POWERTOTHEPEOPLE!!! /pause /edit PO-PO-PO-POWER to the ALMIGHTYNASILEMAK and all those who REVEL in it. Still having withdrawals from the Wok & Barrel UYE and craving Nasi Lemak while having VERY little desire to travel, I made my way to the closest decent Nasi Lemak stall that I know of in the area(thanks to Hafiza A.‘s prior review) and eagerly joined the queue of 15+ people at 1830 hrs. I HATE long queues… but those who know of the original Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak’s infamously long queues at midnight would remember standing behind at least 30 – 40 people.(Anyone ever witnessed the queue that was long enough to start from the other side of the hawker centre? ME!!! I finished my large bottle of smooth-juice before I got halfway…) But… I also knew well that these particular lines move FAST… or so I *thought*… The line moved so fast that within 3 minutes I was second-in-line to order… and then lovely auntie in front of me says, «Twenty Nasi Lemak Ayam»… #*$%(^(*&#*$&*…seriously??? AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH… 10 minutes later with one of the stall aunties having hand cramps… I got to order the same thing and eagerly ran off to find a bench to feast on.(Yes…it’s to-go — or take-out — as you all call it.) 5 minutes of frantic search yielded me a bench with a workable table to dine on. Eagerly opened the little packet… and dove right in after the snapshot. RICE…fragrant just as I remembered it. FRIEDCHICKENWING… sweet and sexy just as I remembered it. SAMBAL…hot and tongue-destructive-for-non-spicy-eaters like me… just as I remembered it. FRIEDEGG… sloppy…but whatever… it’s all about the rice and chili! IKAN-BILIS…crunchy and salty… just as I remembered it. Yep, this is my Nasi Lemak go to place in Woodlands for as long as I’m staying here. /Harlem-Shake Unilocal 100: 16⁄100

I am certain many residents in the north(i.e. myself) rejoiced when Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak opened a new branch in the basement of Causeway Point late last year. Now we don’t need to travel far to satisfy our cravings for this popular local dish! Just like the parent stall in the west, business is always brisk and many items are gone long before the day ends. You know if something’s good if there’s always a snaking queue. Who says food from the same company tastes different when it’s prepared at different stalls? The nasi lemak is as good as it gets — the rice is fluffy and flavourful enough to be eaten alone and comes accompanied with a very crispy chicken wing, ikan bilis and a couple of slices of cucumber. It’s a simple meal, but a very satisfying one. There’s even lontong and nasi padang on the menu, but I usually stick to their signature dish.
