I have a confession to make. This wasn’t my first time here. In fact, if you include the takeaway dinner, it’s actually my 3rd. I had intended to keep this place a secret, away from other Unilocalers, but after the excellent meal I just had, I couldn’t keep it in anymore, I just had to blab it out and reveal all! Now, I’ve never actually spent any extended period of time in Korea, my only time in Seoul was a business trip for just 2 days, so I can’t claim to be a Korean cuisine expert. But I did live in Melbourne and the Bay Area for a while(and have sampled the wonders available in both Oakland and Sunnyvale), and so I have lived amongst the Korean diaspora and have sampled authentic Korean diaspora food. My wife and I were on a quest to find good soondubu here in Singapore, and had mostly been(very) disappointed by the recommendations we received so far. Until we found this place. You know you’ve come to the right place when all the customers are speaking Korean, and the owner/cook/chef lady only speaks Korean and nothing else. I should end it off here, already ’nuff said. But then can I really do that without mentioning the food at all? The pictures I’ve put up should tell the story, you must have the mixed grill. You must have the sweet and sour chicken(it’s probably called something else, I can’t read Korean). But I do also have to mention the 2 dishes that disappeared so quickly before I could take a picture, that’s how good they were. We also had the jyajaengmyun, which is way better than the one my bro made me drive all the way for in Sunnyvale, and we had the Military Stew, which is an excellent spicy soup with ham, sausages, bacon, cabbage, rice cake and noodles. I can just imagine the stories behind this stew, probably soldiers gathering over a pot on a cold, wintery day, throwing whatever they had in, and voila! This place suffers from the lack of service staff problem that most other small joints in Singapore suffer from, but the goodness of the food, and the friendliness of the Korean owner lady, more than make up for it. Please enjoy the food there, but please share it only with your bestest of friends. I’ve never had to wait for a table there, I’d be loath to find out if I ever have to, that this post was what caused it.
