I came here one evening around 10pm sat at the bar and ordered food. I ordered the chicken skewers that are chargrilled and delicious. They give you 4 pieces of chicken seasoned very well. Next time I would get something on the side with it maybe French fries. The owner Ivan and I had a great conversation about everything and anything for almost 2hrs. I really loved all the suggestions he made and how hospitable he was. Definitely a westernized bar cool ambiance. I would recommend it 100%.

This is a great example why I think Unilocal is awesome: I would have never come here without it but I am so glad I discovered this place! First time I came here for a CMYE and I enjoyed very much the vibe this place has and found the staff super friendly. However, I did not review as places sometimes are more customer oriented when they know that there is a bunch of Unilocalers in the house. But when I came again recently after Sunday brunch, I found that their service is consistently good and the beers are cheap for Singapore standards(S$ 5 for a half pint their house brews). They have a good selection of drinks for the non-beer drinkers too, the food looks great and the atmosphere feels just right to me. I will certainly be back to try more of their food and beer! Recommended!

Came here for a UYE, my colleagues wanted to tag along after work. I did not come for the drinks but was ready to feast after IF /low carbin’. The menu is pretty extensive, offering an array of entrees to satisfy just about everyone; pasta, burgers, steak, fish and chips, pizza, and Western-style appetizers. Because I put myself on low carbs and strictly no fried foods that week, I ordered the ribeye w/foie gras. Super rare. My 2 colleagues ordered a ribeye and a chicken burger w/an order of potato skins to share. Service was fast because I don’t recall having a conversation. Next thing I know, our order was brought out to the table. I cannot comment for my colleagues but I enjoyed my entrée very much; the ribeye was rare, tender, and seasoned just right. The foie gras was melt-iful. I could have easily ordered 2 and finished. An intimate upstairs dining and lounge area would be the perfect spot for small gatherings w/good food, drinks, and secluded from the rest. I love that they accept MasterCard/Visa but for those that wants to open a tab w/o sitting at the bar may find it annoying because my best, Jerry had to pay for his drink each time because they couldn’t leave his tab open.

What a great place which is so unexpected on this stretch of Jalan Besar. I came here to the Community Manager Event and loved the place. I can only comment on the upstairs room which is accessed through the door next to the main entrance. As I walked through the doors, I instantly loved the décor — super rustic, industrial, funky — the sort of place you would see in New York — cool, very cool. The wooden tables and chairs and warm, soft, dim lighting gave it a classy ambience that also had a comforting feeling of being at «at home». I loved how that everything in this place had a story — the names of the drinks, the name of the place, the décor — it is living and breathing local history — ask the staff — they are super friendly and will love to talk about it. The local beers were good and reasonable at happy hour prices. Give them a shot. Be warned though, some of the brews are limited editions and may not feature twice!

I’m definitely bringing my friend’s here! Came here with some of my Uni friends for some catch up/philosophical chitchat after dinner. We, obviously, tried a couple of their house brewed beers, along with some sides. I had a pale ale while Francis had a stout. For someone who doesn’t really take stout, I liked it a little too much(although I still feel the nitrogen infused stout I had in the states still kicked ass). We ordered a mix of fries — we had the truffle(truffle mayo), curry(curry mayo, sounds gross but it was really worth loading extra calories), & seaweed fries. I really liked the curry mayo because it was extremely fragrant! Setting is definitely good for big groups.

Tiger beer isn’t exactly the greatest beer on the planet. Those looking for an intimate, friendly place in Singapore to get a great craft beer will love 1925. There’s a street level pub potion and an upper level lounge for a proper sit down. This place has at least two micro brews on tap plus a couple interesting imported drafts. Selection is rotated often.

I came for a late lunch and found an affair of the heart. I ordered the burger, paid an extra $ 4.00 up charge to truffle my fries, and had«If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don’t Want To Be Right» running through my head with each bite I took. I will come back to you, my darling.

I like the rustic wooden furniture and the giant wall painting on the upper floor. Their cocktails is a must try, I had the Fitzgerald which is very refreshing. My colleague had their own-brew beer and had to get another one. I’m not a beer guy but it’s good from the few sips I had. 2nd best pulled pork burger! Service is excellent with very attention staff.

