Classic chicken wings with fried bee hoon. A real gem in the neighbourhood. Look out for the giant chicken wing signboard near the entrance of the restaurant. Closed Sundays.

Ok, so I’m getting a good buzz going from the 2 cold brews from Oriole off of their new Raven blend and I’m thinking… I need chicken wings. I’d heard about Eng Kee, but never actually put it in my mouth… ok, that came out all wrong. I’d never actually sampled the fried chicken wings at Eng Kee which shows like Makansutra had been telling me to try for quite some time now. This was, for me, the perfect time to try Eng Kee. I had an unexpectedly early day and so was already in a glorious mood, made all the more stratospheric by 2 cold brews from Oriole, and here I was anticipating wings. The wings were juicy although they were deep-fried and likely had been sitting under a heat lamp for a bit. The cartilaginous joint meat was crunchy and let go of the meat nicely. The sauce complimented the wings nicely, but was a tad sweet for my taste. I would’ve preferred more acid and more heat. Overall, a very pleasant experience. I’d come back again if I have another unexpected early day! Just how buzzed was I? I forgot to check in…

Good food is simple. Prepared by deep frying and with soy sauce seasoning, Eng Kee’s chicken wings have kept customers coming back for more than 10 years. The wings are crispy and well-seasoned, great when you eat them fresh and piping hot. Surprisingly, though they are deep fried. the wings are not oily. Eaten together with the tangy bee hoon that is replenished every few hours, this economy stall makes for the perfect afternoon snack or supper. The chilli sauce is made from a homemade recipe, which adds to the authenticity and traditional flavours served by Eng Kee. Opening hours: Mon-Sun12pm –10.30pm. Price of a typical set: Bee Hoon + 1 chicken wing + 1 veg, $ 2.50. Tel: 92339330(Catering)
