Hospoda is a «chill» microbrewery located in what I can best describe as a mini Chijmes. Hospoda specializes in Czech beer. Having spent almost two weeks in Prague for my MBA studies, I fell in love with Czech beer and was disheartened as soon as I left. Fortunately, Hospoda has helped fill this personal void. I can confirm that beer sold at Hospoda is as good as the motherland and its CRAFT, but of course nowhere near as cheap(beer is cheaper than water in the Czech Republic). One UnilocalER, I won’t name who, let’s just say REALLYREALLY liked the beer during our visit. :D Despite my fondness for Hospoda’s great tasting Czech Craft Beer and wonderful outdoor hangout for patrons, I limit my rating to that of 3-stars as the food options are extremely limited. It would be hard for me rate this on par with other microbreweries, like 1925 in Jalan Besar, that not only offers fantastic beer, but amazing food. Once Hospoda addresses the food situation, I would be more than willing to bump up my review. Based on my discussions with the owner, a young ambitious fellow, he is fully aware of the situation and is looking to revamp the place in the not so distant future. At least he’s got great beer to work with in order to make it happen. :-)

Hospoda is in a charming cul-de-sac(Albert Court) near Selegie. It exudes a real beer garden ambiance. One would tend to forget you’re right next door to little India. I prefer the beers to the actual Czech pilsner in Prague. On top of the great flavor profile, the light body suites the Singapore heat and humidity. That’s where the accolades end. Only half of the selection of an already abbreviated menu was available on a Sunday evening. We had a choice of under cooked french fries or meatballs. That, I can live with — the real offense was the pour size(large S$ 14 = 330ml). The glasses are so narrow, you might mistake them for champagne flute hybrids. I really wanted this places to be my neighborhood hangout, but you might go broke trying to catch a buzz here. Maybe we came here on the wrong night, but the lack of food was a downer. Happy hour is 30% off brews from 4 – 7. My suggestion would be to grab 1 – 2 drinks here then head off to a proper dinner and night out.