Located along the busy Jalan Besar road, the interesting frontage makes The 1925 Microbrewery & Restaurant hard to miss. . If you drive, there is a small public car park just before the venue. The turn in into this car park is easy to miss so make sure you keep all the way to right as you reach the venue or you will need to try your luck along the kerbside parking spaces. There are 2 levels. The décor on the ground floor is industrial hip. Walls looks like it had tiles hacked off. The ceiling has little pieces of masking tape that were left there from a previous event. Including the car exhaust inhaling alfresco seating outside the main front door, the ground floor seats about 30. You enter the upper level via a typically prewar-shophouse-narrow flight of stairs. Walls are also unfinished with an interesting looking mural dominating 1 wall. This level seats about 50. I was there from on a Friday evening, 6.00pm to 7.30pm and there were tables available during the entire time that I was there. First, the beer. There were a total of 4 beers available and all were pale ale. I tried 3 of them(Yellow Van, Ghostship & BodeBrown). Off the three, the Ghostship is a little more interesting 1st note. However, the follow up notes are much more ordinary. In fact, for me, all the 3 beers were nothing to write home about. The outlet does not serve any other beer and that makes the variety of beer available sadly lacking. For a place that has Microbrewery in its name, to have only 4 beers available is really misleading. And to have all the 4 beers all pale ales, well, /shrug/. I would probably not come here for the beers when a hawker stall in Chinatown has way more selection available, albeit them being the bottled variety. The food, however, is excellent. We ordered 3 items off the food menu. You can tell that much thought has gone into working out the recipe of each dish. For example, the Hawaiian pizza we ordered was made with pineapple, excellent mozzarella cheese, salami instead of ham and topped with sparingly with alfalfa. The use of salami and alfalfa was an excellent twist on the usual Hawaiian we have come to expect and the flavours came our exceedingly well. The food was also very well made. The prawns in our King Prawn pasta was cooked just right. It has the sweetness and crunchiness of prawns that is just made passed the point of being uncooked. The pasta was also very well done, if not exactly al dente, with the sauce coating the individual strands well. The plating of the items were also very good. The truffles fries came on a wooden serving board, spilling out a cardboard fries box. The plating certainly added the visual dimension to an already very good plate of fries. The fries were crunchy and maintained that crunch throughout our dinner. At S$ 8.00, this is one of the best valued truffle fries I have taken in a long while. We were a party of 2 and our bill came up to S$ 76.51. Our menu selection were somewhat limited to seafood selections due to dietary restrictions.

First visit to this place was for an Elite Event. We had a super awesome time getting to know about other Unilocalers over beer, cocktails and finger food. So I decided to drop by again with my friends. We got there quite late. Kitchen is already closed. But Ben(if I remember his name correctly from the event) still took time to explain to us about their drinks on taps and the ingredients. The guest tap I had that night was interesting and rather feminine since it was tangerine flavour and wasn’t bitter. My friends’ beers, which I forgot their names, were pretty bitter and nothing out of the ordinary. Pardon my lack of knowledge in beers. ;p Overall, my friends are pretty impressed with the service and concept. The only downside of it is that we felt that their closing time is tad too early. ;)

I wish that I could give this place a glowing review but given the experience we had, I can’t help but give it only 2 stars. The primary reason for that is because many of us in our party were not particularly thrilled with some of the beers. The IPA and the 6.22 were both disappointing and the only beer that seemed decent was the American pale ale. Our party consisted of 17 people so they gave us the large table upstairs and away from the main restaurant. That resulted in privacy but offered nothing in terms of ambiance. Dinner was at 6:30pm on a Monday and we were disappointed to learn that the kitchen was sold out of chicken skewers, oysters, the bacon dish and the fish and chips. I could understand running out after 9pm on a weekend but 86ing 4 items at 6:30 is ridiculous. The service made up for some of the disappointments but the straw that broke the camel’s back was when our friend who orders the fish and chips was asked to order something else and then didn’t receive her food until well after we had finished our meals. My other friend who ordered a hamburger also had to wait a long time for his food to arrive. Blame it on the kitchen, not the service staff.

Found this place thanks to Unilocal.I was both disappointed and glad I stopped in here. The disappointment was that they only had 1 beer on tap. The rest were imports from England which is great but I was in Singapore. I recognised some of them from my London trip last year. If you are a local and have a craving for some English beers, this place is definitely worth a stop. As a visitor, I wanted something more local. Other than that, the staff is very friendly. They explained the different beers they had on tap and the menu. They had some happy hour items but decided on some skewers. The chicken skewers were excellent. They were not dry or overcooked. A little off the beaten path(at least I thought it was) but an easy place to find. A definite place to stop in and try.

Went here for lunch and a few beers. The food was very nice — the fry sampler(truffle fries, seaweed fries and wasabi fries) was a generous portion — tasty, too. Also had the pork belly — good stuff. I tried their house brew Small Monster — not a bad IPA — a it sour, but nice citrus tones.

Went there for dinner and drinks. Made the rounds on their beer selection with 5 beers in tap, three of their own brew and two guest brews. 1925’s own dark ale had nice chocolate and coffee creaminess and the IPA was crisp with mild floral notes, balanced bitterness with a smooth finish. The ginger beer had a strong ginger bite so if you like teh halia this might be worth trying. It tasted a little too much like medicine for me. The pan seared fish in pesto was delicious. The fish and chips was normal, nothing special. Will definitely return for the beer. This place has the potential to raise the standards of craft beer in Singapore.

