fi Cons: –The [smallest] room felt a bit stuffy w/or w/o AC on. –Toilet is cumbersome to use if you’re tall near 6 feet. I actually think it would be better if the shower slider door opened on the toilet side instead of the sink. –No elevator. I didn’t care; this is more as an FYI for you guys. It’s an old building so provisions for a lift weren’t a priority back in the day, I imagine. –Consistent/thorough cleaning of cabinet, shower and mini-fridge.
