This stall is literally a hidden gem. It’s hard to find(ok for someone who lives in Clementi and drives as far as Orchard) and those in the know have kept the local secret pretty well. Hotplate BBQ basically hits the a couple of important Singaporean hawker food points: its affordable, the seafood is fresh and of a good size and there’s a long«queue». I’m reasonably certain the stall is so leychey to get to and the wait time on weekends long enough that putting up this review will not bring too many people to the yard. My dear aunt was introduced to the aunty owner of Hotplate BBQ, which meant we could call ahead and reserve the items we wanted and the aunty remembers how we like our seafood cooked. The barbequed fish, prawns and flower crabs are excellent here, as is the special uhh cincalok type sauce that is made on request. The sambal chilli isn’t bad either. The sambal sotong, stingray and lady’s fingers are decent as well but didn’t knock my socks off like the 8 prawns I ate. Yes I ate alot and you’ll generally find yourself doing the same. When my aunt brought my cousin along for a 5 person meal they ordered 8 grilled fishes. Other than seafood, the stall sells 2 types of vegetables(lady’s fingers are one of them) and a very simple fried rice that does the job. Word is the coffee shop owner restricted the types of non-seafood dishes they could sell so that it wouldn’t compete directly with the other stalls. Almost everyone comes here for the BBQ seafood but as a spillover effect from waiting up to an hour on Fridays/Saturdays/PH’s, people order from the tze char and satay/grilled wings stalls. How much did our meal cost? We had 9 dishes(2 fishes, 1 plate of sotong, 1 plate of prawns, 1 large and 1 small plate of fried rice, 1 plate of lady’s fingers, 2 stingrays) for $ 90. Yes thank me and don’t tell your friends ok? The wait time is long enough as it is.
