Once you get past the name, DIng Dong offers some excellent pan-SE Asian fare in the heart of An Siang Hill/Club Street. When you enter, you see the kitchen behind a glass wall and you go up the stairs to the dining room. It’s a bit noisy but fun and the food is better than we had expected! We started off with the Vietnamese Chicken Cole Slaw and pork ribs, and both were great for sharing. The«cole slaw» was more like a papaya salad, while the ribs were tasty fried morsels. I loved the crispy duck curry, as the skin was still quite crisp and the ocean trout was perfectly seared. But the star of the dinner was the beef cheek rendang, which was so soft and flavorful. I’ve had many versions with the dried beef which was tough and chewy, but this is definitely not the case here! As for drinks, they have a nice wine selection and their house Austrian wines paired very well with the food. This is great spot to bring visitors as well as for locals as there are plenty of bars to hit afterwards(or before).

Excellent fusion experience. Service is attentive and knowledgeable. Cocktails are inventive and tasty. We selected our own menu and the cold small plate highlights were the scallop ceviche and the spicy beef salad. For the hot small plates, be sure to try the carbon-battered prawn tempura with red curry marinade and soy wasabi marinade — better yet, get two of those. The wagyu beef char siew was very good for a large plate entrée. Best of all were the«textures of chocolate & kaya» and especially the light but very tasty«cula malacca with sago pudding & coconut». The popcorn garnish on the latter, plus the small merengues made the latter.

Had lunch here — they have $ 25++ 3 course lunch sets which is a pretty good deal. About 4 – 5 options each for appetizers, mains and desserts. Apps: 1) spicy pumpkin, prawn and coconut veloute — this was a really flavorful and tasty soup, especially if you like your food spicy. 2) burnt nasu — this was chargrilled egg plant with crab and shrimp on it, tasted like what it was, not much of a surprise here. Mains: 1) asam pedas salted barramundi — the fish was cooked perfectly with the skin crispy and meat tender. However, the flavor of this dish is pretty 1 dimensional, especially for an asam based dish. 2) duck curry — this was really well executed. Duck was meaty and goes really well with the curry which was really flavorful. I would recommend this dish! Desserts: 1) gula malacca — omg this was so yummy! Not too sweet, with the different texture of the sago pudding and coconut merengue kind of thing on top of it. I really liked this special dessert. 2) chocolate and kaya — I don’t remember much of this lol. But it was good as far as I recall. The desserts here are definitely the highlights of the meal. Will be back to try some of their special cocktails with local flavors like stylo milo and roti kaya. Overall 3.5 but I’m rounding down to 3 because I didn’t get much of the wow factor for the dishes. Tasty yes; wow this is amazing, not really.

This place has a great vibe, delicious cocktails and really good food. We were visiting on or honeymoon and did the«Feed Me» menu and highly reccomend that!

The hostess offered us either a high table, which I don’t like, or a low table in a hallway with a view of an alleyway that was not very appetizing. We ordered two overpriced cocktails before having the«Feed Me» menu. When they brought edamame for the first course I thought it was a joke. The food was bland and seemed like it was shooting too high.

I came here after half a bottle of Chardonnay, so my review might be slightly impaired. I have been known to be a nit-picky b**** even after a few drinks, so this review might be accurate after all. The kitchen is on the first floor, so climb the winding stairs up for the bar. We came here at 8pm, without a reservation, and the waitstaff seated the three of us down promptly. I do recommend making a reservation as the place had a few people coming in after us. They have an extensive and original cocktail list. I cannot, for the life of me, remember everything we had, but I had the only gin-based cocktail on the menu, which was delicious. Cocktails came promptly, and so did the lobster buns we ordered. Lobster buns came in a bamboo steamer, with the sort of bun you would see from a kong bak pao. There is a lobster tail inside each bun, with a sweet sauce(the kind you eat with char siew) smeared inside. It isn’t haute cuisine, but it tastes good in a munchies sort of way. Yum! Would I come back here again? Yes! I love how quaint this place is, and I am a sucker for original cocktails. I mean, I love my GNTs, but there is only so many times a girl can go to Oxwell & Co down the road…

Here for the first time with my girlfriend. The wait staff did not kept us both waiting for any longer than 10mins. We did not made any reservations though. Put us in our place and settled us down. Almost all the front staff were smiley and polite. Food was exciting and fun! Drinks were yummy and refreshing. Every dish has it’s own character and taste. Not too overpowering, everything falls into place pretty well. We love how the whole package is so quirky, yet… classy and quietly playful! :)

Ding Dong have the most excellent front of house staff, they were friendly, yet not intrusive; helpful and knowledgable about then menu and wines and above all seemed to enjoy their jobs — which honestly makes the atmosphere more fun… To the point we caught one of the waiters doing a little spin whilst serving up the food! The food we ordered came at a good pace, I was never left waiting nor feeling too rushed; the flavours were good and portion size allowed me to try many dishes; the quality of the food was high and good if not whole original.

Great Food — Great Staff I chose to visit here because it was in the Top Tables 2014 Singapore guide. Easy to book and was advised that I would be sitting on level 2 at a high table. On arrival, I was given a friendly welcome and escorted to my table. A great table overlooking the bar area. I always like to watch what is happening. On seating, it was time to take some photo’s and the waiter came across immediately and offered to take one of us. Tried one of their cocktails to begin with. Came out quickly and was a perfect way to start the night. Kingfish sashimi — the avocado cream made this dish. Scallop Cerviche — wrapped in a cabbage leaf made it easy to eat. Vietnamese Chicken Salad — spicy and flavoursome. Best salad I’ve ever had. Lamb Ribs — the sauce has a zing to it. Charcoal FIsh — The red curry adds flavour and the charcoal adds texture. Crema Singapoura — Dessert similar to a crème Catalina. All meals were great. For 2 people, this was a lot of food and we left looking forward to the walk back to the hotel. The mix of flavours in each of the dishes have been well selected. Yes, it is expensive but I got my monies worth. The food, drink and the service were awesome. The waiters clearly love their job as they always gave me a smile and would bop around the place. I am looking forward to coming back.

The good: Atmosphere(if you care about décor and music), location(if you’re into the«expat scene) and drinks(if you’re into getting drunk). Staff gets a gold star as I was attended to diligently and I even received a smile and a «welcome» before even stepping through the door. The 3 floor layout and spiral staircase provide a divider that births intimacy and warmth(sorry for that visual). The bad: I only have 1 bad thing to say about this place, but unfortunately it’s a big one(thus the 2 star rating): food was inconsistent and overpriced. Half the dishes were clever and tasty while the others didn’t impress and left me feeling like I was in a culinary test kitchen. Per staff recommendation I had two plates, plus rice, plus dessert(plus I sampled several other dishes) and I still left hungry… minus $ 120++ bucks. The ugly: I heard it’s the same people from the Tippling Club that crafted this place so my expectations were high. They just opened so I’m cutting them some slack and therefore returning in a few months to give it another try. This time with more money in my pocket to make sure I don’t leave hungry. Whether I leave disappointed is another story.
