In der Coffee Shop ist definitiv Von Kaffeeliebhabern gegründet worden. Bei der Bestellung eines Café Latte, Flat White oder was auch immer sonst das Herz begehrt wird man nicht enttäuscht. Wenige Sitzgelegenheiten, richtig gemütlich geht anders –aber darum geht es ja auch nicht immer. Ich kann mich noch daran erinnern, dass es zumindest Croissants oder pains au chocolat gibt.

Highlander is a no-​frills, minimalist coffee joint for true aficionadi. They do their research, source their coffee extremely well, and the baristas are excellent. In my opinion, the coffee here is the best in Singapore. Come to enjoy it with a friend and sit at one of the small tables. Don’t come here for non-​coffee drinks or for the food or to work or study.

Let a social coffee drinker offer some tips on Highlander:
a) they’re a coffee geek sort of place. Which means the coffee beans are freshly roasted, the beans and some bits of equipment are available for purchase should you feel like playing barista at home
b) they’re a coffee place. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID AND ORDER A NON-​COFFEE DRINK. Goodness me that smoothie was not smile-​inducing, let’s just say.
Out of the various coffee joints on the street I do feel that they do java best, though I will say that if you’re not looking for coffee head elsewhere!

Before indie cafes were cool in Singapore, there was Highlander. Notice how many indie cafes are sprouting around Outram and Tanjong Pagar? Cause the Godfather of coffee lives on Kampong Bahru road. None of those geeky snobbish pourover, just straight and honest espressos. Service is excellent as my barista remembers the drink I want even before I order it. What more can you ask?

Despite the Scottish moniker, Highlander Coffee is in no way Scottish. Instead, it’s a coffee shop, coffee retailer and coffee academy all rolled into one. Run by two brothers — Cedric and Phil — who are incredibly passionate about coffee, this place is one of the best places in Singapore to grab a great cup of coffee. The brothers, who trained in Sydney (but where else?), have trained quite a few baristas from all over the region, so it’s no surprise that the staff here take their coffee very seriously indeed.
The coffee bar is very nice and comfortable, though a little on the small side. Even though I was just drinking a flat white and reading through a couple of magazines one sunny weekday afternoon, the staff didn’t harrass me in any way to order more. Instead, they left me in peace.
It’s not that easy to get to, so if youre going to make the effort to come here, check out the directions on their website. Even a cab driver most likely wouldn’t be able to get you here as it’s easy to miss if you’re on the road. Still, given the quality of the coffee, it’s defintiely worth the trip if you’re a coffee-​lover!