Let me qualify my review first. I was there as a guest at a private event, so not truly a paying patron. But the beers and food were so good I had to try more than was on offer. For the food, the roast pork was lip smacking good, I really wished I had more. The smoked duck, man, to die for. Good thing we got this on our own, so we didn’t have to share. At this point I should speak about the beer, because the food is meant to be paired with the beers, and just ask the wait staff which beer goes with what, because they know their stuff. I found out the hard way, when I stubbornly chose my own beer when I should have just listened — remember the Yellow Van goes with the duck. They had 5 home brews on tap, from lager to dark ale, all very drinkable. The kind of place you want to go after a hard, or hot day, or both.

1925 is definitely a good place to satisfy one’s craving of brewed beers as it has a broad range to offer. Food quality is good and reasonably priced as well. Staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is definitely conducive for a wind down during the weekdays. One thing to improve is probably that the menu needs to be reviewed regularly, to add more variety and selection instead of renaming old items to falsely portray that there was a menu review. The limited selection of food ranging from appetisers to main courses might not encourage customers to become regulars unless if they are really into the beers — which in contrary are reviewed very regularly. Notwithstanding, as mentioned, the quality of menu items currently offered is good.

After seeing a feature on TV and reading rave reviews of the place, I was pretty disappointed during my visit. The food was average — I don’t think it really deserved all the hype — and the portions veered towards the inadequate side. The service however, was rather good, and the ambience as well. But the unavailability of adequate parking spaces, and the average food, means I wouldn’t really be enticed to return without an extremely special reason.

The hidden GEM of Jalan Besar! Tucked away in an old Chinese shop house(was told it was once an old hardware store back in the day), this restaurant has«trendy» written all over it. The interior is one that I would characterize as Industrial lined-walls accented by beautiful dim lighting that is so often found in high-end establishments. Make no mistake about it, this is a family-run establishment. 1925 is a special year as it is the year that the owner’s grandfather was born and thus where the restaurant gets its now famous name. The two home-made brews, a light ale and the dark ale, also have special names: the 622 for the dark ale and the yellow van for the light ale. I would advice that you speak to the owner about how these names came about as the story is pretty cool! OHYES, I almost forgot… the beers are REAL good and fit perfectly with whatever the kitchen whips up. I, particularly, am a huge fan of the dark ale. As for the food, I ordered the truffle fries, Chargrilled Beef Burger, and the Tyrwhitt’s Wings. I’ll go over each of these dishes one by one. The Fries… Oh the FRIES… Imagine McDonalds fries(best fries in the world by the way) with truffle and other sorts of goodness on top… Dare to say the best FRIES in Singapore… there you go i said it. The Chargrilled Beef Burger was Damn good La. Be sure to ask for the homemade barbecue sauce and spread it underneath the bun for extra umph. Lastly, the Tyrwhitt’s Wings… Who doesn’t like Teriyaki infused chicken wings. Will definitely come back for more, especially for brunch. I hear they have Beer Battered Pancakes. Say what??? Yes Beer Battered Pancakes!

Frankly, I’m surprised no one’s Unilocaled about these guys yet! Unilocalers, meet 1925. They’re a new microbrewery on Jalan Besar, and believe me when I say they’re a lovely group of folks. They offer 2 brews, which they’ve made on the premises, in addition to a few brews from fellow microbrewery Brewerks. I’ve visited a few times on my own, sticking to drinks, and after finally convincing the hubs to give this place a try, I took the opportunity to try some of their menu. Their truffle fries are the perfect starters, and I suggest you devour them as soon as they’re served, as that’s when they taste the best! The wings are also one of my favourites. They’re doused in teriyaki sauce, which makes them a bit messy, but when garnished with sesame seeds and spring onions, they’re finger lickin’ good! The only thing that was a miss for me was the harimau prawns. I sampled Miguel’s chargrilled beef burger, and let’s just say that you should order this if you’re super hungry as it’s an American sized patty. Super juicy and adorned with mushrooms and bacon, it’s every carnivore’s dream! It might also be another dish that you shouldn’t let sit too long, as the juice from the meat might make the bottom bun a bit soggy. The beers? Simply put, I love them. Right now, I’m a fan of their dark ale, the 622. It’s a little sweet, has the perfect mouth feel*, and the name is a reference to the block that the owner’s grandfather lives in! But if you’re not as enthusiastic about beer as I am, no worries; there’s a menu full of cocktails, and you can also get your coffee fix as well. Just like The Avengers, Iron Man, and The Guardians of the Galaxy… I will return. – *Brooklyn Nine Nine, anyone?
