I think I have a new favorite haunt in town! Although not for the exceptionally frugal, this place is almost like the ultimate man cave. It has an exceptional selection and range of whiskeys, a very selection of good cigars(and a smoking room) and good food. Is there more to a dude’s life? As other have commented, the whiskey is not cheap but you get what you pay for. If with a group, the best route to go to buy a bottle. They are helpful and can suggest unique choices for your tastes — we even stumped a Scottish co-worker by try a new whiskey from India. They have excellent nibbles and can order a full Japanese menu for the place next door. Everything we tried off the appetiser menus wears excellent(I especially liked the canapés and wings). Although I did not try the cigar room, I will best time. A sign indicates that there is a small cutting($ 15 I think) BUT that is waived if you spend more that $ 50 there(which is VERY easy to do). Short review — great drinks, great eclectic clientele and a quirky location(with a layout that somehow works). Love it!

Well, as I am prone to do when I first arrive in a new city I go and have a look for a place for a drink(even if it happens to be at midnight, as was the case when I first arrived in Singapore). Anyway, after checking into my hotel I decided to go and check this place out, especially since it was pretty much in the same complex. Me, well, all I wanted was a beer, but as it turns out this place doesn’t sell beer, it sell’s whisky. Okay, I don’t mind a drop of whiskey every so often, however I really wanted a beer. Yet, the owners of this establishment where just so nice that I simply could not turn down the offer of a quick drink. Problem was that this place is not cheap, and when it comes to whiskey the theoretical sky is the limit. However not only was he kind enough to recommend to me a pretty decent drop, he also recommended one that was not going to blow my budget the first night I arrive. Oh, he also does cigars, and don’t be surprised to see some guys sitting out the front sucking on some fat cubans.

Small, quaint little bar with a huge whiskey selection and a small Cuban selection of cigars. I smoke mostly Gurkas and local(CA) cigars, but the Montecristo Habana I selected was quite light and tasty They didn’t have the Yamazaki or Bushmills I was pining for, but the nice barkeep selected a slightly sweet, slightly smoky whiskey that was really quite good. The cigar room was nice and cool, the leather chairs were super comfy, and it was very quiet and could be left to my thoughts. Would definitely recommend for a quiet night of cigars and whiskey. Not really big enough for a boys night, but a smaller group would have a nice time.

i guess i have to take the risk of being labelled an alcoholic with back to back reviews of bars. but i guess that just comes with the job of liking a place enough to write a review about them, almost immediately? a confluence of a talk thread post and a whatsapp conversation brought me here. a simple question on cigar bar /lounges and a completely separate talk of where to have a tipple after a long service award ceremony. a plain comment about how i should just stick to drinking whisky as it is the one and only drink that doesn’t leave me with a hangover the next day. inevitably, the name«quaiche» popped up. what??? Unilocaled it, no joy. googled it and realized it was a typo, it should be «quaich» and pronounced quake. a special kind of shallow two-handled drinking cup or bowl in Scotland. so it is no wonder then that most of the whisky that you will find here is of scottish descent. and so it is almost arrogantly frown upon if you should ask for something japanese. they are traditional as such. but you are more than welcome to order japanese food from either nagae or nanjya monjya. but not if you are happy, like i was, with their simple bar snacks like jamon iberico bellota, fried octopus and crispy river shrimps, no, not from the singapore river conveniently located behind. you can even order steak, quick seared on a hot plate and dashed with truffle oil. but i digress. the whisky is the reason why you are here. or the cigar. but i’m no aficionado of either. but i do like the subtly warm burning sensation of whisky that glides ever so smoothly down my pipes and lubricates it. the whisky menu here, does read like an encyclopedia. and me like a child in kindergarten. but not to worry. the knowledgeable ladies in the house will connect you with the right whisky just as easily and quickly as you would connect with the internet on their free wi-fi. it’s clean, easy to get a table, frequented mainly by regulars. although i have been told that the ladies from zouk do overflow here more often than not. so, the next time you want to admire a maserati whilst sipping distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash, do check quaich out!
