Ordered catering for 40 person during lunch hour on a weekend. This Tze Char place is a family owned business. The caterers came here much earlier than the time we agreed on and were willing to wait quite awhile before they can set up the foods. The catering service includes buffet style racks(better presentation than just dishes covered in aluminum foils. After discussions, I ordered these dishes and beverage from the $ 12 per pax menu: 1) Fried noodles — pretty flavorful and the noodles are chewy. 2) Claypot tofu — nice combination of vegetables and tofu here. The sauce was not too salty either. 3) Lemon chicken — chicken was tender and lightly battered on the outside. The sauce on the side made it citrusy. 4) Sweet and sour fish fillets — this dish was quite a hit among the others. 5) Sotong balls — glad to choose this dish too. The sotong balls were chewy. 6) Curry vegetables — great mix of vegetables and it wasn’t too spicy. 7) Homemade barley — a little too thick(probably because it was just chilled not iced). Others commented that it wasn’t too sweet either. Besides that, the catering service here also provided disposable cups, cutleries and serving plates. Overall, it was a good choice to order from here as the quality of the dishes surpassed my expectation and it was affordable :)

It’s official. Wilson has left the building. The passage of an era. Foods still good but in my honest opinion not as good as it used to be. Maybe after walking the Earth like Kane Kung Fu, Wilson will come back to Forture’s kitchens with more wok fu!

One of the most disappointing meals for me on this most recent trip. Complete waste of time and stomach space. They ran out of crab at 6p on a Sunday. Completely out. What? Service was short and harried(I get that this is a zhi char place). I ordered a hor fun and got a char kway teow looking dish w/o the wok fired taste. Completely disappointing. I don’t recommend this place to anyone at all. Pass.

If you’re thinking that the name on the title is misspelled, you’d be interested to know that the name of this restaurant is really spelled ‘forture’ and not fortune. Food here is excellent, albeit a little pricey. Their fish and chilli crabs here are very, very well done, and their coffee pork ribs are really good too(although they might be a little sweet for some) The service is, however, sorely lacking as the wait staff were often not around to attend to the tables(we sat indoors) and the big guy(i’m guessing he’s the boss) showed absolutely no interest in taking our orders, let alone giving a smile. Parking here might be a little difficult on weekends, and the noise level might be pretty loud especially if you’re sitting indoors, but if you’re coming here simply for the food, then definitely give this place a try.

The tze char here is pretty good. In particular, the herbal chicken and chilli crab are popular favourites. Personally, I usually order the individual dishes like sambal fried rice and deer meat with rice when I go. However, with the multitude of tze char places around the island. I wouldn’t say that Forture is a must go. Particularly problematic is the slow service. When the restaurant gets crowded, the food can take even upwards of 30 minutes to come. I think I once waited for 45 minutes! So I would only go to Forture out of convenience and during off peak hours.

Let’s not kid ourselves. We we should just a place based on what we go there for, and at Forture, we’re looking for good value food, of which I’m convinced. I’ve come here so many times now for a combination of factors: 1) convenience(it’s just along a main road and a minute from a bus stop) 2) You can get a decent meal that will fill you at affordable prices(less than $ 7) 3) There is such a wide range of food and a very accommodating setting with a decent amount of comfortable seating space, considering that this is basically an extension of an eating house — so it’s perfect for a casual get together in a big group. Among my favourite things to order are deer meat with rice(I still don’t know if it’s real deer meat or not, but it tastes good, so I can’t quite care less), lor mee, salted fish fried rice, fried vermicelli, and beef hor fun. You’ll even be able to add a portion of deer meat to each order for $ 1(this used to be the case, but I haven’t done this in my past few visits so I can’t quite verify this fact anymore), though the additional deer meat tends to turn out quite try, a shade of the tender slices you’ll get when ordered as a main dish. I’ve also ordered some of the main cze char dishes before, including the claypot bringjal and their famous emperor chicken. The former was a bit too starchy for my liking, and not quite as sweet as I was thinking it could be. The emporer chicken was good — tender and juicy of course with a nice soupy broth. Nothing of the wonderful sort you will find across the causeway, but good enough for me.

Popular seafood restaurant with expats and locals that also has an extensive menu of e.g. tofu specialties, deer, chicken and the like. Specialty of braised chicken. Fish, abalone, crab and lobster dishes go by the price of the day. The kitchen is not much to look at, and the terrace looks on the cheap side with its plastic chairs, but the quality is surprisingly good and that for very acceptable prices. Reservations advised — certainly during the weekend and for groups.
