CAD(Coffee, Art and Design) is cute and pleasant café on a corner on the lively Haji Lane in the Arab District. It is sort of an all day sort of place that during day time serves pretty good coffee and in the evenings some nice craft beers and other beverages. There is also food on offer but I have actually never sampled any of it. I have however tried the coffee and it is pretty good. They use beans from Toby’s Estate and can make good use of it as well. I have been happy but not ecstatic by the quality. It is pleasant to sit and relax and enjoy it here and they do have free wifi. In the evenings they serve pretty decent craft beers as well so a nice place to hang out at. I can agree that service is a bit slow, even when it is not very busy but it is at least friendly. Overall the nice atmosphere and good beverages options are the reasons to come here.

A very hip café on Haji Lane. I love love love the fact that they played Wiz Khalifa the whole time I was there! There is indoor and outdoor seating, and it’s quite small, but more than makes up for it in décor. The espresso chart on the wall can never not be helpful, and they have an array of beers to show you what they offer! They also have complimentary water with lemon on a small table towards the back. Just ask for the wifi password, the girl behind the counter was nice! I didn’t order any food, but the man we shared a table with seemed to be enjoying his bagel and espresso.

Stopped in for a cocktail on the way out to dinner and ordered a Cosmopolitan… pretty easy drink to make, but this one just tasted sweet and like it was made from a mixer, rather than fresh… I’m sure it wasn’t, but it didn’t taste very good at all… Great street location and for watching the world go by, but the cocktails just aren’t very good :-(

Seems like a nice place but the fare seemed average. I didn’t get a chance to interrogate my friends re: their sandwiches but they didn’t seem overwhelmed. I tried to order a smoked salmon bagel but they had run out of cream cheese with barely any customers on a lazy Wednesday! They had also run out of coleslaw for my lunch mate. Seems like a decent place but nowhere I would run back to(especially given the prices — $ 12 for a relatively small sandwich).

Soulful tunes, a kitschy interior and friendly staff. Coming here on a rainy day with a book would not go amiss. Most people do takeaway coffee — but it’s worth having a sit down and soaking in the atmosphere of this place! Coffee is great, food not so. Still, one of the better coffee experiences in Singapore so props for that! Beans are Toby Estate so maybe I’m biased ;)

As visitors to Singapore we headed to Arab st and Haji lane based on suggestions from friends. We were recommended another café for coffee but as it was closed so we thought we would give CAD a go based on the smell of freshly ground beans and it being one if the few cafés open at 10am. The great news is we weren’t disappointed. A small space with only a few tables in and out, it has a beautiful, funky ambiance with cool artwork, and bold colours mixed with natural materials. A blend of funk/jazz style music only added to the feel that we’d struck upon a gem. My soy latte was well flavored, slightly on the sweet side but I’ll take that when having soy when traveling. The sweetness didn’t ruin the nice rounded bold coffee flavour I was seeking. I also had a Banh Mi Roll which was fabulously hot with chilli and salty and herby in the right ways. Served on a chewy French roll it was more than enough for one person. The complementary water is flavored with fresh lemon to make it extra refreshing and you only have to ask to get the password for free wifi. I found the service really friendly, generous and prompt without being rushed. Good coffee should take a few minutes to make in my opinion and the food was served in a timely manner which reflected it being freshly made. Located amongst the cool street art it was a pity to see so many tourists stopping for photos but not patronizing this great little café. At least the locals know it’s a good thing as there was a steady stream getting takeaway as we sat and enjoyed our breakfast.

Lovely polite staff. Flavored water. Free WiFi if you ask for the password. Coffee is very well balanced, albeit slightly on the weaker side(easily fixed with a double shot). Cool location. A shame so many people seem to be stopping to take photos and leave without trying the coffee and food.

Excellent food and coffee. Service is leisurely(read slow in getting food on the table) so don’t go there if you’re in a rush. But bring a book and enjoy people watching. They make their food and drinks with lots of love! Love it and will be back.

On a corner of Haji Lane, you’ll find CAD Coffee(stands for coffee, art and design). A a tiny little place with a recognizable mural along the outside. I went during the middle of a weekday, so wasn’t too busy. The espresso field guide behind the counter was helpful in seeing the variety they can craft and what comprises it. Went with a classic mocha. Though I was a bit frustrated with the time it took to get to me, the second I took a sip my eyes widened. It had a rich, deep taste that contends among the best mochas I’ve had. The quality of the coffee is quite evident and the leaf design on top was near perfect. Even on a hot day, this is a place that is worth venturing back to.

A cute little corner café on haji line, unfortunately cad café really needs to work on its execution. I counted 15 customers(it only has 6 tables), 4 staff, yet it took 15 mins for a long black, 30 mins for a simple banh mi, and over 45 mins for a sandwich… By which stage we decided to leave as our sandwich hasn’t even been started yet(I asked the staff). There was simply no excuse for the slowness — food should be prepped, the menu is not extensive(and simple offerings), the staff/customer ratio was high… And no foresight to tell us there would be a lengthy wait. I had to ask and even then do not understand why half of our order would be delivered and the other forgotten… So we left. And walked around the corner to Maison Ikoku. A completely different feel, a well oiled machine, fast strong coffees, good tunes and a much more enjoyable experience. The banh mi was simple but effective, the juice not bad, the coffee weak, however I will not be back because the experience left a sour taste over powering everything else :-(
