I can’t believe it took me over 5 years to finally try this place. My colleagues have been recommending it but every time we were there it was either too crowded(and we didn’t want to wait) or they were not ready. I believe they are ready to serve at 12pm or at least for the claypot dishes. My colleagues like the claypot rice. So I finally tried it after I read about the salted egg yolk pork ribs rice. There was a line and it was a 15 minutes wait for just two of us. The queue system: Inform the staff how many are in your party, you will be given a menu to browse. Place your order and wait. When a table is available, they will signal you over. So it is based on # of people in your group(all must be present before being seated) and the # of seats are freed up. So don’t be surprised if a party of two who is behind you(party of 4 or more) gets seated first because only a 2-seater is available. It is communal style with a few rows of combined tables. This is also a place to eat and go so that others can take your spot. The salted egg yolk pork rib rice was good but I was not very wowed by it. Maybe the sauce was a bit weak that day. The claypot chicken rice was excellent. Nicely charred rice which was doused with dark soy sauce, none of those white rice with drizzles of sauce over. The aroma of the sizzling rice and meat was mouth watering. The pot of rice included tender pieces of chicken, some slices of lup cheong(chinese sausage) and bits of salted fish. I found my favorite place for claypot rice now.

Everytime I visit, I would order a butter pork with rice and a hot plate tofu. Both are absolutely delicious and well-executed. Clay pot rice is hit or miss. A lot of people order it so it must be mostly good but the one time I ordered, the rice was cold and even the heat from the clay pot vessel wasn’t sufficient to warm it all up.

head to the 5th floor at far east plaza at lunchtime and you’ll probably notice a long line forming outside this place. most people are queuing for the zi char dishes, but there’s a separate line for the salted egg yolk pork ribs. you probably can’t go wrong with any of the other dishes(i hear the popcorn chicken is great) but definitely try out the pork ribs. for $ 6, you’ll get a plate of rice and these delectable pieces of fried pork smothered in a slightly sweet yet savory salted egg yolk sauce. you can even add on stuff — i paid $ 1.50 more for some greens. it’s not the cheapest(nor healthiest) hawker center dish but it’s really good. lines can get really long, so be prepared to wait.

i walk by this place all the time and never once did i pay attention to it because it’s always packed with people. Today, however my friend was like«we must eat here!» Amazingly despite the crowd, we got seated within 3 minutes upon arrival. i didn’t even get to see the menu. I was told what the signature dish was by my friend, then the auntie/server pointed at the girl next to me who has that dish and the ordering was finished with a nod of agreement between the 3 of us; it almost felt like i was finally let into a secret cult who’s membership everyone coveted. so what is the signature dish? It’s deep fried pork rib slices covered in salted egg yolk sauce on a piece of lettuce with a portion of rice. it was AMMMMaaAZZzzing! if you like salted egg crabs, you’ll like this one for sure. we devoured our meal in 15 mins and gave our table to the hungry ones in waiting.
