Yummy authentic french crepes! Okay, perhaps I’m not entirely sure how authentic a Hokkaido scallop crêpe is, but the buckwheat galette certainly is. Plus, with the chef from Brittany, how could it be otherwise. Anyhow, 1pm on a Sunday for lunch, wasn’t too crowded(as opposed to the long line going out the door for Strictly Pancakes next door) — but once we’d set down I think the inside was almost full! It’s not a large place, certainly. They have an upstairs but maybe that’s open for dinner. Food also took a little while to come. Was eagerly anticipating the scallop galette! Menu reads«Hokkaido scallops flambeed with apple Calvados and leek fondue»($ 24.50, btw, up from what’s on their website). And true enough, it did not disappoint. Crunchy and crispy with maybe more than a hint of butter. mm. Three plump scallops sitting in the middle and filled with a light coating of leek fondue inside. Pretty yummy! It didn’t look like it’d be as filling as it actually was. Next — dessert. Crêpe suzette($ 19.90) — I was expecting the standard 3 small crepes with orange syrup drizzled over or something, but it was somewhat different. It came as a large crêpe with orange segments prettily arranged around the crowning glory — a scoop of vanilla/mango ice cream(I really would’ve just preferred plain mango, but oh well.). And the lady boss(Sun sun, this I found from googling) came out with a little pitcher of Grand Marnier and proceeded to light it on fire. Fun! Unfortunately, I think there was a bit too much alcohol and not enough flame, I could still taste quite a bit of the rather bitter liqueur while enjoying the rest of the crêpe. Oh, there was also some salted caramel drizzled on the crêpe! Mm :) This one was made from wheat flour and had a rather different texture from the galette(mostly, softer, although some parts were crisp), but still very thin and delicious! Lovely place! Would love to come back for more :)

Had the Forestiere and the galette with cider-poached plums, on separate visits. Both were extremely filling. I liked the one with cider-poached plums more, not something you see everywhere. The apple cider is also worth a try.

Nice little place tucked away at Prinsep Street. It is pretty quiet and cosy. There aren’t many seats indoors so it may get pretty crowded. There is a 2nd level seating as well but it was closed to diners when i went. The décor reflects the coastal nature of Brittany with all the fishing nets and fake seafood on the walls. It’s like dining in someone’s home. You see little kids’ art pieces pasted on the walls, a bar counter that separates the dining space from the kitchen, uncoordinated mix of furniture, absolutely homey. Outdoor seating– not many tables as well. We ordered the duck rillette for appetizers. If you are concerned about your cholesterol level, don’t have this dish. A little more on the preparation of this dish– the meat is cubed or chopped, salted heavily and cooked slowly in fat until it is tender enough to be easily shredded, and then cooled with enough of the fat to form a paste. Spread that buttery mix on the toasted bread and send it right into your mouth. For mains, we had the crowd pleasers– complete Forestiere(i think i ordered this or perhaps the one without the egg) and Saint Caradec. The Complete Forestiere is a crêpe with ham, mushroom and a sunny side up egg in the middle. This is quite the perfect breakfast/brunch dish. Texture of a pancake with all my savory sides= yums. The crêpe is wafer thin, extremely crispy but slightly spongey in the middle. I think the texture of the dish is perfect– there’s some crunch which is complemented by the moisture of the egg yolk. S had the Saint-Caradec which has scallops flambéed with Calvados and served with a creamy leeks fondue. It was kinda bitter to me, maybe it’s the leeks or something. Love the plump and fresh scallops which were well seared and very juicy but they do look kinda pathetic sitting on such a huge crêpe. To state the obvious, i did not finish my crêpe and neither did S. They were surprisingly very filling. I think i ate less than half of mine so we doggy bagged(for the dog. :P Couldn’t stomach any more crêpe after brunch). Because we were so stuffed, there wasn’t any space left for desserts. Heard the flambéed crêpe Suzette is a good choice for a dessert crêpe so maybe next time round(if i do not over order again). S thought that it is kinda pricey for crêpes, the mains are about S$ 20++. Then again that’s the price you have to pay for authentic food in Sg. Another authentic French crêperie would be Entre-Nous Crêperie at Seah Street. Should give it a try some day.

Creperie des Arts serves up french style grill and crepes. It’s an unassuming little place at Prinsep right next to Strictly Pancakes — we sat at a table outside and started our meal with Duck rillettes(that’s a pâté like spread) and toasted bread. The rillettes were really yummy, and while the bread is a little small in size, it was very good and you can ask for more. Great way to start the meal. We shared 2 crepes between 4 girls — you would think that would be too little, but you would be wrong; we were totally stuffed after that with no room for dessert! We had a Parma Ham one with cheese and a sunny side egg, and one with Mushroom and cheese. The crepes are dark brown buckwheat and really thin, but surprisingly filling. Or perhaps it was the cider filling us up — they serve up big bottles of cider poured into ceramic tea cups, which makes for a rather strange drinking experience. I liked the sweeter cider compared to the drier one. Overall a nice place to eat. Not exactly the cheapest but very good food and nice place to hang out casually with your friends. Don’t be too greedy and share your crepes because they’re really quite deceivingly filling!
