Walked by recently and it’s closed down! Not entirely sure if it’s just renovation but there were no signs.

I like Sauce for it’s open air seating areas and the cheap food and drinks. Asahi bottles at $ 5 nett. You can also get a pint of Asahi on tap at $ 8 nett during happy hour until 9pm. The happy hour deal also allows you to buy certain snack items for $ 5. I would recommend the fries. There are other promotions for different days of the week so check the menu or ask your waiter about those. Sauce is also great for hanging out in big groups as it has many long tables and a large circular couch area in a sort of private alcove area. The open concept makes the place feel quite comfortable and spacious.

Cheap booze always gets a nod from me — especially when its a quality, bubbly, Asahi Dry(still in a bottle), at $ 5 nett! — and Sauce offers more than just attractive all-night-long digs at Singapore’s heavy alcohol tax, just look around! You can see the Marina Bay Sands Hotel(and even the various camera flashes from tourists on the top, at Ku De ta), the ever-changing coastline, sink your teeth into a pretty alright Fish & Chips with Bonito Flakes($ 18) or a Cheeseburger with fries and a small salad($ 14) while taking advantage of the spacious outdoor terrace setting and the much more tolerable night temperature… Sauce is definitely my pick for the next best hang out spot at Esplanade… yum!

Sauce is my new favourite place. Besides being in the Esplanade, which means it has a great view of the river and the Singapore city skyline, which is pretty spectacular at night, it has amazing prices. $ 5NETT for an Asahi all night long? I’m IN. It has a pretty campy setup with bright signs and fake astroturfy grass, which I also like. I haven’t tried the main courses, but the Truffle Fries are yummy stuff at just $ 7.00(regular fries, which are also awesome, are a dollar or so less) are my favourite thing there. Could be more truffly, but at that price I’m not complaining. One problem I have with Sauce is the service. The staff are really nice and genuine, but I’ve had several experiences of waiting for a long time just to place an order, and more times where I’ve had to wait really long just to get my beer. Even when it’s not very crowded. This doesn’t bother me too much, but when you’re getting a quick drink with friends before a concert, this gets really annoying. Besides that, definitely check out Sauce, the new pub by the Butter Factory! :)

Per bottle of Asahi for $ 5! Now that I’ve gotten your attention, Saucebar is WOOTS! I went there with my friends a couple weeks ago on a Saturday night, to celebrate one friend’s birthday. We chose Sauce because of two reasons: — My ex-coursemates, who went in a large group of 30 pax had great fun there. — A great view of the FIREWORKS from the NDP rehearsals. How can anyone not like FIREWORKS?! That’s not the point. But at Sauce, you can have the FIREWORKS while chomping on tingling tacos. I remember biting into the Chilli Beef Tacos($ 15) halfway and then the sky went shooting with colourful sparks, accompanied by the light explosive sounds. If this were a Japanese animé I’d be flying through the clouds right there and then. My camera and I took less than one minute to reach the edge of the Esplanade waterfront to start snapping away like a crazy tourist. The place where we were seated was semi-alfresco(if there’s such a term) — outdoors but sheltered. The ground was covered in faux greenery, creating a very garden-like relaxed atmosphere. Despite it being a bar, there was no loud music playing to disrupt our crazy conversations. Then again, maybe it was because Sauce is just next to the Esplanade waterfront amphitheater, and a local band was scheduled to play that night. The food was good. As you already know my Chilli Beef Tacos was complete fireworks in the mouth, my friends mostly ordered Fish & Chips($ 18)(boring people) and Mentaiko Pasta($ 14). Mentaiko — marinated roe, goes very well with pasta in the Japanese-fusion style. One of us brought a cake beforehand; the Sauce staff were nice enough to help us keep the delicious choc cake in the fridge AND provide us utensils to eat the cake that was NOT bought in Sauce. They were attentive and patient too — each time a new person joined the table they repeated the day’s promotions systematically.

Sauce is an open-air bar at the Esplanade. Happy hour is until 9pm and Asahi’s are served at $ 5 nett. Upon arrival we promptly ordered buckets of beer and truffle fries. I went there on a Tuesday night to celebrate a friend’s birthday and there was a live band that played great songs(but were only there til 9.30 or 10pm). The singer delivered pleasant renditions of newer hits such as «Pumped-Up Kicks» as well as some of my old-school favourites like the Stone’s «Wild Horses» as well as Janis Joplin’s «Take another Little Piece of My Heart». That pretty much won me over already. There’s a smoking area which is carpeted with some strange artificial looking grass and several non-smoking areas. The chairs and tables were laid out spaciously and there was definitely plenty of room to accommodate our group of about fifteen. Our group initially chilled out at a circular couch area which was slightly separated from the rest of Sauce before moving on to a high table at the smoking area. Despite being a Tuesday night, the place was fairly crowded, although space never felt like an issue. The servers were attentive and friendly throughout the evening as well, which is another bonus point as many bars seriously lack available staff.

It was quite an impromptu thing when some friends and I decided to grab a drink at Sauce. I think we were walking around esplanade and saw this cool area with artificial grass and funky chairs and we thought it looked like a good place to chill at. I must say I quite like the outdoor seating quite abit. On a good day, it’s quite cooling. Nevertheless, they still provide fans for those sitting outside. Now, on to the good part. It’s 5 bucks for a bottle of Asahi. Yes, just $ 5. It’s a pretty good price for beer if you ask me. My friend ordered the Sauce burger and she seemed to really like it. I will probably head back there to get a taste of it since I was too full to stomach any food that night.
