Really? A Korean restaurant named Gangnam? I was already feeling a little unimpressed. Everyone and their mother’s heard that once-infectious-now-headache-inducing track too many times for their brain development, so you’re getting the idea that I wasn’t super keen. But… a quick scan of the food offerings in the mall didn’t throw up any other exciting options, so with a little hesitation, we rode up the escalators to… Gangnam Garden. I still can’t type that name without shuddering a little. Anyhow, we walked up to the door and it was empty, save one other table of Caucasians who looked like tourists. Surely it couldn’t be a good sign, when it’s 12.45pm, and it really should be hosting at least a couple of curious cats on weekday at lunchtime? I was too hungry to worry, and the lunch sets called my name(or maybe they spoke to my el cheapo wallet), so in we went. So… lunch sets. These went at $ 9.80+, and sounded pretty good, actually. Three appetisers, a choice of protein from beef, chicken or pork, and one from four mains including a veggie bibimbap and spicy tofu soup. The moment of truth — when food appeared on the table! The three appetisers were the little ones that you’d expect at K-BBQ places — kimchi, chye sim, and ikan bilis! Tasty enough, but we were hungry, so maybe our bellies overruled our sense of value. The mains arrived before the proteins, but we dived right in. My bibimbap could’ve used a little more sweet/spicy sauce, but it was a pretty good rendition and my friend has no complaints about her tofu soup. Proteins? Nothing to shout about, but they did complete the meal and that meant it was $ 9.80+ well spent! If you decide to have some K-BBQ, that’s available too, but since it’s the middle of the afternoon, and there really aren’t that many people(read none, at my visit at least) having this for lunch, I might give the meat a miss after it sits there for a day… Go lunch sets!
