Went past this road so often but never noticed it until a friend asked us to go there for dinner. Food is homely, affordable and tasty! They have specialty double boiled daily soup which unfortunately ran out even when we ordered at 7pm :(but it smelled really good. What we had, we enjoyed very much. The nonya fish had an addictive pineapple tangy sauce that was very good with rice. The other standout was the pork ribs. Both are Recommended ! And pls go early if you want to be seated and if you want soup!

Actually, my story begins elsewhere, in Chin Mee Chin Confectionery, when one uncle proclaimed there is only one other business as important as Chin Mee Chin! Where? I ask. Find NTUC Fairprice” he said, «the business on the left sells wine.» He paused, «the building next to THAT is where your looking for.» By following these directions I found Jin Wee Restaurant. Jin wee restaurant fits the oxymoron of being an unknown legend. Far too few among my generation are aware of its existence whilst it’s chefs are held in high regard by aunties and uncles across Singapore. In actuality the food quality is very high, something that can only be proven by eating there oneself. It is almost pointless to recommend a specific dish. However I enjoyed the Hor Fun dishes and certainly return to eat again. This is a place to go unbiased as to what to order. Simply be prepared to go and eat something.

Nondescript restaurant tucked in the middle of siglap. It is located right next to ntuc. Typical hainanese Tze char. Even the waitstaff speaks hainanese. Tried the hainanese pork chop and it is alright. The tomato gravy is good as it is sweet and tangy, but the pork chop is less crispy than expected. The sambal sweet potato leaves is much too spicy and we couldn’t finish it. The horfun was great. And a generous serving for one person for only $ 3.50. Lots of regulars who will order their beggar chicken. They have limited number that they smoked in a big urn in the front porch. When we got there, they have already ran out. Have to be back to try that.

Along East Coast Road is an old, decrepit coffeeshop called Jin Wee. This eatery looks retro amidst the trendy Siglap area, and it is a wonder how that many people can be packed into such a tiny space. Let your gastronomic adventures lead you here, where you can enjoy possibly the best Hainanese Pork Chops in Tomato Sauce, Stewed Pork Trotters, Stewed Pork Belly, and Fish Head Steamboat. All these dishes function as comfort food that warms the heart and belly. The place can get pretty packed, especially during mealtimes. There is also only one chef in the kitchen, who cooks one dish at a time to ensure freshness of the dishes. So make sure you get there early if you want to avoid the agonizing wait. It is said that Hainanese make good cooks, and after eating at Jin Wee Restaurant, I cannot help but agree.
