Our hotel is nearby and within walking distance to two of the biggest food courts that I have ever seen. Back at home where we live, no food court that is organize like these food courts. One is Chinatown Complex and the other is Maxwell Centre. My opinion is depending on the type of food you like or your favorite, they are all good. You could have a three course dinner at any of the food courts as mentioned above. We were there in October, 2015 to early November, 2015. It’s a good thing there’s air conditioning because the weather is humid and warm. On our last night, we had steamed fish head at the Chinatown Complex. At Maxwell, we had steamed white chicken and rice previously. We heard they are both famous in Singapore. We were not disappointed. We also have breakfast at Maxwell with coffee, toasts, and porridge. Give yourself some time because either one of these food courts is going to make you spend some time walking around and just looking for what they have.

This place is off the hook. Tons of hawker stalls at great prices. There’s also a food court here too.

Not to be confused with the very touristy section of Smith Street, there are lots of food stalls on the second floor of the Chinatown complex, the huge building across from the Buddha Tooth Relic temple. Very cheap hawker food with local classics as well as Hong Kong style dim sum. Try the peanut pancakes and the popiah, finish it off with some«carrot cake». I find this hawker centre much less touristy and cheaper than others. It also feels less hectic and overcrowded.

I was shocked beyond belief when my mum brought me up above the stalls and wet markets recently for dinner — there is SOMUCHGOODFOOD here! Huge, huge fan of the Tanjong Katong Dried Beef Noodles. They have a branch in Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre as well — the gravy is thick and rich, the servings of beef, large and generous, and the stock is so delicious. I could eat it anytime of the day! Another gem we found here was the Organic Soya Bean Milk & Beancurd(just adjacent to the numerous ‘pudding’ tau huey that you see everywhere nowadays). Silky smooth(without the ‘pudding’ texture and being too sweet), organic, and hot. That’s how Tau Huey should be. Will definitely be back for the Satay Bee Hoon(which is also famous in its own right) and the Xiao Long Bao($ 5 for a basket of 10) we had wasn’t too bad. Love this place to bits and sad I didn’t discover it earlier!

This is a fantastic place for hawker food; you can find virtually every single local delicacy here! Two of my all-time favourite stalls are the claypot rice tucked away in a corner next to the Good Beer Company, and a dessert stall whose name eludes me at the moment. It’s run by a very old but cheery uncle. Newcomers might want to beware of wandering too far from your table. The place is rather difficult to navigate for newbies with all its nooks and crannies. Plus, some stalls might be unwilling to deliver their food all the way to the other side of the hawker centre.

Wet Market and Hawker food galore. Chinatown has too much good food and Chinatown complex is home to some of these traditional Asian foods that have been here since before Singapore got it’s independence. The ground floor is home to Singapore style ‘mom and pop’ styled stalls that sell fabrics, repair watches, the latest in auntie wear, everyday home knick knacks and traditional chinese wedding stickers/paper cut outs. The second floor is the massive hawker centre, home to some of the best of local food. The basement is a wet market, the place to get your fresh vegetables, meats and spices. Go in the morning, yea? The multistorey parking is $ 1 per half hour during office hours.
