Hand made dessert, at what price now?! There is muah chee, and then there is this one. Pasar malams sometimes have spotty coverage — the crushed peanuts and sugar mix don’t go all the way around, and the muah chee is sometimes a little too dry, but not here, and not with these guys. How, you ask? There’s just something about the bounciness of each bite, and the even coat of nuts… and then there’s the black sesame version too, so bonus points for extra flavour. Why is this oh so good? Freshly made stuff almost always is, and for something that isn’t found just at any street corner, here’s something worth visiting a little corner of Bedok for.

It’s hard to imagine how a simple dessert like muah chee can take so much effort to prepare. But the muah chee here is definitely the best I’ve ever tasted. Introduced to it by my dear mother, I got to try out what she proclaimed to be the gold standard for muah chee when she came back from the market one day. Apparently, it’s the only stall she ever eats muah chee from and a bite told me all I needed to know. The texture of the muah chee itself is tender and toothsome and doesn’t stick to your teeth and is enveloped by a wonderful aroma. The peanuts are grainy, moist and add on to the overall fragrance. According to her, the muah chee is prepared fresh daily since it can’t be stored for long and the stall owner does it everyday to ensure freshness. Compared to other places hawking this traditional dessert, the price is slightly higher, but its really worth every cent you pay for. Even if its such a simple dessert.
