NTUC Fairprice

The NTUC FairPrice on Killiney Road is not a charming store. The store itself is very cramped and difficult to navigate, both due to inefficient layout and too many customers. It does also not help that staff seem to be standing around in inconvenient places. Actually staff here seem to do more standing around and talking to each other than talking to or helping customers. In general the service is not great here, neither very friendly nor helpful.
Often price tags are also not correct or completely missing and it has happened more than once that products are out of stock. Looking at what I written so far it does not sound very attractive at all but there are some redeeming features and I would say the main one is price. They are usually substantially cheaper than the main competitor cold storage. Especially fruit and vegetables but also meat is almost always cheaper and sometimes even half the price compared to the other option. While I do not always enjoy going here it is still worth it.

Service at meat counter quite disappointing. I saw that they are selling some chicken breast and i went up to asked if they can help to minced the chicken breast for me. 1^st reply was ‘don’t know’. Hence i ask them to check. 2^nd reply was ‘not yet’. What does that mean?!? Then the service ignored me while am standing there waiting. After 1 min I asked again so if they minced the meat then i get a straight reply ‘No’.
Some of the staff were more busy talking to themselves then servicing their clients. Not all are bad but you get no help at times.

I live close by and it’s awesome to be able to walk to the store in about 2 minutes. NTUC is much cheaper than Cold Storage for produce, and it makes up the majority of my purchases. It’s always hit or miss when I stop in. I’m never sure what they’ll have in stock or be out of. I always count myself lucky if they’ve got the honey we use.
Service is pretty good. Don’t expect them to yield to customers while they stock the shelves. It’s every (wo)man for her/​himself! I’m a big fan of the self check out lane. Very few people seem to use it. Fresh produce without a bar tag can easily be weighed and priced right in the self check out area.

Open 24 hours. For that alone I think it deserves *almost* 5 stars.
Otherwise the grocery selection is a little limited (except the wine selection; extensive by comparison), the interior is rather cramped, and the service is surly depending on who is at the cash register.
But when the coffeeshops along Killiney road are closed, and you have just stumbled out of your midnight screening of Robocop looking for a snack, you know, this might just be a great place to find what you’re looking for.
