Under a block of HDB flats by the open public car park, one is surprised to a shop selling english traditional style fish and chips. It pops out like a sore eye from usual shops around. The place has quite a cosy feel with its fake brick wall and dim lighting. The menu is limited but has quite a range of drinks. So now one knows where to go for a drink after work without going to the coffee shop. Orders and pays at the counter. Cash and NETS is accepted here. There is no GST or service charge. Food will be served to you at your table. Remember to help yourself to the cutlery, sauces and iced water at the counter. Take note the bench area by the wall could be quite warm. Best take the table by the counter. Mushroom Soup($ 3.50) The croutons served on the soup are well flavoured with garlic butter. The soup is rich and thick with lots of minced mushrooms in it. However it tastes more on the salty side. Murphy’s Fish And Chips($ 16) English batter Fried Arrowtooth Fish, Chips, Lemon, Tarter Sauce The fish is not bad, being meaty and chunky. The fries is not crispy enough. The greens looks a bit sad. Remember to have it with malt vinegar or onion vinegar which is the traditional english way. I personally prefer the onion vinegar, which has a slightly sweeter taste. Overall food is not bad. There is no much crowd around. Maybe its weekday. Service is not bad with friendly staffs.

Back here again for more fish and chip goodness! This time I tried the normal batter. It was definitely more oily than the«non-oily» dish. I would say it’s less oily than the fish&co fried fish. The fish seemed fresh and didn’t smell fishy. The chips were good and the staff were kind enough to hand us an entire bottle of mayonnaise :) *thumbs up* For sides, we tried their crispy wings $ 10, 8 plump pieces of really crispy wings. They tasted slightly spicy and reminded me of McDonald’s mcWings but definitely crispier and fresher! I visited Murphy’s on a Monday 12pm and the lunch crowd came in around 1230pm. They had tons of desserts, and I really wanted to try their green tea mousse cake but I was too full. Next time I will plan to have desserts before the main course! Lol!
