Impromptu dinner date with the bestfriend. We were craving for some hot stoned sharks fin soup(yes, I understand I’ll probably get a lot of flak for this review). However, as the outlet in Ion was closed, we decided to go down to the one in Marina Bay financial centre. Parking was relatively cheap; $ 3+ for the first 4 hours after 1800hrs. Had the hot stone sharks fin soup; they have two portions — $ 58& $ 70+. The only difference is in the amount of fin you actually get, otherwise there is no visible difference. The soup broth was boiled overnight and was the perfect temperature & taste. I’ve never had anything like it! Definitely wouldn’t mind coming here again!!!

This may be the best Peking duck that can be had in Singapore. Just as you step out of the lift that brings you to this hidden restaurant, you’ll see the brick oven used to roast the duck. Here they use apple tree wood, which is supposed to give the roasted meats a unique fragrance. The chef brings the whole roasted duck to your table and carves it before your very eyes. Most places would only serve the skin, but here they serve it three ways, firstly the skin to be eaten on its own(they recommend a little sugar to go with it), next the thigh meat carved into slices each with a slice of skin to be eaten on its own to taste the apple tree wood flavor, and finally the breast meat to be wrapped in rice flour crepes and garnished with sweet sauce, cucumbers and spring onions. I hear that this is the way that Peking duck is served in Beijing. Tip: You should book ahead and reserve a duck to avoid disappointment.

Our go-to place, other than the one in Paragon, when we crave Peking duck $ 89(?) in Singapore. The duck skin is nice and crisp and the meat tender. We mostly go here for the quiet atmosphere, upscale interior décor unlike that of typical Chinese restuaraurants, and superb service. The one in paragon is just as good, but a bit on the noisy side with inattentive waiters.

Paradise Pavilion is under the Paradise Group that also owns Taste Paradise and Paradise Dynasty. In order to access this place, you will have to find the ONE elevator that will whisk you the second floor where the restaurant is. You will be greeted by a rather modern east meets west design where if you are not very familiar with the name of the place, you will think you’ll be having french food. until the waitress in a cheongsam get up approaches you and you see Peking Ducks hanging behind a glass room with furnaces to show you that yes, they do take their Peking Ducks out fresh from the oven literally. We were ushered into a private room as this was a family gathering and we were served course by course. The view was beautiful as we were facing an open space where people were playing Frisbee. Our appetizers were scallops with crabmeat. which were delicious. Followed by a big bowl of shark’s fin soup. which the taste is on par with the one I have tasted in Bangkok nearly 5 years ago. I never thought I will taste such good shark’s fin ever in Singapore after trying the one in Bangkok. Our Peking Duck was wheeled into the room where the chef proceeded to carve out the duck piece by piece and wrapping it nicely for us. We were given the skin to go with the sugar as well. The beef was also deliciously cooked. Lobster noodles were served plate by plate to each one of us. on each plate was a bunch of noodles with mushrooms on top and half a lobster at the side and I had aloe vera with lime juice as my choice of dessert. It’s definitely one of the best meals I have had in Singapore but sadly this is one of those once in a while occasions it is not very cheap. But it was worth it and nice.
