The now-defunct function rooms at level 1 has been refurbished to house the first CHI Spa in Singapore. Nestled next to the new Waterfall café at Garden Wing, Shangri-La Singapore, the new spa parlour has 9 spa rooms with 3 couple suites, the rest are individual treatment rooms. Nice tropical feel with a natural charm, one that looks entirely different from The Remede Spa if you are familiar. Perhaps I am used to the facilities at Remede Spa, I love the bespoke experiences especially that exclusive wet lounge area that comes with separate steam chambers, sauna and a mid-sized hydro-massage pool. But here, at Chi Spa, there’s only ONE miserable steam bath facility, worst, it is incorporated with one of the shower room! Very inadequate in comparison. But there are some luxurious amenities found in the shower rooms and a WC to use, while Remede has two. The front desk service is good, the ladies are well-mannered and knowledgeable. I had my first Iced ginger tea experience in a spa establishment! Always, I would ask for either a HOT chamomile pot or go with a champagne flute filled with bubbles after the spa service, never a COLD. It was quite uncommon to serve cold beverages but I guess it’s something new here. of course, you may ask for a hot tea instead. And, it seems they like to serve tea prior to treatments not after, while you relax in the waiting area. The therapist is quite professional, polite and somewhat good in skills with the exception that I find her trying too hard to get closed to her guests, to spark off some chemistry during the first encounter. Other than, the spa service was not too bad. Choose one from the Chi Signature Massage that range from $ 50-$ 220 for single and $ 90-$ 400 for a couple. Or you may want to splurge on some CHI Journeys treatments that could range from $ 260-$ 800(single/couple). What sets them apart from Remede is, they have some Wellness selections like Tui Na, Thai Therapy, Balinese & Swedish massage. It’s still worth trying out at Chi Spa. I hope to make a return. But due to the fact that they do not provide any separate lounges for greater experiences, I doubt I will be very much attracted to it and so I will continue to show great loyalty to the one I enjoyed most — if you can guess which one by now =) Some side notes: Under the same property, Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa is also offering the Rasa Spa, providing spa collections that range from its signature suite collection for body/foot scrubs, antioxidant wraps, facial therapies etc. Heads up: If you enjoy staying at Shangri-La/Traders chain of hotels, I was told that a newer Traders Orchard Gateway hotel will be ready in Q2, 2014. It will be located near 313@Somerset — a LEISURE establishment, other than the one at Cuscaden Road, which caters to business travellers. Golden Circle members can look forward to chalk up their GC points at the new hotel.
