The pratas and tehs here are the sort that inspire late night supper snack attacks. Take a break from chicken rice and Whampoa hawker and try their mee goreng with egg and roti john. Simple, tasty food at affordable prices. I’m a regular customer since it’s just a walk away.

This is my go to Prata place(I live down the road). Im a sucker for the Banana Egg Prata in particular. As I sit in my chair writing this review, I feel bad for telling the owner that I had gotten my change for my SGD50 payment when In fact I hadn’t after checking my wallet 10 mins later. The owner jokingly gave me a hard time when I asked for my change again, but of course he kindly gave it to me after I emptied my pockets. Haha. I guess I was enjoying my Prata so much that I had a brain freeze! Haha. I would give these guys five stars anyway for the food, but would give these guys six since they didn’t give me a hard time at all, rather they were so nice about it.

I’m a simple woman with simple tastes, and I come here for one thing only– plain roti prata and teh halia! I actually discovered this place during my tai tai days, when I was looking for a place to grab breakfast that wasn’t embarrassing.(Read: the Golden Arches.) I wanted to check out Three Wombats Café, but they weren’t going to be open ’til later. I figured I would walk down Kim Keat Road to see if there was anything else, and thanks to my curiousity, I found Fayidha! To be honest, I can’t explain the difference between plain pratas from other establishments, but just trust me when I say the prata and curry here is better than the one you get at the kopitiam at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Just sayin’. Prices are affordable and I love how they’re open 24 hours. They also have a TV that was showing a football game the last time I was there; not sure if it’s always sports or if they change it up every now and then. They were operational during Chinese New Year Eve, but I’m not sure about 1st and 2nd day. I would heed the advice of the other reviews which mention that they’re probably closed during Muslim holidays and other public holidays. Not a place to go out of your way for, but if you live in the Novena/Balestier area, it’s a decent establishment to frequent.

Fayidha is important in the Whampoa and Balestier neighbourhood because it’s the only 24hr prata place in the area, and that makes it a great end-of-the-night place for that one last stop before you head home. The shop occupies a nice large corner space and there are many tables all around the place, so you won’t have to wait very long in the rare event that it’s so crowded you can’t get a seat. The food isn’t mind-blowing but it’s decent for a prata place with the usual prata menu and also a nasi padang counter. The standard of the prata varies with the cook. That means if you come here often and are observant enough, you’ll learn to recognise and know if the cook manning the prata station has got the chops. But it’s never crap so you can be assured of having a satisfying prata. They also do murtabak if you’re really hungry. The fish curry that comes with your curry and murtabak is really good. The different gorengs – maggi, mee, beehoon, kuay tiao – are also decent. And if you want something really substantial, there’s a nasi padang counter But the absolute best thing about Fayidha is this: It’s got the right balance of sleepiness and bustle that makes it a great place to just sit in and chill and daze and watch people doing their thing and the traffic roll by. It’s rarely empty but it’s never overcrowded. You might have to stretch a bit to get the attention of the waiters but it’s not infuriating. I think that’s all you can really ask for in a good neighbourhood kopitiam. Oh, and since it’s an Indian-Muslim establishment, keep track of your religious occasions and public holidays and don’t go there searching for prata when they’re bound to be closed.

24 hours near Balestier, I’ve had many a late night after dinner snack here with my good mate who lives round the corner and a few breks too. The prata — kosong, egg and prata bomb are all good solid efforts. The kosong/plain has a nice flaky crisp bite to the outside with that soft fluffiness inside. I asked for less oil the latest visit this New Year’s Day and all my friends that I’d brought for the first time said the prata was yummy, good crisp and fluffy texture(and not like some places that are crispy but are more like deep fried with overused oil) and looked almost healthy as it had no excess oil! Friends also commented that the fish gravy they serve with was so savoury and nicely balanced with a tinge of the sour. The teh here I keep forgetting is just the right amount of sweetness. I need to remember not to order less sweet next time! Nice touch, all our teh tariks had clearly been genuinely tariked as they had a full layer of froth on. I’ve also had the prata bomb once at my good friend’s insistence. ok we shared and I really could have eaten one by myself. It was a perfect dessert for a late night chat(with more teh). I haven’t tried their other food. Really hits the spot for classic light textured prata with yummy fish gravy and a solid tasty teh tarik 24 hours!

This is the only 24 hour Indian Muslim food stall in Balestier; the rest of the late-night food options are predominated by Bak Kut Teh and other more Chinese-styled food options. However, whilst I do have a hankering for prata from time to time, this really isn’t the best place for it. Despite being open for 24 hours, they tend to run out of curries before the night is over. I love my fish curry, and egg prata with dhal just doesn’t taste the same! The maggie goreng is not bad, but it can sometimes be overcooked. In short, not a great place for prata after-hours, but for those living in Balestier, this is your only choice.
