Tonkotsu is good. Crab ramen is not what I expected. Hmmm but kids under 10 got free kids ramen, that’s sorta nice.

This review is for the Crab Stock Ramen Special. Although I thought a crab-stock ramen sounded intriguing, it just wasn’t to my liking. First of all, I didn’t read anywhere in the menu that the broth would be thick … like ‘sauce’ thick. It also had a bit of spiciness to it too that wasn’t described in the menu. The noodles were also too thick to my liking. Maybe I’ll try the regular tonkatsu or miso ramen next time. Plus would be the all-you-can-consume marinated bean sprouts to help temper the thick sauce.

Happened to be at Suntec City for an event today and the gf decided to come by after work to look for me. Decided to check out Keisuke since it was a cold day and it was a decision we didn’t regret! She decided to go for the more traditional Tonkotsu broth while I decided to be brave and try their Kani(crab. And no it’s not meant to be vulgar) Stock. What’s great about this restaurant is the options they give for your soup and noodles. You can either chose to have your soup lighter or stronger and the noodles firmer or softer, great for people who like their noodles soggy. When my dish came, off the bat, I thought it was going to be a great ramen. The eggs looked perfect and the broth looked beautifully rich and I wasn’t wrong. The first sip of my soup blew my mind away. The stock was rich, creamy and sweet with the distinctive taste of crab while the after taste brought more joy to the taste buds. For those who love the«essence» from the head of the crab, this dish is for you. Once you get past the sweetness and saltiness of the soup, that thick, «crabby» flavour that you get from eating the head of the crab slowly shines through. It was simply delightful! It was almost like having a crab bisque ramen. Next was the Tonkotsu. Again, the eggs looked perfect, so it showed the consistency there. Looks wise, the stock was definitely lighter as compared to mine, but a sip and it changed my mind completely. The soup was rich in flavour yet not heavy or oily in texture and the flavours just popped in your mouth. Evident of their boiling was the tiny scraps of fat that was floating on the surface(yes, this is not a low fat version by any means), which brought a bit of texture and tons of flavour to the dish. A lot of Tonkotsu soups tend to have an over powering aftertaste but this dish was perfect. You get that nice rich broth which tingles on your tongue once you’ve swallowed. Really delightful. Be warned though. If you’re not a fan or rich, overpowering soups, don’t even try the crab stock. As delicious as it was, it really did feel like drinking a giant bowl of bisque. Half way through the dish, I started to get overwhelmed by the flavours and I could feel the«jer-lat-ness kick in. Overall, this restaurant is worth a visit, however, with it being this good, there’s a reason why it didn’t get a 5* from me. The service crew were a little slow and tend to forget orders. During my 35 mins there, we saw the staff miss out 3 orders, including ours. Overall, still a great Ramen restaurant and a must try!
