This is a rather cramped and a bit dated location. I had a disappointing experience the other day. I was in the neighborhood for some banking during my lunch break, and decided to swing by and pick up a salad. Cold Storage salads are already a bit expensive, but this particular location is very frugal on the portions they provide. Then when you are ordering additional items, at a charge, they pretty much shout at you that it will cost more. Luckily another staff member calmed the situation down, but it really was a disappointing experience.

A very convenient(24-hours!) branch of Cold Storage supermarket. Unfortunately due to the Holland Village demographic and perhaps the limited space, the selection isn’t as wide and wholesome as Cold Storage Jelita for those stocking up for healthful home-cooked meals. There’s only 1 not-so-tasty brand of wholewheat pasta here, while Jelita has 3 brands, 2 of which are decent. We couldn’t find quick cooking baby oats(only steel-cut oats). There’s tomato sauce and ketchup but not paste. The fruit selection is good, but the vegetables aren’t the freshest. There sure are plenty of snacks, candies and alcohols though! There’s also a small Swissbake section that’ll cover breads and those last-minute birthday cakes.

I truelly hate this place. I hate most super markets but this one ducks. They are often out of many things and when they have it you can look forward to high prices and long questions. Lucky the location is good and it’s open 24 hours.

The fresh food people have recently gotten renovated and it is looking really clean and bright inside. This place is incredibly well staffed for a place that is opened 24⁄7. Some special sections of this supermarket include, rotisserie, antipasti, cheese, fresh seafood etc. Perhaps you may find some of these options in other Cold Storage’s elsewhere, but this place is pretty damn comprehensive. Good/Bad Experiences include: 1. being here at 3am when my ex-girlfriend was hungry. 2. freaking out at 7am because there was no bacon at home. 3. buying alcohol for a house party while being intoxicated. I love this place.

This Cold Storage has really changed a lot… I used to come here a lot when I was young. Young like as in, before my teens. I remember there was always this aunty that sold kueh tutu at the front, and one of those SPCA donation statues(the girl, not the dog, I know there’re a few types). The layout has defnitely changed, and everyone that mentioned narrow aisles is definitely right. I’d say however, to go after midnight. There’s almost never a queue and the narrow aisles don’t matter. The selection’s not amazing, as Cold Storages go, but a friend told me that you’d do much better to go to Jelita down the road. It’s bigger, also 24 hours(apparently) and you can find free parking along the street.

This outlet of Cold Storage is a little claustrophobic, perhaps I’m too used to the big and high ceiling Marketplace in Fusionopolis that when I come here it feels as if the building’s pressing onto Cold Storage. The insides are cramped too. When you enter, the bread at Swissbake welcomes you, but it’s a tiny outlet too. Be careful not to let your bags or umbrellas swipe at the displays. This branch stocks quite an eclectic variety of household items. There was Bragg apple cider which I’d usually find in health stores, and lots of vinegar and condiments. It’s a good place if you’re looking for ingredients to make a pasta dinner.

On the whole, Cold Storage isn’t a better supermarket than FairPrice for the simple fact that they charge a higher price for almost every single item. But the Cold Storage at Holland Village still remains popular among housewives, expats and students in the area. I think the reason for that is they carry certain premium brands and items that you may not be able to find at a FairPrice supermarket, hence FairPrice doled out their Finest supermarkets that charge similar prices and they also have a wider range of imported goods not normally found in their regular supermarkets. I do like this Cold Storage for its location because I pass through the area quite often. I also like any business that is open any hour of the night. Sometimes all you need is a drink or a snack so the compact size of this supermarket makes it easy to zip in and out. However, the narrow aisles here make it hard to navigate when crowded so those with a trolley and a packed grocery list may find themselves frustrated, especially in the evenings.

Cold storage is an OK supermarket, but certainly not any better than any fairprice finest or regular fairprice actually. In holland village you don’t really have a choice though and you are forced to do your groceries here if you live nearby. Big advantage is that is open 24⁄7. It annoys me that Cold storage tries to be an supermarket which is known for very high quality and fresh products, while in actual fact it isn’t. They often run out of products and they try to sell you lot’s of products which is just overcrowding the supermarket and leaving not much space to walk past. The queues at this cold storage are always pretty long and the fast queue is everything but fast.

The best thing about Cold Storage at Holland Village is that it’s one of the most central supermarkets that’ open 24⁄7. It’s got a very adequate deli and a good selection of produce, catering both to local tastes as well as the expatriate community in the area. Parking is easy to find in the basement of Holland Shopping Centre.
