This is the halal version of Han’s. Unfortunately, most of the local dishes are not available at this outlet, so Western food only. It is what it is — a place to grab cheap food near the library.

If you want great American diner food at a reasonable price in Singapore, then this is where you come. Sandwiches, cakes, and more. I had the chocolate brownie cheesecake for the first time today and I’m bringing friends the next time! The seating area is al fresco and not fanciful but the food is delightfully affordable, unpretentious and comforting. Perfect for lunch and tea-time!

I love this place for the cool, airy, breezy vibe it gives me. It’s not just me but my friends have also commented that this place has a general uplifting and positive vibe. Dined here on one occasion 2 years back with my aunt and my impression of the place was excellent. Dropped by again 2 weeks ago for a coffee break and had one of their Chocolate Cakes — it was Heaven. Recommended place to chill-out and watch the world go by although there might be many students hogging tables on weekends to study for hours!

I’m not a fan of Hanis in the least. The prices are fairly cheap, but the«Western» food they propose has never appealed to me, and I’d much rather have a meal at the nearby Bras Basah coffee shop. A regular patron of the National Library, I have found myself desperate enough on several occasions to grab a quick bite at Hanis before going back in to continue with research. The coffee is pretty good and very cheap, so that’s quite a draw, but the quick bites that you can just grab and go are pitiful. I’ve tried their tuna sandwich, and I’m certain I could make something better at home. I have certainly learnt my lesson after those first couple of experiences, and now avoid Hanis as far as possible.

I love their all day set meals. I always opt for their dory fish set. It costs $ 9.80, comes with a dessert(usually a fruit), a choice between orange juice or ice lemon tea and a bowl of soup of the day. I have tried their avocado shake before and it’s thick, not at all watery and has the right consistency. Their earl grey latte though. was quite a let down. it was too watery and quite… bland. I tried that twice and each time, I regretted my choice. You can try their pasta as well, it’s quite good, especially their carbonara! I quite like their chicken carbonara and their sausage pasta. It’s quite generous the amount. It’s a great place to go to if you are on a budget($ 10-$ 15). though I feel that the cakes are worth a miss.

My friend and I didn’t want be late for a show at Drama Box, so we had an early dinner at the café. We got the sets; they included a main dish, a drink, half a slice honeydew, soup of the day and a paperthin slice of garlic bread. My prawn aglio oglio was mouth-watering — the pasta was springy, I got 5 medium-sized prawns and fresh bell peppers. My buddy’s Chicken Superburger was just as tasty. She topped up a few cents for a foccacia bun. Her order arrived with potato wedges and fresh garden vegetables. The sliced cakes looked tempting but a little pricey as compared to those from Polar Puffs. We were still famished and got the flaky curry puffs before going into the theater. What I love about Hanis Café & Bakery is that prices are reasonable for the portions they serve. No GST and service charge is another draw.

To get Halal bakery joints in Singapore can be quite challenging and I am glad I found Hanis. Hanis is conveniently located at the National Library. A good place to read a book and enjoy a cup of coffee. And maybe a slice of cake too. The scones is a must try. It’s really good and moist. Hanis serves all day set meal and my favourite is Black Pepper Chicken Chop. At just $ 11.80, you get the main course, soup, a hot or cold drink and a dessert to seal the meal. A good deal I must say! The Black Pepper Chicken Chop is cooked to perfection with some charred areas which really is my favourite part of it. If you don’t have the time to sit for a meal, get their Café Mocha which uses the aromatic Illy coffee and the Chicken Ham sandwich.
